Just found out that the dietary calorie is still measured by burning food in a "bomb calorimeter" and then measuring the heat produced. There's no solid evidence that this method is at all equivalent to how our bodies process food (an entirely different chemical process from combustion), the accuracy of this system has been disputed for as long as it's existed, and there are no available alternatives

There are 4800 calories in a kilogram of dry sawdust even though wood is completely indigestible to humans, because calories don't measure nutritional value, just how well something burns

god. clutching my fist. ryuunosuke is just so. man.

he's so compelling to me in a way that phoenix never has been for me (love phoenix but not like THIS) and I think part of it is that the "character has undeniable talent for a skill they never thought that they had" trope GETS me. the way that he fits into a mold he never even thought about fitting...

the way that he considers himself a poor substitute for his best friend, to the extent that he wears his friend's armband loose around his arm despite it being PHYSICALLY ADJUSTABLE. and then of course it turns out that ASOUGI was the one who forced himself into the mold that ryuu so naturally fit into for his own (selfish - sorry asougi i adore you too you are a FASCINATING character) goals. of course asougi becomes a fantastic prosecutor in his own right and clearly is extremely sharp, but ryuu never has that same selfishness and is conscientious to a fault sometimes. he devotes every ounce of himself to justice so strongly that he's the one who pulls asougi back from the brink.

when the objectively bad person has traumatic and honestly reasonable reasons for why theyre like that but it doesnt excuse their actions and only serves to make them more tragic as a character
