somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time

so i wore a pride flag pin to work the other day and the kids were all interested (obviously) (find me a classroom of preschoolers who are not obsessed with rainbows) (i'll wait) so they crowded around to see.
"aww!" they said, "it's a flag!!"
but the thing is: they're little. a lot of them don't really have a handle on all their mouth sounds yet.
such as, notably, that tricky tricky "L" sound.

It was tradition…
At least that’s what Will had told him. The whole idea was probably to make Nico feel like he belonged, like he wasn’t so weird.
Either way, they sat in the rec room/war room and stared at the dart board- Austin and Kayla were in the back as Will explained the rules.
“Okay, so this for head councillors when they become, you know, head councillors. We didn’t do it during the war because it felt wrong but I think we should bring it back for you” Will stopped for air, Nico had only been listening to him and felt the same.
“So,” he continued, holding a jar filled with little paper slips, “You throw three darts and the number you get correspond with what you have to do, if you get double if one, you do it again and if you miss same thing.”
Nico twisted the dart in his palm, thinking, “Got it.” He threw the dart at the board.
“Geez, Neeks, bullseye?” Will grinned, “Putting us all to shame” He found the slip and handed it to Nico.
Nico held it for a moment; he knew the origins of this game, Alyssa had created it back when she’d gone to camp with Luke Castellan and Wes Byrne- Nico’s first experiences with the older demigod had been pretty negative at first and then she grew on him.
Like a nasty piece of fungi, okay maybe that was mean.
It felt weird to hold something so many demigods had touched: sure he’d been to Olympus but this was warm and human- carefully scribbled writing, crinkled paper, a bit of what looked like ketchup in the corner. It was like holding a little of the past.
Will was looking at him, expecting him to read it out, “Climb the biggest tree in camp” Nico said carefully scowling.
“You can always forfeit, we’d just give you another,” Will shrugged, “According to Lee, Al was pretty loose when it came to the rules.”
“Nah, I’m fine, I’ll do it after,” Nico grabbed his next dart, hitting 3x3. Will handed him another slip, “Tell your crush you love them.”
He turned to Will, “That doesn’t have to wait, I love you Solace,” he gave him a short sharp hug, Will tensed then relaxed, wrapping his arms around Nico.
“Love you too, Di Angelo”
Nico detached himself and took the last dart and hit a 20x3 to which Kayla cheered, throwing her fists in the air. Nico looked at the them all, “What?”
Will laughed, “20x3 is one of the hardest scores to get in darts. It’s also a favourite in the game…”
“Well, what does that mean?” Nico looked at him, his mind running with possibilities.
“You get dunked,” Kayla grinned at him in glee, cutting in before Will could, “In the lake!”
“Hell no, I’m climbing a tree for you guys already,” he crossed his arms.
“It’s not your choice, Neeks,” Will laughed, “Come on guys!”
Austin, Kayla and Will all picked up Nico, who was scrambling in their grip before realising that hey maybe he didn’t want to fall on the floor.
They led him out of the Big House, parading him through the camp. Campers looked at him curiously, that was before Will shouted, “We’re dunking Nico!”
They found their way to the dock of the canoe lake and threw Nico in the water. Nico spluttered spitting water out his mouth and pulled his hair out his eyes, “Happy now?,” he hissed.
Austin spoke up, “He looks like a lab that chased a ball into the lake.”
“I was thinking more of a cat,” Kayla looked at him before Will gave them both a playful slap on the back of their heads.
“Doesn’t matter, it’s up to interpretation,” Will held a hand out to Nico, who gladly took it and climbed back onto the dock.
Will peeled Nico’s soaking jacket off him and put his own fluffy hoodie off his head, “By the way we don’t expect you to climb the tree anymore”
“And is that out the kindness of your own heart?” He grumbled, pulling the hood over his head.
“Well yeah,” Will replied, “Also getting dunked kinda overrides everything else”
“Thank fuck”
“Exactly,” Will wrapped an arm around Nico, “We’re gonna give you some soup and warm you up.”
“I hate soup.”
“Of course you do-“ Will grinned.

Sucks to see people already faulting Pomni for being buddies with Jax.
Her friendliness towards him in episode 5 is 100% a reactive response to him being more down-to-earth and friendly with her first, juxtaposing their early interactions in episodes 1-3.
Though I’m not entirely convinced yet that Jax has 100% goody goody intentions being chummy with Pomni, Pomni being nice back DOES make sense. She is stuck in a digital nightmare circus world with only 5 other real people. If one of those people who was unpleasant before starts being more chill, of course she will be receptive. She doesn’t want to be completely miserable.
Also, regardless of what you think of Jax morally, which I do respect, it’s clear no one in the circus at this point thinks of him as truly evil. They just think he’s an asshole. So it’s not shocking that if he started being nicer someone would be nice back.

One sad side effect of big box stores is that you just don’t get lifelong hyper fixation guy access like you used to.
Like yeah I can go to Menards and buy a door.
But it used to be I could go to the door store, and speak to a man whose sole passion in life was doors and who would talk about the history of door insulation patterns over the last 50 years without stopping to breathe.
That man is gonna find me the BEST door option for me.
Seriously my neighborhood had one of these. They were across the street from the lighting shop owned by the guy who could tell you the exact date, off the top of his head, that your property got electrical wiring based on your address.
Now these guys rarely get to own a shop, make a good living, and sell the very finest doors for decades. They’re relegated to Reddit posts which are informative but ultimately do not replace door guy having a door shop.
I don’t want to talk to some miserable, underpaid 20 year old who was in plumbing last week and in doors this week and doesn’t know a hammer from a hanger.
I want my door guy back.
