Tonight me and my gf went to see a High School production of Newsies and there were so many details that I adored while watching that I felt the need to share~
Romeo had bright yellow suspenders and a hat and it was such an iconic look.
Jack would rip off his hat a lot and run his hands through his hair when frustrated/excited and his hair would spike up a lot.
One of the newsies did a cartwheel and stumbled at the end and specs caught and helped them back up.
Crutchie had a little red bandanna around his neck!
Davey’s actor doing a BEAUTIFUL “poor guys head is spinning” Ik Ben would of been proud.
A group of background newsies doing limbo under broomsticks during King of New York.
During Watch What Happens Katherine had a usable type writer and would click the buttons to the tempo of her song and it WAS SO CREATIVE.
During Something to Believe In Jack and Kathrine were on little lofts that the other Newsies spun and moved around the stage while they sang.
Jack spinning Katherine around during Something to Believe In and dancing with her.
The Delancey brothers wiping their tears away with handkerchiefs when Jack told Katherine he’d stay in New York.
The school hired a dialect coach so everyone had the accents.
Instead of having door props they just had two guys physically holding boards painted like doors and moved to ‘open them’ and honestly it was a vibe I loved it.
Davey taking deep breaths and collecting himself before addressing the Newsies during the rally.
Davey also fully stopping in his tracks, finger up, mouth open and everything in shock and saying “…what.” when Les says he has a date.
The Newsies running through the seat isles during the union fight as cops chased them out of the room.
Jack running up to Crutchie when he was out of the Refuge and hugging him.
When Jack betrays the Newsies and runs with the money, the lights dim and while the other newsies run off shouting Davey is trailing behind them and throws his hat on the ground in defeat.
Jack did a sketch of Katherine from the page of an old book instead of a Newspaper.
Jack and Katherine also only shared one kiss, the other times they’d run into each other’s arms and hug tightly and it was so freaking cute.
They had Newsies in pants/shirts and skirts/dresses! They got so creative with the costumes!
Pulitzer swinging a pocket watch around while singing “times running out boy, so what do you say..?”
I know there’s more but this is all I could remember right off hand, it was such a wonderful time and I hope the people part of the production know just how amazing it was! You could tell lots of love and effort was put into it ❤️🗞

Character Profile: Graves
Real Name: None.
Nickname and Meaning: Graves, because his parents worked at a graveyard. (Q&A with Anthony Zas)
Age: Unsure. Probably between 15 and 18 if he’s part of Spot’s main force.
Gender: Graves is played by a man.
Family: Unsure. He had parents in the past tense, but one or both of them could be dead by now.
Graves…:
Is a big fan of Spot. He stands next to Spot during Brooklyn’s here, and chants “Spot! Spot! Spot!” when he arrives at the newsie rally. (Jack’s Betrayal) It is unclear whether he is close with Spot or if he’s just very enthusiastic about him.
Likes fighting. During Brooklyn’s here, he has a strike sign that he swings around like a baseball bat. (Brooklyn’s Here) He is also “handy with a shovel” which could mean he can use it as a weapon. (Q&A with Anthony Zas)
Doesn’t seem to like Jack. Even before Jack speaks out against the strike, Graves stays pretty far away from him and doesn’t seem to interested in what he’s saying. (Photoset) After Jack betrays the newsies, he gestures at the rest of the Brooklyn newsies to leave. (Jack’s Betrayal)
Headcanon Fuel:
Why doesn’t Graves like Jack?
Did Graves also work at the graveyard?
If so, why did he become a newsie?
Alternatively, why did he join Spot’s gang if he wasn’t a newsie?
Why is Graves so much more enthusiastic about Spot than the other Brooklyn newsies?
Actors and Physical Appearance:
Anthony Zas
Graves is short (but not as short as Spot) and muscular, with curly dark hair and a square jaw.

There are two (2) acceptable ways to write Jack Kelly and they are 1) absolute complete dumbass who has no idea how talented he is or how hot he is and 2) the cockiest motherfucker on the planet who’s the best at what he does and he knows it and he also knows how hot he is but actually he’s just number 1 who puts on a face because he’s sensitive and self-conscious and doesn’t want to let anybody in

in the 2007 disney movie meet the robinsons, in the scene where lewis is on the roof, you can see that, engraved on the door to the roof, in red, is “sarah + jack”
this could be a reference to the 1992 live-action disney movie-musical newsies, released fifteen years earlier, in which jack kelly romances sarah jacobs. in this essay, i will
