Guys, percy can just not use it.

He can decide against saving his mum because the war between the gods has to stop and its only in the underworld that he realizes the whole story and that he has the power to end it all since he has the bold

He has to leave his mum behind despite having an realistic way to save her - maybe because there is not time, maybe because she is to far away, maybe because he has to let go off her and do this on his own

But he has to make the decision himself

I think giving Percy 4 Pearls instead of 3 or something like that is really smart if you leave out your knowlege of the book

Percy wants to save his mum, thats why he went on the quest in the first place and giving him 4 pearls gives him and the viewer hope that he'll be able to do it - he now thinks that he gets his mum back, that he just has to find her

Also having the trio fail to get to the underworld before summer solstice and having them fail their quest is such a smart choice as well - because Percy called the plan of Kronos and Luke (or hades and clarisse as far as he knows) more important than the war of the gods

In the eyes of the trio and TV only viewers the prophecy became true and still Percy has to get the Bold and stop the war so the gods can stop the bigger plan from happening

Percy will go into the underworld, expecting that the prophecy had fullfild itself and that he still needs to stop the war all while finding his mum and bringing her back

But we book readers know that the prophecy is not over - Percy will fail to save his mum, just like how he will be betrayed by Luke

The 4th pearl is there to give Percy and us hope, a promise that the prophecy is fullfild and that Sally will come back - But she wont, we know it, because she is what matters most and percy has to fail

I think Harry Potter has a lot of problems that have only been discussed in recent years (in the general public, the respective groups have been talking about this for a long time).

In addition to the blatant fatphobia experienced by the dursleys and peter pettigrew:

negative behaviors of the characters are constantly and repeatedly linked to the weight of the characters

the only real description we get of peter is that he is overweight

When Dudley in particular is described eating, it is always in a negative light (he continues to eat while his aunt is blown up or hangs like an animal over the birthday cake given to Harry by Hagrid) whereas e.g. Ron is much more in is shown in a comedic light no matter what or how much he eats

There is a clear difference between being overweight as a negative description as in Dudley or Vernon and Molly who is also plus size but whose weight matches her image as a loving and caring mother

There is also extreme misogyny in a book celebrated for its female characters:

Lavender Brown was made fun of in the books because she was a sixteen year old girl who was in her first relationship and happened to be very much in love with Ron. Her behavior is portrayed as idiotically obsessive and odd, especially when compared to Hermione (the admirable heroine) who up until then had shown no romantic interest at all and it was clear: Lavender is an embarrassment for having nicknames for her boyfriend and wanting to spent time with him Hermione and Harry seemed to have every right to make fun of her - at least according to the books, because Lavender never gets an apology from either of them.

And Fleur Delacour had to endure the hatred and banter of Molly, Ginny and Hermione because she was a pretty French woman and therefore clearly has no brains. Ginny makes fun of Fleur because her English isn't perfect because it's only her second language. Molly just assumes that fleur doesn't want anything to do with bill anymore because he was attacked by a werewolf and is now 'unattractive'

and again: no real apologies, at least none that I can remember. And Harry, as our narrator, never questions the way these young women are treated

It is 100% important to talk abt the antisemitism, racism, etc in the original harry potter books but i think it’s time we start discussing the insane amount of fatphobia in them too
