rewatching the infamous archivists loredump stream (Oct 11) and got to the part where phil is like "oh yeah another bombshell: bagi said she grew up on the island and she has a brother" and cellbit of course responds "oh yeah maybe hes on the island too maybe hes frozen somewhere" and you can SEE phils face as he tries so so SO hard not to go ooc and joke about it because like. ccphil knows. cccellbit knows. ccphil knows that cccellbit knows. but their cubitos do NOT know, and it's killing him.

Collector Hierarchy

So based on absolutely nothing I created a ranking system for Collector's species, which I've dubbed 'Celestials' for the sake of differentiation.

This hierarchy system will be canon in my TOH Fanfiction thingy based on that art I made of me and my friend as a Collector and Titan. Stay tuned to see more of that.

Women in Science Day (psssst... get a behind the scenes look)

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! At the National Archives, women bring considerable technical skills to their work every day, including the women of our Heritage Science Research and Testing Lab.

Lindsay Oakley and Cancy Chu test a new colorimeter instrument with a sheet of color standards. Understanding how color shifts over time is an excellent way for scientists to see how materials change as they age and ensure we provide the best possible preservation conditions for records like documents and photographs.

Jennifer performs X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy to identify the pigments used in this watercolor of Fort Pierre. This supported its safe conservation treatment before being displayed as part of the “All American” exhibit.

How does @USNatArchives decide how long a document can be on display?

Scientists and conservators use another type of artificial aging test, this time with light. This micro-fadometer uses high-intensity light for a short time, measuring changes undetectable to the human eye. This information helps us create light budgets for items as they are displayed or used for research.

Lindsay Oakley, NARA’s Director of Heritage Science Research and Testing explains what heritage science is and introduces the scientists and research projects that make the lab such an important part of NARA’s preservation efforts.

"People in Halifax were able to digitize their historical photographs on Sunday and share them publicly as part of an initiative by the Halifax municipal archives.

"The archives held a Scan-a-thon at the Halifax Central Library for members of the public to bring in treasured photographs, slides and negatives that showed local history.

"Municipal archivist Susan McClure said the archives are looking for any historical photos, including neighbourhoods, construction projects and pictures connected to the railway."

currently obsessing over the idea of both phil and cellbit being unable to sleep. cellbit going on a walk across the island, finding phil sitting outside his house on the little pier just watching the world go by. both having their own worries and problems, finding comfort in the idea they've been through a lot together. phil offering cellbit a seat and they just sit in silence together. every now and again they would bring up some sort of conversation, about how richas was doing, or how the house was coming along, but other than that, just nestled in a comforting silence.

but after a couple times of this occurring, they start to breach more deeper subjects. more of what happened during both purgatorys. phils issue with the enderking and cellbits current conflict with roier and whatever is happening with him at that point. cellbit begins to be reminded that phil is a father figure to him, whether they see each other often or not.

sometimes they'll talk over a mug of something warm. other times they'll go on walks around their small island while they chat, sometimes the conversations will go on for hours, other times only a couple of minutes. it didn't matter, though. they simply spoke about whatever they needed to at the time. cellbit found comfort in having somebody to look up to, and phil found comfort in finding someone to reassure him of his worries about his children.

our archivists have my heart, it's a shame they aren't online at the same time much.

The sudden burst of popularity inspired bemused comments, like, “A candy wrapper museum? Now we’ve heard everything.” But mostly people wrote in to thank me, sharing how the sight of a long-gone favorite candy bar proved to their friends that they weren’t delusional. One person asked if I had a wrapper from the 1930s that his 90-year-old mother fondly remembered enjoying as a child. He later told me that the images I sent flooded her with emotion, rekindling the feelings of being a little girl again.

This is when I knew I was doing something important. We think of collections as “things,” but we also collect special moments that may not stay front of mind, but never fade from our hearts. A rush of joy returns when we reconnect with them through objects of the past. In fact, this was how my now-husband, Joe, and I first met: He was in search of a cherished childhood candy, Nice Mice—the very first item I’d collected. To this day people come to me with questions about ephemera they can’t find anywhere else, hoping I can help uncover connections to cherished memories around candies from their past.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t do more, Cellbit. We were making active plans to leave when I got tossed in prison.” Cellbit looks confused at that statement. “We can get into that later, for now I just want to apologize I wasn’t there for you both. I should have been as your leader, I failed you.”

Cellbit extracts himself from the crow’s hug at that point, standing up quickly to take a few steps away holding himself close again. It seemed he couldn’t speak the next sentence to Phil’s face, voice softer than ever as it bounced off the stone walls. “It was better I think, that you didn’t see us at our lowest.”

A few heartbeats pass before he finishes by saying. “I think you would have been disappointed.”
