cut scene from THIS IS A LIFE (ao3)
snippet: reigen pitches the "Spirits and Such: Original Company Reunion Retreat & Get-Together" to serizawa. it goes pretty well.
hey! this is from ... late 2022, iirc. there were a lot of little scenes i ended up cutting from the final fic, and this is one of them that i really liked. hopefully sometime this year i'll get back to writing for serirei -- i miss them terribly. here's to (maybe) more fic outtakes i'll post this year. hope you all have been well.
/
The summer after Mob graduates middle school, Reigen announces a company excursion to the beach. There’s no one else in the office aside from him and Serizawa since Tome was out with her high school friends and Mob and Teru were at the movies, so it's currently up to Serizawa to have the projected reaction of one adult man and three teenagers receiving unbelievably good news.
With piqued interest, Serizawa leans over Reigen’s desk and listens to his partner ramble about the rental car, the cabin rooms (all time low prices), and how vacation boosts morale before placing a hand on his shoulder. Reigen leans into the touch, force of habit.
“Reigen,” Serizawa says, “you don’t need to say this trip is just for business or anything.”
Reigen scoffs. “Of course I do! Because it is! You should know by now how passionate I am about nurturing strong – nay, exceptional – workplace satisfaction.”
Serizawa grins. “I also know how much you like a good deal.”
“Yeah, well, who doesn’t love it when stuff is cheap?”
Serizawa levels him a knowing look. “Nobody. I’m just saying you like them the most.”
“Debatable,” Reigen grumbles, “you should meet my sister.” But his lower lip wobbles in a poor attempt to mask a grin, and Serizawa’s fingers press into the knots in Reigen’s shoulder. He takes quiet satisfaction in how they start to relax.
“I think the kids will really love it. It’s been a while since any of us have been to the beach. The onsen was relaxing and all, but it was still related to work at that time and wasn't just for pure leisure.” He shifts his hand down, cradling Reigen’s elbow in his palm. “We could all use a break. The kids, obviously, and you, too, just as much.”
“Hmm.” Reigen makes a content little sound, gaze resting on Serizawa’s hand on his elbow. “You’re right, of course.” Then, fondly, “You’ve got such nice hands.”
“Ah?” Coloring slightly, Serizawa huffs out a laugh through his nose. “I thought you said no flirting in the office.”
“Only if there’s kids around,” Reigen says, rising from his chair and placing his hand over Serizawa’s, interlacing them and letting them drop between them.
In an absent, gentle motion, Reigen swings their hands, the warm weight a comforting point of contact.
It’s nice, to get to have this. Little things they don’t need to talk about and don’t have to talk about. Having whatever they’ve got going on right now, slow and warm and theirs.
“I mean it,” Reigen says. “You could go into palmistry or whatever, have a table near the door. Read customer’s hands for a nominal fee of…of 2,000 yen per fortune.”
Serizawa pretends to think about it, humming a low note in the back of his throat. “Only if you let me take the full cut.” Reigen narrows his eyes. “Aren’t we business partners?”
“Apparently.”
“It’s on the lease!”
“And as a result, I get a significant say with our finances,” Serizawa says mildly. “Full cut or no deal.”
“Fine,” and Reigen draws out the i for the theatrics – he’s just as often faking annoyance as he is genuinely annoyed – but Serizawa knows him well enough now to know the difference. How he likes his tea, the angle of the window blinds. The pillowcase he likes best.
He bumps their shoulders together, laughing at the way Reigen releases their hands to knock him backwards into the kitchenette. Busying himself with making tea, he hears Reigen behind him nonetheless, his voice rising with ramblings of driving and partners and sunscreen, arms a wide arc fluttering in circles behind his back, fingers occasionally brushing Serizawa’s coat.
The cupboards open with a dry creak, and Serizawa takes the tea packets down, peeling two of them open as the kettle whistles.
There’s a slant of warm sunshine that’s settled on the floor, between the junction of Tome’s table and Reigen’s shoes, and the light smell of jasmine in the air.
It’s nice, Serizawa thinks to himself, unbidden. This … is really, really nice.

My headcanon is that Tome would bully reigen and serizawa (lovingly) into making a cryptid factor type podcast with her. I mean… they have so much material to draw from

[I.D. A digital illustration of charachters from Mob Psycho 100. In the foreground Reigen, wearing Christmas antlers, with a guilty expressions on his face, is holding a badly warpped gift. In the background Serizawa and Dimple are smiling (one's is amicable the other's - derogatory). Serizawa is holding up a gift with his aura. There are several presents and a christmas tree to the left of him. End I.D]
Thank you @mp100secretspirit for hosting this event ❤️
Happy Secret Spirit @smishymish :D
My prompt was Serizawa snd Reigen wrapping presents for the kids (and Dimple being there too). I hope I did it justice! I loved the second prompt too but I thought it would be fun to see one thing I imagine Reigen isn't good at
Hope you like it and that you have fantastic holidays!!! ( ◜‿◝ )♡

snapshot: the rain isn't relenting anytime soon. reigen asks serizawa a question.
;
Serizawa lifts his window blinds, frowning at the clouded mist clouding the glass. From above, the sky’s a darkened gray, with lightning flashes filling the horizon. “Looks like the rain isn’t letting up.”
“Huh.” From his spot on the couch, Reigen tilts his head, stance oddly reminiscent of a curious dog. He rests his palm against his cheek, considering, before clearing his throat. There’s a note of something much too airy, borderline nervous, in his words when he asks, “Is it alright if I stay here until it clears?”
He’s stayed here before, sometimes for whole days. But still, Reigen asks, just to make sure that he’s welcome and can linger here, in Serizawa's home. He always asks so he can hear the quiet, ready response of: yes, you can stay.
You can always, always stay.
Serizawa’s finger slips loose from the blinds. He turns his head, meeting Reigen's searching eyes. A warm ache blooms beneath his ribs.
“Of course you can," Serizawa says.
Reigen laughs, face flushed pink. “Thank you.” With that, he flops onto his back, popping it loudly. A content smile crosses his face as he yawns. “C’mere, then. Looks like we’ve got a free evening to ourselves for once.”
“For once?” Serizawa settles beside him, knocking their legs together as he pulls Reigen into his chest. “You see me every day. We say goodbye at the office every night.”
Reigen’s eyes close, but his smile widens, lips pulling back to reveal a flash of teeth. “Yeah, but relaxing.” He rearranges his legs until they’re in Serizawa’s lap and nestles his face into Serizawa's neck. “It’s nice. We should do it more often.”
"Mm," Serizawa hums, running his fingers through Reigen's dry hair. It's become familiar, over these past few weeks; the soft, steady warmth of Reigen's body against him. "We should."

snapshot: lucy knows. (270 words)
::
The door to Sheriff Truman’s office swings shut. But even after the oak latches into place, Lucy can hear the faint ringing of the telephone, where it rings three times before being picked up.
She hears the sheriff greet whoever is on the other line with his familiar drawl. But after a second, he pauses. Then, Lucy hears him say, in a low voice so affectionate she could imagine his smile accompanying it: “Hey, handsome. Nice to hear from you.”
When Agent Cooper returns from his most recent case two weeks later, he taps her desk gently, asking for the sheriff. He’s wearing his windbreaker layered with a dark sweater and turtleneck. To be quite honest, Lucy thinks it's a nice look.
She watches him subtly check his reflection in the glass of her barrier, the tip of his fingers turning his chin to the side for the briefest set of seconds as he assesses himself. When his gaze locks on hers again, Lucy wordlessly directs him down the hall, and he shoots her a grateful smile before walking away.
The oak door to Sheriff Truman’s office swings open, then shut. Though muffled, she can hear Agent Cooper’s bright voice say something – probably Harry, I’m back – before being abruptly cut short.
When her shift ends, Lucy doesn’t see them come out. She shoulders her purse and pulls on her gloves. Slowly, the lights around the station flicker off, and long shadows fill the small quiet spaces, save for the faint glow sandwiched between the carpet and the sheriff's door.
