Oops, there I go sewing again... A follow up to last year's MetalGreymon plush, what would be more appropriate to follow up with than WereGarurumon?
This came out to be a bit taller than I wanted, measuring about a foot tall if you don't include the ears, but I am incredibly happy with how it turned out! Its a MUCH smaller project than the last one, so it took just over four weeks to complete, and could have been done faster if life hadn't got in the way. But I love how detail dense it is, especially the pants! I also experimented with a new technique of using the string itself to make some of the details, like the scars and mouth, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Once again, this model is made entirely out of felt and was entirely hand stitched (I don't know how to use a sewing machine...). This was a lot of fun to work on and I love how both figures look standing next to each other. Guess I'm going to HAVE to make four or six more...
Fun Fact: Apparently there are two designs of WereGarurumon. One with a tail and one without. I always assumed that art Ive seen of it with a tail was just an artistic choice or mistake, because the anime never gave it one, nor does the figure I used for reference. BUT the original artwork for it does have a tail, even if 99% of it is covered up. Anyway, I didn't realize this until the 11th hour, made one, and decided it looked better without one. I'm just obsessed with the fact that it took me about twenty years to figure that out...
Fun Fact 2: A lot of the comments on the MetalGreymon plush were asking how I'm able to make this sorts of things when I don't use any sorts of patterns, and I never really had an answer. I just understand how to material works, and that comes with experience. HOWEVER, I learned from my aunt, my Mom's sister, that she is able to do something similar and can recreate a pocketbook from just seeing it. And she told me that her grandmother, my great-grandmother, who immigrated from Cuba close to a century ago, and who died long before I was born, was also able to do this with dresses. So combine that talent with an ADHD fueled ability to sit and do a simple task for hours and hours, and you get an ability to make things (tm). Anyway, just a cool story about where my talents might come from that makes me feel connected to parts of my family that I never got to know.

Mega MAGCARGO (Fire/Steel)
Been wanting to make some new Mega Evolutions since the trailer for Lengeds A-Z came out but haven't had any chance to until now, also right now I have no Photoshop so I am using Photopea, which makes things a lot slower to work
Mega MAGCARGO is based on the Scaly-Foot Snail (Chrysomallon squamiferum) mixed with the Schwerer Gustav railway gun. Its shell now is made of Iron and its body is covered in Iron scales that can be used for protection

In the original Metroid for the NES, inputting the character name "Justin Bailey" for Samus leaves her in nothing but a bikini.
In an interview with the art director for a Super Metroid, it was confirmed that Samus Aran is a [insert slur for transgender women without bottom surgery].
Given these pieces of information, we can assume that Justin is Samus's deadname, and that the name angers her enough that she will strip and fight her missions wearing nothing to prove shes a girl.
Just like me fr fr.

The Thing from the Far Side of the Moon
O joyous day, it has begun!
The earth divorces moon and sun.
Elder man and baby both
Celebrate our oldest troth!
Bring your stew and yarn and masks.
Today, we have no other tasks.
But to welcome, welcome here.
We bathe in broth, both thick and clear.
The fragile cloth of space doth slips
For today is no normal eclipse.
They call it Un Ekac Galoon,
It hides in darkness on the moon.
But when the eclipse starts to slide
And Earth and sun are sick inside,
Un Ekac Galoon’s loving arms
Black and jingling with lucky charms,
Reach and grope the planet’s face.
The clouds will scream as we embrace.
His claws rend stone and filth and flesh
Skin like withered, scaly mesh.
An eye that peeps sits low in sky
With snaggle-toothed smile, grinning wide.
As the sky turns pink and green
His crippling fingers do careen
Downwards to the molten core
Feeding, licking, chewing, or,
Teething on the chewy center.
Un Ekac Galoon will be our mentor!
The crows will bark, the snakes will hop,
As trees sag to earth with a flop.
The oceans dance with grime and grunge,
As earth and rocks heave like a sponge.
The stars stay far, far away with fear
When he whispers secrets in our ear.
But when the sun grows well again
We all will weep, for we know then
His arms of mesh and love and crust
Will hug no more, so we must trust
That he’ll return on joyous day
When next the sun is to be slain.
Until the next dark, eclipsed moon,
For that brings Un Ekac Galoon.
..............................................................................................................................
In celebration of the eclipse coming close to my neck of the woods next week, I thought I'd share a little thing I wrote while exhausted back in 2019! May the eclipse bring peace and silence!

A Word of Advice About Critique Groups, Beta Readers, and Other Peer-Based Feedback on Your Writing
In my time as a professional editor, I've have many writers come to me with stories they've been trying to improve based on suggestions from critique groups, beta readers, or other non-professional feedback sources (friends, family, etc.). The writers are often frustrated because they don't agree with the feedback, they can't make sense of the comments they've gotten, or they've tried their best to implement the suggestions but now they've made a big mess of things and don't know where to go from here.
If this happens to you, you're not alone. Here's the deal.
Readers and beginning writers are great at sniffing out problems, but they can be terrible at recommending solutions. For that reason, critique groups can be a disastrous place for beginning writers to get advice.
Here's a good metaphor. Imagine you don’t know the first thing about cars. Someone tells you, “There’s oil leaking onto the driveway. You should cover the car with a giant garbage bag.” Alarmed, you oblige, only to be told the next day that “now the car smells like burning plastic and I can’t see out the windows.”
A mechanic would’ve listened to the critic’s complaint and come up with their own solution to the leaking oil, ignoring the amateur’s ridiculous idea, because they know how to fix cars and can use their skills to investigate symptoms and find the correct solution.
Critique groups actually aren’t bad places for experienced writers, because they can listen to the criticism, interpret it, and come up with their own remedies to the problems readers are complaining about. Beginning writers, on the other hand, can end up digging themselves into a deeper hole.
There's a great Neil Gaiman quote about this very conundrum:
Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.
So what to do?
First, try to investigate the reader's complaint and come up with your own solution, instead of taking their solution to the problem. Sometimes, in the end, the reader's solution was exactly right, which is lovely, but don't count on it. Do your own detective work.
Second, take everything you hear with a huge grain of salt, and run the numbers. Are 9 out of 10 readers complaining about your rushed ending? It's probably worth investigating. Does nobody have an issue with your abrasive antagonist except your cozy mystery-loving uncle? Then you might not need to worry about it.
Third, give everything you hear a gut check. Does the criticism, while painful, ring true? Or does it seem really off-base to you? Let the feedback sit for a week or so while you chill out. You might find you're less sensitive and open to what's been said after a little more time has passed.
Lastly, consider getting professional feedback on your writing. Part of my job as an editor is to listen to previous feedback the writer has gotten, figure out whether the readers were tracking the scent of legitimate problems, and offer the writer more coherent solutions. Of course, some professional editors aren't very good at this, just like some non-professional readers are amazing at it, so hiring someone isn't a guarantee. But editors usually have more experience taking a look under the hood and giving writers sound mechanical advice about their work, rather than spouting ideas off the top of their head that only add to the writer's confusion.
Hope this helps!

A.I. photos are flooding social media and contributing to an Internet where we can't believe what we see. Spotting A.I. 📷s is an important media literacy skill.
None of us have time to research every image we see. We just need people to notice BEFORE THEY LIKE OR SHARE that an image might be fake. If unsure, check it or don't share.
I've started drawing some comics explaining the basic of AI spot-checking and media literacy in the age of disinformation. Follow along here or on my Twitter.

I made a thing. MetalGreymon has always been one of my favorite digimon, and this is an idea I had about two years ago. I'm immensely proud of how it came out! It seems like every two years or so I get the inescapable urge to craft something, and this was the end of result. This took about three non-continuous months, but most of it was completed in the last two. It can't stand up on its own, but measures about 16 inches tall when supported like this, which easily makes it the largest plush figure I've ever worked on. It's made entirely of polyester felt and all the sewing was done by hand. I'm already beginning to get the urge to maybe make some more Ultimate level Adventure partners to go along with it, but I need a break after this beast.
