The exhibition ended up looking pretty sharp, there was a stack of floor plans printed out with our names on, a loud bass heavy jazz/hip hop soundtrack and plenty of attendees on the opening night. I made a little water feature by suspending hoses over the existing basins which complimented the spa vibe. It was fun but It did raise the question which has nagged me in other similar student instigated Art openings; Is the Art just party decoration?

The exhibition was put together very quickly; upon visiting the empty spa I decided I would take the opportunity to create a new piece of work in response to the space. I found that I could remove the modular grated ceiling and re-configure it to form semi solid 3D forms. This also revealed a much higher original ceiling and the botched/bizarre installation methods of the previous shop fitters.

SPA
Last weekend I showed work alongside a group of Artists in a vacant Garra Rufa fish pedicure spa in Elephant & Castle shopping centre.
I enjoyed the experience despite previous ill feeling towards hastily put together ‘student’ gallery shows.
It was nice to make a piece of work with a purpose outside of University.
