Star Trek in Cinerama WidescreenĀ by Nick Acosta
āForty nine years ago today Star Trek debuted its first episode on NBC. The show, like all other shows at the time, was broadcast in the old style 4x3 aspect ratio. Using HD screen caps from my friends atĀ Trekcore.com, I created this project of what the show would have looked like in Cinerama widescreen. As a kid the show always felt bigger and more epic than it appears to me as an adult. I was able to create these shots by waiting for the camera to pan and then I stitched the separate shots together. The result is pretty epic. It reminds me of the classic science fiction movies of the 50ās and 60ās. Suddenly the show has a āForbidden Planetā vibe. Other shots remind me of how director Robert Wise would use a camera technique to keep the foreground and background elements in focus.ā
Just look at the sumptuous space opera this artist has created; how gorgeous it looks in widescreen. Heās captured and brought out the essence of Star Trek - It feels like the epic journey a Five-Year Mission into the unknown really would be.
Inspired by this post.

Ohhhh boy finally Iām finished with this bad boy. This is for @plaidshirtjimkirkĀ ās @oldmarriedspirk Challenge! This of course takes place before Spock returns to the Enterprise in TMP, and if itās not entirely clear itās a slight twist where Spock does in fact seek Bonesā advice for how to approach the Unfuckening he caused between TOS & TMP.Ā
The format and coloring was largely inspired by TongariāsĀ 25 Lives, which is one of my absolute favorite comics and pieces of writing, like, ever. :) I think itās so beautiful and it inspires me so much every time I come across it/an incarnation of it. Please check it out!
I really enjoyed working on this, but more than anything now Iām pleased to get it out into the world so I can stop worrying about it LOL. I hope you enjoy reading it! Thank you to my babes @nomical @beacorominas & @onedamnminuteadmiral for their eyes and ears and words of encouragement! <3 (Bigger and clearer version here.)

miranda's jealousy comes from insecurity - she sees spock as a threat to her relationship with kollos bc she feels that spock has a greater potential for intimacy with kollos. she feels like she's lacking something she needs in order to have a relationship with kollos at all; we know that among humans she experiences ableism and a lack of acceptance, but she isn't going home to vulcan to get away from them, she's going to kollos's home - and she's afraid she'll be rejected there as well. we aren't told what her experiences on vulcan were like, but i would guess that like spock, she found herself a child of two worlds, accepted by neither. she struggles to imagine herself finding anywhere she will be accepted, and she takes her insecurity and anxiety out on the one person who understands.
the way spock wears an IDIC pendant for miranda specifically, to honor her as a human raised on vulcan, but she takes it as an insult (bc she's in a bad mood and is jealous of spock) - was that his way of reaching out to her, of indicating some sort of commonality between them? she rejects that connection at first, but he's consistently on her side throughout the episode, and then she almost lets him die...but in the end she recognizes her own flaws, she mind-links with kollos, and they understand.

t'pring, walking to the pon farr site wearing a sparkly dress she specifically bought for this occasion: ok so either i can divorce spock and marry stonn or marry spock and sleep with stonn while spock's away...i don't really want to let spock die which could happen if he and stonn fight...or stonn could die and then i would have to marry spock and there would be no stonn while spock's in space...oh maybe i should just marry spock i mean he's gay i don't think he'll really mind if i have an affair
t'pring arriving at the pon farr site: oh look there he is
spock: (dressed in his work clothes & not even the dress uniform)
t'pring:
t'pring: fight to the death it is!
