chibnall has a habit of declaring the doctor as the moral authority in every situation, and no one can question her without being the villain
like in the spider episode, when the trump guy was gonna shoot the spiders, like sure it was cuz he was an asshole but getting shot is more humane than starving to death in an enclosed space surrounded by other dead bodies
and this keeps on going on, so her companions might get mad at her, maybe, but they won’t actively question her moral judgement
and they should because three genocides in one episode? being fine with freezing someone in a half concious state for eternity despite saying that it was a fate worse than death like 10 episodes before? i’m not even gonna touch on kerblam
it’s very frustrating after seasons upon seasons where the doctor is shown to be not a very good guy, and the show questions those decisions
then again the previous doctors’ companions were actually characters and not exposition with the occasional character trait

aha what if i posted my twenty-four-page essay (5.6k words) on why Chibnall’s era of Doctor Who, on top of being so badly written it hurts, is so performative it’s actually deeply harmful….. no…….. unless…
#rebogging again because... I’m not finished#so Rosa... the very best they could give us was random ‘space racist’ causes trouble in super boring ways’#and I get they wanted the focus to be on Rosa and they didn’t want to make the sci fi storyline to take precedence which I agree about#but you can still tell it’s more chibnall wanted to include because ‘hey everyone I’m woke!’ w/o dedicating the time to it it deserved#(altho I think there is also something sus about the ending where they have to stay seated and again graham is the one whos most focused on#and for the most part I really do enjoy that ending-but in a way it does add more focus to the doctor and team over Rosa#cuz it’s because of their horrible decision to have to stay seated that Rosa is allowed to change history... idk maybe I’m looking to deep)#also is anyone else bothered by the fact the big take away about how IMPORTANT Rosa is that... an asteroid was named after her?#like they could have showed a 51st century ‘Rosa parks commission for inclusion’ or whatever but no... her legacy is a giant space rock#like geez I was more impacted by seeing a future copy of an Agatha christy book... which doesn’t feel right#you know I’m glad that the show is finally tackling the race issue cuz that has fallen disappointingly short with the other RTD and Moffat#but if you’re gonna do it... maybe put a little bit of care and thought into it#and then beyond the performative activism of the show... the writing just makes it that much more irredeemably bad#part of it is because chibnall just sucks so under his oversight no one has been allowed to really flourish#but part of it is because the show is so focused on simply including its activism and making it so obvious that the story of DW takes a hit#it’s in my belief that you can write activism around the show but (at least w this team) you can’t write the show around the activism#being a fictional sci fi show about its characters (at least in my opinion) has to come first cuz... well that’s what the show is about#but when you start with the activism and decide to write your plot and characters around each episodes ‘stance’ it starts getting messy#and that’s how you get plots like orphan 55 and Rosa where the episodes have a clear stance but the story itself isn’t that compelling#and to make the activism so obvious and in your face that the art of the show suffers... isn’t the success some people think it is#‘well they are finally being obvious and not hiding behind clever metaphors!’ ummm... sorry but isn’t that kinda the point in fiction?#look back at some literary classics... I don’t think those stories were exposition infodumps about why bad things are bad things#if you have to be so obvious that you can’t use a good metaphor or story & expect ur viewers to do some critical thinking... thats not great#just cuz it’s more obvious and in your face doesn’t make it good... and if I just wanted to watch the news then I’d watch the news#anyhow I am about to run out of these tags and now I’m prolly more rambling than anything else#I really thoroughly enjoyed this essay and wish more people could see the truth behind it#I’m glad for the people who can enjoy chibnall who as a show#but I wish criticism of the show didn’t have to revolve around ‘it’s a girl doctor with activist plots so that’s good!/evil!’#it’s ok to like the good things a show is doing (or trying to do) while still being critical of wat its doing wrong & how it could be better#anti chibnall

#YOURE 👏 RIGHT 👏 AND 👏 YOU 👏 SHOULD 👏 SAY 👏 IT#chibnall era is so infuriating to me because of everything you wrote about plus more#but it’s the fact that chibnall wants ALL the credit for all the diversity in DW without doing any of the work for it#like it’s great that we got a black female doctor#but i always thought it was really out of place and insensitive to make the first POC doctor basically just a footnote in the shows history#and it’s great you added all those POC/female versions of the doctor when they were being experimented on#but... it just seems like you’re changing the shows history to force a narrative that it’s always been an inclusive show which it hasn’t#also I don’t think chibnall or anyone else considered the harm of using a majority of minority doctor getting experimented on#and then you look at the treatment of the creation/development of the POC and/or female characters to the white men characters#because there are a lot of different women/POC in the show... but they never get their proper development#just looking inside the TARDIS team... graham probably has the most character and development out of that group... INCLUDING THE DOCTOR#and then you take a step back and include the side characters and you start to see the same patterns#not to say that the white men of the show are the only ones getting good writing- but that’s cuz NO ONE on the show is getting good writing#but just one example of this is Graham’s vs Ryan’s storyline when it comes to Grace’s death#yeah we see both characters working through their grief and acceptance of it... but Graham is the one with the real storyline about it#and I’m not saying Ryan HAD to have an arc about Grace... but then again he didn’t really have an arc about anything#and same with Yaz- they both have points in the series where they deal with something if the episode needs them to#but overall they just aren’t given that much importance in the overall story of the show#and 13 gets a mild personality and development but it’s nothing compared to what her male counterparts got in their terms#but even the Doctor’s mood and personality changes to fit what the episode needs#not to say that’s never happened before cuz otherwise doctor who would just be about a weepy alien crying all the time#but like compare 13 after the master’s timeless child drop at the start of S12 to 10’s grief over Rose in s2#with 13 it mostly seems like the timeless child thing only matters when there’s an ep involving it in the plot (at least in my memory)#but then in the example with 10 he is a mess all of s2- not enough for it to derail the show- but enough for it to act as a series arc kinda#or at least as an arc more thoroughly executed than the timeless child one in my opinion#in terms of activism... yeah I could go on for hours about kerblam and how no one bothered to think that story through#but even the eps that were more well meaning fall short for me bc you can tell the writers (or at least chibnall) still just don’t care to#look at orphan 55... that whole ep is just a mess but we’re supposed to be impressed cuz OMG ITS EARTH!#and the doctor gives a ‘care! or else!!’ speech that never really affects the characters or story cuz its just preachy performatism as usual#ok I have so much more to say but this is my last tag

If Spyfall had been written by a certain other writer, every other post would be talking about how gross it was that the Doctor casually handed the Master over to the Nazis after breaking his racial perception filter, but since it’s Chibnall it’s somehow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ not noticed huh? lol

loollll I love that last anon with their sexy confession! I have one of my own: I haven't seen GITF either! 🙈🤫
Oh, so many people have this very same confession it would appear! Let me help you all out by presenting you with a quick summary:
T H E   G I R L   I N   T H E   F I R E P L A C E
PAIRING: Moffat x His Ego x His Dick
CHARACTERS:
The Tenth Doctor: Time Lord, in general maintains the laws of time and makes sure everything is right in the universe, kinda important, but chucks it all away for I think 5 years of shagging?
Reinette Poisson: real, incredible leading lady of 18th Century France, a pioneer of arts and culture, appointed the Advisor to the King (Louis XV), literally brought nations together, a philosopher, a patron of the great philosophers of the Enlightenment, presented here as a physically sexy Strong Female who spends her life and subsequently dies waiting for a man because isn’t that what all women do? #relatable
Rose Tyler: formally pivotal in caring for and loving the aforementioned Doctor, now The Nagging Wife. See also: ‘Camilla’, home-wrecker, ‘your mother’.
Mickey Smith: the tin dog, but not as useful
A horse?
SUMMARY: Monsters are in search of nicking Reinette Poisson’s brain (perhaps because it is a wonderful marvellous brain but we’re never told, I think in this story it is a Plot Device to make her needing to be saved by a man), but the Doctor comes to the rescue! He unexpectedly falls in love with her (understandable considering she is Hot and Flirty), and must save her before the Droids claim her as their own. Either way, she waits. Meanwhile, Rose and Mickey have an adventure of their own and get caught, nearly die but thankfully don’t because of wine, and then get left behind on a spaceship while the Doctor saves Reinette and Rose waits to be saved too.  No more spoilers, you!
CHAPTERS: Far too many
TAGS: AU, romance (but the objective toxic kind), sex?, male gaze, anti-feminism, some pretty cool Clockwork Droids, really great costumes, sex, objectification, misogyny, sexy women, love requires the tolerance monsters

i remember being 13 and reading a whole bunch of steven moffat quotes where he kept calling rose tyler annoying and too stupid for the doctor and being the “type of girl to get pregnant as a teenager” and going as far as to say he’d kill her off if she hadn’t been separated from the doctor before his run and me being like “....this feels bad beyond these things being said about a character i like” and only now being able to identify that it was classism. the emotion was classism

Okay, I’ve been thinking a lot about the discourse within the DW community (mostly on here) about River Song, and even though my opinion isn’t necessarily unpopular or unheard of, I wanted to give my thoughts to anyone who cares.
So, I’m obviously a Doctor/Rose shipper through and through. Although this post isn’t about them, I still feel the need to mention their relationship, if for anything to set a boundary or precedent. Their relationship wasn’t flashy or abundantly apparent (at least from the beginning). I always really admired RTD’s writing in this aspect, because he created a relationship based on an intense mutual caring for one another, and didn’t immediately take advantage of that to create a romantic narrative.
This directly feeds into my disdain for River’s storyline. Admittedly, I liked her in the beginning - it’s always great to see a strong woman in the spotlight, especially one who seems to be deeply complex in character. As the storyline went on, however, and I began to look deeper into her relationship with the Doctor, I unfortunately grew to resent the direction she went in. I’m not one of those people who believes it’s impossible for the Doctor to love anyone besides Rose, either. Their relationship just felt… wrong. Not genuine. Crafted.
TLDR: River disappointed me because I liked her character, but I felt that her relationship to the Doctor was too much too fast, making it seem very unlikely.
There’s so much more I could say, so if anyone wants me to elaborate, feel free to send me a message.
