aurelius task #004 / TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE
marked by anxiety and marred with hesitance
HOW have the new ministry happenings and the attacks during the time jump affected your character?
RA: A lot, just on a personal level. Her anxiety levels have spiked exponentially to the point she's been put on new medication just to mellow her out. Everything is happening too fast and too much that the state of the wizarding world genuinely scares her. It doesn't help that she's connected some dots in the bigger picture that she deliberately ignores just so she can have some peace of mind. Not as much on a worldly level. She was not visible to the people who were attacked, even if the thought of it scared her, and if anything, her parents are becoming more protective especially since her youngest sister is starting at Aurelius in the new year. RW: He likes to pretend that it hasn't affected him much, but in reality, he thinks about what's been happening probably an unhealthy amount. He's terrified for his father as a ministry worker and has very very deep suspicions about what's happening when it comes to the new minister. It's a lot, so much so that he can't really truly wrap his head around what is actually happening? Basically, he knows it's bad vibes but has no idea why. The attacks too affected him in a way he didn't expect. A lot of the people who were attacked he's never liked very much, maybe even hated, but it scared him to know these people were hurt (and dead!) which made whatever happening too real. So he's holding on to the people he loves even tighter now.
DID any of the disappearances or attacks involve someone your character knew?
RA: She only really knew of them, and many of them don't know of her. At most, she knew some of them through their quidditch matches. RW: Yes, but most of them if not all have antagonistic relationships with him. Losing Dumbledore hit him hard though.
HOW did your muse react to the news that their classmates ( aster, cormac, flora, hestia, mori, and pansy ) were attacked? were they concerned to learn of aster’s coma? did they go to visit aster or cormac in st. mungos during the months they were there?
RA: Fear, mostly. These people, young people, were being attacked for things seemingly out of their control, and she happened to live in their periphery even if she didn't know them personally. RW: It was weird because he never expected to ever feel bad for these people because of how they treated him and his friends. But hearing how serious it was, and for the Carrow twins to have died... It hit him in a way that he didn't expect. Like a weird grief, almost. He didn't visit, but did genuinely think about it lol. Just to give flowers or whatever.
DID your muse have any connection to the carrow sisters? what was their reaction to flora and hestia’s tragic passing?
RA: No, but she did get a panic attack at the news. RW: He didn't really like either of them. One of them was particularly rude to him, and he despised her at some point. But hearing of their passing just made him feel bad.
WHAT are some notable things that your character did over the time jump? any big events? did they have a birthday?
RA: Nothing particularly of note, but she is started to like her shifts at the hospital wing! RW: He got a minor injury on his knee, so he couldn't play pick-up quidditch games for a couple of weeks. Ron also turned 25 in March which he spent with his friends at Hogwarts!
WHAT did your muse do over the summer?
RA: She had a month of placement at St. Mungo's - a requirement for healing specializations starting 3rd year, which went off without much of a hitch (thanks meds!), and hung out with her friends (particularly Vale & Effie) in London. Her and her family visited her dad's side of the family for about a week and half in Seoul. Other than that, she was definitely mostly at home becoming a hermit for a bit lol. RW: Went to the Quidditch World Cup with Harry and Hermione (and his family) where he got to ignore the things happening in the world. Probably slept over at Harry's and Hermione's a lot when he wasn't at home because his mom stresses him out and he'd rather not be in that energy if he can help that. He also was a part-time kiddies quidditch referee, which he surprisingly enjoyed... partly because seeing the kids' clumsiness was funny.
WHAT’S your character’s stance on werewolves now, after all of the happenings and attacks over the past year?
RA: She isn't particularly suspicious of werewolves in general because she gives anyone the benefit of the doubt, but she's highly suspicious of what's been happening with the ministry and doesn't trust the werewolf task force. RW: Because of his family's history with werewolves, he's never liked them much. With the attacks and such? He really doesn't like them right now, especially because of the threat they pose to his family and friends. He wouldn't wish being a werewolf on anyone, even his enemies.
WHAT was your character’s reaction to the news that dumbledore was missing? what about when it was revealed that he died?
RA: It struck terrible fear in her heart, especially his death. The castle always felt safe with him in it, and now without it, she doesn't know if she can find the same comfort she did before. Wth everything unfolding, she feels like she always needs to look over her shoulder now. RW: Shock, then fear, then anger. Ron still cannot believe it, honestly - who had the gall and power to overtake a legendary wizard like Dumbledore? What would this mean for the wizarding world? Ron doesn't know, but god dammit he's going to be angry about it.

"mum's been complaining about it too," cho offers with a sympathetic smile, her eyes leaving her book to face the other, "though she'd never run. people judge her incessantly as it is." it isn't as if she doesn't care too about this — in fact, she probably cares too much — she's just trying to take her therapist's advice to heart. no hyperfocusing on political news. buuuut, it's hard to when aurelius is directly tied to it. "i'd trust your mum over most of these candidates."
who; open where; the library
Rolling her eyes, Freya dropped the newspaper onto the library table in front of her and shook her head. “Another dreadful lineup of Minister candidates, of course. At least according to what I’ve read so far about them all in the newspapers.” It was also so typical that not a single one of the candidates was a witch. It was about time to have a woman in charge — maybe then things wouldn’t be such a mess in the Ministry. “Maybe I should have told Mum to try and run,” she said sardonically, laughing at the very idea.

"i could handle it myself." percy responds. it's supposed to be a part of the joke, but deep down he's actually reassuring himself. the weasley resists the urge to hide his face when ripley comes closer to inspect, though he does pull away a bit. he doesn't like this feeling of vulnerability. "it's-- it's fine, ripley. why are you here? you alright?" he changes the subject.
ripley can see the sensitivity of his pride in his eyes right now, so she goes along with it. "of course they'd never dare to bother anyone else after you were done with them, right?" she chuckles, mostly amused at the possibility of it all. though she went along with it, she'd be damned if she would let him be hurt any longer. "i'm fine, just wanted to find a place to nap." she batted away his concern with an easy shrug. her eyes continue to train on his broken nose, examining it from where she sat. "i can help with that, seriously. i'm not specializing in healing for nothing, y'know."

ron didn't know what would've happened if he hadn't decided to come to the party today. should've been studying, sure, but you gotta have some off days, right? "you're lucky i decided to get a drink today, mate." unfortunately, he barely got through his first pint before stumbling upon eddie tonight, clearly out of his wits. his arm was around the other's waist, holding him up best he could as they made their way through the hallways he knew were being lightly patrolled. "how much did you get into in there? merlin."

the tension in her shoulder slowly ceases, but her eyebrows are still furrowed ever so slightly. wrinkles be damned, she supposed. "they're right, you have to take it easy," she adds with a small sigh, sliding over a goblet of coffee to hannah. she knew how much the other went in on studying, and of course, it worried her. "you should invest in some muggle medicine - some pills help with headaches easily." ripley takes a bite of her toast and bumsps her shoulder against hannah's as she gestures to the food. "sustenance is also important though."
" relax, relax, i'm alright! " hannah reassured the other, holding her hands up. " if you worry like that, you'll get wrinkles! " she moved a strand of hair from her face. the truth was that she was alright — stress can do that you. it also didn't help that she studied and possibly may have overdid it last night. sometimes, she has a tendency to that. it's her panicking that she hasn't mastered the material needed for school. " i overdid it with studying last night is all, so they told me to take it easy. " she looked down at her stomach, gently patting it. " i could go for a little something... "

she knocks her shoe against vale's, just to twin his action, a proud grin brightening up her feature. "aren't you proud? no ink smudges on my cheek to boot." there was far too much ink on her hands as it was anyways - it's why she's switched over to the pen for now. plus, despite his teasing, they both knew there was far too much truth in his words. "i got my nap in after lunch - my medical theory class got canceled."
ripley scans over the work in progress again and again, appreciating his work. it still stunned her sometimes how beautifully vale painted. "oh it definitely will! i'll make sure of it." as if she had any power over that - but truly if she could, she would. "what's the inspiration? you haven't told me."
her overly dramatic sigh of exasperation has his lips quirking up, and at her little pet name he's knocking his shoe against hers once more. it's a shame that the halloween event is always a fancy dress-up event, or else he'd go costumed as a knight to please ripley and her favorite title to call him. "i'm surprised you're awake right now," he notes teasingly, lifting a hand to brush the pad of his thumb over her cheek as he continues, "i half expected to look over and find your cheek smudging the ink on the parchment."
valerius shrugs off the compliment despite how it warms his chest, but he's never been one to brag over his abilities. "it'll be the harp in our common room when i'm done with it," he tells her as he's wiping off the brush to set it in the color he's ready to use, though his gaze wanders to her every few moments without fail.

percy weasley never expected that ripley’s presence out of all people would give him comfort, but, there they were. he could see the worry in her eyes and percy hated it when people worried about him. it was the other way around, always. percy was the one who worried, so he simply had to make light of the situation. “oh, you know me, i was just minding my business and all of sudden these ten slytherins show up, trying to mess with me. anyways, i beat them all up–” percy flexes his bicep whimsically “–and all i got from the fight was a little broken nose. you should see the other guys.”
her eyes land on the nasty redness on the bridge of his nose, clearly indicating its broken status. yikes. "ten slytherins? sounds like a reportable offense to me on their part," ripley adds casually, taking the seat next to percy without missing a beat, "'m surprised you didn't go to mcgonagell first." she leans in to inspect percy's nose a bit more closely, the line between her eyebrows prominent. "i could help with that, if you want. your nose, i mean."

"or, y'know, burn down the whole dungeon," she adds bluntly. despite that, the affection in ripley's expression is evident as she looks over at effie, bumping her shoulder against her's. "i'm partial to a picture wall, always, but that might clash with your aesthetic." her eyes once again land on the burned tapestry. "we should probably do something with this before anyone can start complaining."
ripley’s somehow incredibly no-nonsense response to her ramblings made effie burst out laughing. “give me a little bit of credit, rip. i’m destructive but not crazy. i didn’t want to fill my dorm room with smoke.” she hummed a little when ripley asked her question, she honestly hadn’t thought that far ahead. she had been too preoccupied with getting rid of the tapestry. “no idea. do you have any thoughts?”

you'd think the hospital wing would be a bad place to hide out, but really when it's quiet, ripley found herself enjoying the empty beds thoroughly. even if madam pomfrey reminded her not to get too comfortable every other hour, she never really kicked her out. but the moment she stepped in and saw percy, she knew the wing would be a bust. "i'm not here to wait, don't worry." she looks over the other with a tilt of her head, empathetic in the way her eyebrows knit. it was strange, seeing someone like him out of it. "what happened to you? you okay?"
status: open to everyone where: outside the hospital wing
percy wanted to keep a low profile, as much as possible since the events from this day. to his study session being ruined, to getting into a fight, the weasley wished the ground would open up and swallow him whole. however, even percy had those moments where he could admit he needed help, especially medical. so he sat outside the office patiently, suddenly hearing someone else entering the room and regained his composure. “they’re a bit busy today. it’ll be a while. lots of accidents, it seems.”

"suppose it was always a matter of when and not if it would ever happen," ron adds with shrug, crossing his arms across his chest. it was a peculiar situation for sure, something his dad talked about incessantly in the family group chat. he's not exactly in the best place of mind, but you couldn't fault him for trying, right? "can't say i anything to offer, but honestly i'm down to just drink the day away, mate."
open starter
location: aurelius grounds
Dean flipped through the pages of the Daily Prophet, the front page loud and clear that Fudge was out of office. He'd been there when the minister ran off, ignoring the people questioning him. It really was only a matter of time. Tossing the paper aside, he snorted, "We could have told them a long time ago that he was shit." Even his wiztab was going off about it but he'd been ignoring that. "Someone tell me something at least kind of good today, if I see another story about this man I'm going to lose it."

there's an overwhelming sense of curiosity as ripley listens to effie's words, but she knows better than to ask questions before the other is done with her thoughts. "i'm honestly just glad you decided to do this outside," she offers as her eyes run over the black, burnt material that was once a tapestry - half impressed, half struck by the lengths her friend would go to. you'd think she'd be used to it by now. "you thought of what you'll put up to replace this?"
open to: everyone location: transfiguration courtyard
"sometimes people tell you that something can't be set on fire, and they tell you this because they think it will stop you from trying to set it on fire," effie looked down at the burnt remains of what had once been a particularly ugly tapestry which had hung in her dorm room. "I, personally, have found that in those situations it is best to try and set that thing on fire anyway, just to check." her grin was perhaps verging on unsettling but that was overwhelmed by the clear pride she felt, and the honest belief she was imparting crucial wisdom to her fellow student.

ripley doesn't even realize her brow is furrowed until a familiar (thankfully, familiarly comforting) voice snaps her out of the concentration on her wiztab. hannah's presence is always welcome, but when her words properly compute in her head, the furrow in her brow returns. "hospital wing?" automatically, she closes her tab, worry laced in the lines of her forehead. "you okay, hannah? something happened?" she gestures the other to the empty spot next to her, though the concern doesn't wane. "want something to eat, at least?"
LOCATION: entrance hall
CLOSED STARTER FOR: ripley ahn ( @moonscts )
making her way away from the hospital wing, hannah felt much better than she did earlier in the day. it was amazing what the aurelius matrons could do, one of the reasons why she chose 'healing' as her specialization. this morning, she woke up with a headache, which then got worse until it was a migraine. now, with the help of the aurelius matrons, she was ready to properly start her day. as she looked around the entrance hall (originally going to get some fresh air), her eyes stopped on a certain someone, causing her to smile. she jogged, making her way over to see her friend. " mind if i join you? i've just come from the hospital wing. " she moved a strand of hair from her face as she looked over at the other.

call it juvenile opposition, or purposeful rule-breaking - whatever it is, ron is well aware he's not meant to be out. the rain's just great at clearing his thoughts. and he needs it after the events of the night. but he'd be damned if he wasn't immediately pulled out of it the moment he hears a familiar voice. one that worries him a lot too. "y'lost meow meow, 'tilda?" he quickly runs over to her - call it his natural gryffindor instinct - but stops just before the perimeter of the willow. old experiences told him that standing any closer would be bad. at least he knew growing up meant he gained some logic. "uh- get out of the willow's space first will ya? we can search for her together then!"
status: open to everyone
where: the whomping willow
when:just after enforced curfew
Matilda stands in the pouring rain, mascara running down her cheeks under the downpour and clothes soaked through “ Meow Meow - c’mon meow meow ”, she calls out, desperately trying to coax her fifteen-year-old, one-eyed Maine coon from beside the trunk of the temperamental tree. “ fuck ’’ she mumbles in frustration, wiping the hair from her face as she notes the figure approaching her “ I know - I know its curfew but I can’t - I can’t just leave her out here, and she’s not - she’s not listening to me ” there’s an unmistakable note of annoyance and frustration mixed with desperation in her voice “ and I can’t leave her out here ” she repeats as if the person beside her is Dumbledore himself “ I wouldn’t want to be left out in the rain - especially if I was really old and only had one eye. ”
