The depicted Moravian church register 📖 from just south of Christiansted, St. Croix, dated 1744 to 1831, contains 9,712 baptisms and marriages of individuals that took place in Friedensthal Moravian Church during that time period. This register, both hefty and delicate, is one of several items that will be conserved and digitized through the support of an #NEHGrant, announced today by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Originating in today’s U.S. Virgin Islands, the register contains the following information about each individual: partner, baptismal name, former name, nationality, master or plantation, by whom baptized/married and when, date of first communion, and date of death.
