Is there a reason the pwyw comms are through ko-fi tips instead of having it as a commission type?

It's because they're intended for people who can't afford the full commission price and the tip function only takes a transaction fee instead of platform + PayPal/stripe fee which deducts around 5$, unfortunately that amount matters when you're being payed under 20$ y'know.

The quality not guaranteed marketing is mainly just because I still to this day am unable to unlearn the deviantart mindset and I still expect to be receiving these under the pretense that they are fetish mining requests where there is a non 0 chance of the guy who asked for it replying "this fucking sucks" and calling me gay. I do still try my best to make them look nice.

(important note also that they're cheaper via PayPal invoice, if you can't afford the 5$ ko-fi upcharge n still have to use stripe you can in fact just ask me nicely and I'll give you a discount code for it)
