i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.

make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.

spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.

i saw this mask wearing DJ on tiktok and now I can't stop thinking about DJ! Simon Riley x reader who has a quiet life and works a regular 9-5 (warning strobe lights in linked video)

On stage, in front of loud crowds and strobing lights, he is Ghost. Loud personality, even louder music. Playing to the audience for 30 minute sets or hours long residencies. An enigma.

No-one but a select few know who lies behind that mask, and it just seems to entice his fans more. After every set there will be hundreds of comments on videos, guessing about the handsome face that lies behind the skull painted material.

"no ring!!" comments say. "what i would do to go home with him after the set!!" others add.

What they don't know is that the second he finishes, he slips quietly away. Gold band sliding onto his ring finger, show mask slipped off and a medical one slipped on. Steps lowered to a private plane and a non-stop flight to the nearest air field by your home.

By the time his key is slipping into the lock, the sun is nearly rising. Gold and green sparkling in the soft sunlight across the countryside you had begged to move to. A tractor rumbling by his flash car in the driveway and a wave from the farmer just starting his day to Simon, just finishing his.

Your 9-5 was hectic enough, and with how much Simon travelled you wanted your time together to be relaxing. He had always told you that he made enough for you to quit, to buy apartments for you to stay across the world when he travelled, but you liked routine - you liked working, liked the people and the work (most of the time).

Your work shoes kicked off beside the shoe rack has his mouth curving up, bending at the waist to tidy them into place. A small lamp left on in the hallway for his homecoming. A post it note in the kitchen telling him of leftovers in the fridge if he's hungry.

But all he wants is you. A quick shower, hands scrubbing over his hair and skin, rough towel dry, and he climbs into bed behind you. His warm arms wrap around your body beneath the covers, your hand coming to wrap around his forearm and your neck twisting to press a kiss to the underside of his jaw.

"Good set?" You mumble into the quiet room, soft creaking as the radiator turns on for the morning.

"Mmhmm." Simon hums, pulling you closer against him when you twist in his arms, face pressing into the crook of his neck. "Good crowd."

His heart is steady under your chest, show adrenaline fading the closer he gets to home.

On stage he is Ghost, a presence that attracts all the eyes in the room and keeps that attention for hours on end. At home he is Simon, only caring about the person in his arms.

"'Time's your alarm set for?"

"Seven thirty," you manage around a yawn.

His eyes flick to the clock on the bedside. 6:56. His smile presses against your temple as he starts a slow path of kisses down to your neck.

"Simon-oh." Your admonishment turns to a gasp, his knee sliding between your thighs before rolling you on your back. "I need to be up for work soon."

"I'll be quick, love." He pulls the covers over his head and slides down your body.

And he doesn't stop till all he can hear over the residual ringing in his ears is the sound of your sleepy moans.

I think fandom fundamentally lost something when fan content stopped being treated like a free creation from another fan and more like a YouTube video dropped from your favorite influencer.

it’s become content and consumers, not a community of people and it’s fundamentally breaking the ecosystem.

I’m glad to see more discussion about the experience as a non-white person in the PP fandom. I have been in many ‘fan groups’ in my life, 80s baby here, and this one has surprisingly been the most unwelcoming and triggering in many ways (💜minus the ✨amazing✨ readers, mutuals, and friends I have made here. This part is the good stuff.) 💜

I’m glad to see more discussion about how we get overlooked and our work, art, and moodboards get ignored.

I’ve been yelling into the void about this since 2020, many others as well, and many for much longer than me. We get ignored, overlooked, nasty anons, the list goes on…

In my time sharing here, I have tried to make things as diverse and inclusive as possible while highlighting black and brown folks. But I tell you, my readership suffered, my moodboards (which I put my heart and soul into) were only shared sometimes, if so it was by a few lovely mutuals and amazing readers who supported me.

My engagement has always been a struggle. I could actively see my moodboards and fics with brown skin characters get 0-10 likes and no reblogs while ones with petite pintrest ⚪️ women get 100+. This happened often, minus cool surprises like when something would be shared by a bigger blog and then i’d see more engagement for a burst of time. Only in these cases I would have the most reach and see that reflected in things like reblogs and likes. Anyway…

This has been a discussion for a long time. I got so tired I stopped talking about it. I stopped posting about it. It seemed my voice, and many others didn’t matter. I took many breaks only to come back and find things worse and the little community I had mostly gone. I stepped away from here and the PP fandom.

I was and am greatly disappointed that there is such a lack of support and blatant (plus passive aggressive) racism in this fandom for a poc!

Recently, to see the confederate flag used as an aesthetic choice in a fic (by a writer I did enjoy and follow) was a blow. Especially even more now as a queer woman with brown skin living in a country that voted a racist criminal into office, again.

Fan-fiction should be a safe place to escape. Why would we want to see our very valid fears and hostile signs like that flag in fics we read?

On that note, it is crazy to me we have to experience this at all, but especially in a fandom for a poc man!!

Again, I am happy these conversations are happening. Will things change? I dunno - I feel doubtful. I am pissed. But I do hope there will be change.

Ps: just because a character is from the south, and has an accent, DOES NOT mean you have to make them racist. As a woman with Louisiana Creole roots via my dad, and Southern (GA, NC, VA) both via my mom and dad (I grew up in the North so no accent and all for me) BUT I do write alot of Southern Gothic. Would I add that fucking flag even tho it’s around? No.

Don’t do shit like that. Do better.

Pss: this is bigger than me, I am not just talking about my self. My work is not for everyone, some will dislike it, thats totally ok, i have weaknesses as well as strengths as a writer, thats ok - i am talking about this on a grander collective scale of things. We already lost so many creative talented poc and queer writers and I myself have been distant from the fandom as well. Don’t be surprised if more continue to leave if this shit keeps up.

I feel like some people need to relearn Genre Expectations... "Man, this tragedy sucks!!! Why didn't they just do XYZ, then everything could have ended happily!!" well, then it wouldn't be a tragedy, would it. "Man, this lighthearted teen romcom is terrible, it's so sappy and unrealistic!!" Well, yeah. If it had been gritty and dark, it wouldn't have been a lighthearted romcom, would it.
