This is one of the reasons why I have Chris a bichon frise pupper for an AU. Kid is the type who would use himself as a human shield for a doggo.

Also, even before Chris freaked out and shut off the portal, there's a scene where he asks Sonic if he wants to go back to his world, and this is his response.

This doesn't look like the attitude of someone being "kidnapped".

This is why I will immediately not take whatever argument a fan has seriously the moment they pull the stupid fucking "He kidnapped Sawnic!!!!" card. Like or dislike something, if you have to outright lie in order to prove an argument, than you don't have one.

And these same "fans" get all pissy when they're hit with the "You didn't watch the show." accusation, and wonder why they get it. But I forgot how much of a spotless track record the Sonic fandom has when it comes to deliberate mischaracterizing or lying about things.

This is also what I mean when I say that much of the fandom tends to infantilize Sonic: He's just a silly billy dumb little baby boi who's too naive to make choices and fully understand them, especially when it involves him actually being in character by being nice or supportive to one they don't like.

Don't know how else anyone could genuinely believe bullshit like how this could feel threatened or be overpowered by a squishy 12 year old human.

People keep calling Chris selfish and horrible for keeping Sonic from going back home, and endangering his world.

Then what does that make Sonic?

Sonic knew the risk of not going back, and yet he stayed. And we know he had the Chaos Emeralds with him. So Sonic could have left whenever he wanted. Not like fighting a 12 year old is hard. Not only that, but Sonic never tried to talk Chris out of this runaway plan. Sonic chose to do nothing.

Even Chris questions this.

Sonic didn't get mad. He didn't speak up. He went along willingly, and even tried to help. When Chris finally decides to talk, so does Sonic. "Friendship is free will." Yes, Sonic said he stayed because Chris saved him, but also because Chris is his friend.

Sonic doesn't care where he is, as long as he can run free. It's only after this that Chris realizes that Sonic staying with him means that the blue hedgehog can't run around as much as he wants. That keeping him here limits Sonic's own freedom, because Chris can't keep up. And it's clear that Sonic didn't mean to make Chris see it like that.

I'm not hating on either of them. I like them both. Sonic could have had this talk with Chris earlier or did anything. But he chose being a friend over the fate of the world.

Amy suddenly having the ability of flight/levitation, and Chris seeming to be the only one who really notices it, still makes me come back to this panel every once in a while.

Either his mom or dad was related in a way and they changed their last names or something

All of the dialog variations you shown here pretty much all mean the same things but are worded differently.

But I'm gonna be honest, I think the original dialog in the OG JP dub is still better than the 4Kids and rewritten ones, particularly with the ep.26 example. The completely rewritten version would not only make the scene feel redundant- it's outright shown that he broke out of his restraints because he saw Sonic getting the shit kicked out of him after all- but by making into cookie cutter friendship is magic type dialog, it misses the point how it's also meant to show Chris' attachment issues that have been boiling under the surface over the the first two seasons. It makes the scene less interesting by trying to appease people who never liked him or tried to understand what the show was trying to do in the first place. Like it or not, him being a clingy child with attachment issues is the whole point of his character arc in the first two seasons. Something like, "I don't want to lose Sonic!" would be better to start with. Something more along the lines of that would still get across Chris' fear of others leaving him. You don't have to like how the original dialog was written, but if you're going to make changes to it at least understand why he says and does what he did, and not to try to make things more palpable to fans who usually just approach the character in general in bad faith.

The rewritten version just reminds me of what Kishimoto said about how it feels like Western audiences can't read inbetween the lines and need to have things spelled out for them and leave no nuance.

As for his whole one-off comment about Helen, that is never even brought back up or addressed in the show ever again btw, and that not every disabled person is going to find it offensive because it's so vague of a thing to say: The only reason some fans get so hung up about it is simply because it's their least favorite saying it about their sacred cow. That it's. If it was any other character like Amy who, they would it given a shit or even handwaved it away. But because it's Chris who said that means you gotta break out the torches and pitchforks. Even though he most likely learned it from someone else or just simply doesn't know any better and didn't mean anything malicious like any dumb child would.

Please be respectful to everyone please. You are allowed to hate Chris, but it's not okay to attack people who likes him. It doesn't help me nor you. And if you're a Chris fan, please be respectful and let the haters hate what they hate.

I grew up watching the first generation My Little Pony movie when it aired on TV in the mid 90s, but god damn, watching it now reminds me of how painfully slow it's pacing is. Of course it didn't feel like that to me when I was a little kid but now, well yeah. How many songs need to be unnecessarily crammed in to pad out the runtime?

Why yes, I do indeed have a Sonic OC. Her name is, Afrit.

She is a bichon frise who was given to Chris as a birthday present from a long time family friend, EzraErazor Djinn. She loves hugs and giving kisses. She's a good girl.🐶

Oh and she was dumped by her original owner and found panting and exhausted trying to find shade from the heat before she was given to Chris, so she and Chris share an affinity of feeling abandoned by those they love and trusted or something.
