Over the course of his decades-long career, Dr. Morrie Craig has earned dozens of accolades and awards for his research and contributions to the field of veterinary toxicology. Just 10 years into his professorship at the Oregon State University School of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Morrie Craig was awarded a Lifetime Honorary Membership by the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association. As a result of his continued dedication to toxicology research, he was selected as the 1996 Scientist of the Year by the Oregon Academy of Science. He later secured two prestigious fellowships awarded by the Department of Defense and the Fulbright Program. His research into mycotoxins and livestock health has garnered hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding. Most recently, he was awarded the Greyhound Pets of America Service Award for his work involving the care and post-career treatment of racing greyhounds. After stepping down after more than 40 years with OSU, Dr. Craig continues to be active with the Fulbright Specialist Program and will participate in an upcoming exchange project with an Egyptian research institution.

The Iditarod - A Primer
A noted veterinary researcher, A. Morrie Craig has been investigating endophyte toxicity for over two decades. Additionally, Morrie Craig has developed drug testing guidelines for racing greyhounds and was chief of drug testing for the Iditarod sled race for 25 years. The Iditarod is not a very well-known race, but it has some of the most passionate participants of any sport. It’s essentially a sled race that starts in Anchorage, Alaska, and ends in Nome, Alaska, a distance of more than 900 miles. It begins on the first Saturday in March and lasts as long as it takes for the last racer to finish or forfeit. Joe Redington started the Iditarod to bring back sled dogs to Alaska and to give the Iditarod Trail distinction of being a National Historic Trail. Many think it was started as a way to commemorate the Serum Run of 1925 that saved Nome from a diphtheria outbreak. Mushers (dogsled drivers) come from all over the country every year to race in the Iditarod. Most of the dogs used are Alaskan huskies, and the race is restricted to Northern breeds to protect animals that aren’t suited to the cold environment. The health of the dogs is taken very seriously both by mushers and race staff, and there are veterinarians stationed at checkpoints throughout the race.

A Preview of the 2020 International Grassland and Rangeland Congress
Based in Corvallis, Oregon, Dr. A. Morrie Craig holds a doctorate in biophysics from Oregon State University. Dr. Morrie Craig is the former professor of toxicology at the Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Craig is planning to attend the 2021 International Grassland and Rangeland Congress as a featured speaker AND HAS BEEN ASKED TO REVIEW SUBMITTED PAPERS. . Held since 1927, the International Grassland and Rangeland Congress is a global meeting that brings together leading scientists from around the world to discuss grasslands-related research. The POSTPONED 2020 International Grassland and Rangeland Congress is scheduled to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, NOW on October 23-29TH, 2021. The congress facilitates the sharing of scientific and technical information related to forage crops, cultivated grasslands, and natural grasslands. The goals of this information exchange are to benefit humanity by promoting sustainable development, improved methods of food production, and the preservation of biodiversity. Topics addressed at the congress will include wildlife, drought management, and pastoralism.
