Probably my one weakness is mini eggs from @cadburyuk and husband is super keen to indulge in the Bournville orange and I’m keen to try the Dark Milk. But I know I’m pretty much just going to eat the mini eggs, use them in my baking and the like. I’m thinking of maybe using them in shortbread because cupcakes are easy. Celebrate a truly poetic feast in the name of Robert Burns with premium award-winning whiskies from @tescofood . From the fruity and floral Speyside to the heartier Highlands, toast a wonderful malt by the fire with friends and family this Burns Night. This is an own brand whisky which have in the past gotten a bad reputation but I feel that the whisky has earned its silver award and deserves some attention. 🥃 I got #gifted this bottle of whisky and so both husband and I tried it because I always keep these things for myself and in the interest of balance and fairness I decided to allow him to try a small amount. So he got a sip from my glass. 🥃 Hailing from the very north of Scotland, this whisky enjoys extended cask-maturation (with a deck chair and a drink I'm sure) before bottling. Its flavour develops slowly over 12 years (because if it developed more quickly, we'd drink it sooner like some other whiskys on the market) in hand-coopered American oak barrels (as opposed to robotic coopers who just don't seem to ever get the hang of the thing - humans FTW). Slightly fuller in style than the Speyside, it has layers of rich dried fruit flavours, sweet spice and caramel. A deserved IWSC 2019 Silver Medal winner. 🥃 So enough silliness - what was our verdict? Husband: It was a bit harsh for him. He prefers 18 year old because it is often smoother. He's not a fan and would probably choose something a little older. (Do note though that husband is a peaty/smoky whisky fan and this is not peaty/smoky) Me: I enjoyed it. A less challenging whisky and unlike husband, I do not like my whisky peated. I did find this smoother than husband described, it was totally drinkable and light. The barrel comes distinctly through with a gradual build on the palate from sweet notes through to the spice. It's a straightforward, uncomplicated whisky that would be a good accompanyment to any Burns Night celebrations. I don't know what he's on about... even used my @thethreedrinkers @theglencairnglass 🥃 I did genuinely enjoy this whisky. I was #invited to try the @brigitsbakery #myxmasafternoontea because as part of @valrhonauk Responsible Christmas and in collaboration with Brigit's Bakery and Valrhona, @baptiste_frement_pastry_chef_ has developed a special Afternoon Tea based on Valrhona’s Single Origin range. I've tried the range... it is HUGE and varied but specifically this is about helping certain cocoa-growing communities who need it most. 🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫 The afternoon tea was more than just food. The afternoon tea actually takes you on a tour of London, taking in the sights of Albert Hall, Kensington Gardens, Marble Arch and many other famous London sights. It also takes place on a vintage London bus making it a unique combination of afternoon tea and tour of London. 🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫 Valrhona has been taking action to support producer communities for over 30 years but without really shouting about it. For Christmas 2019, Valrhona wanted to inspire everyone to work together to make the chocolate industry sustainable. #nofilter for my dessert at @nadegetoronto in the delightful surroundings of a packed @yorkdalestyle mall. At least it was warm... 🧁🧁🧁🧁🧁 This beautiful patisserie consisted of three chewy, half disintegrated macarons, an overly sweet tart with the pastry case taken to the edge of being caught (why yes, that pastry does look a little dark does it not?), and a cream I could have injured someone with had it not softened slightly with the melting of the macaron. 🧁🧁🧁🧁🧁 If that had been my first impression of the brand, I’d never go back. This is after deciding against the dark chocolate cake with the *worst* finish I’ve ever seen commercially, clear marks in the finish of the pink bombe where someone had taken a piece out of it, and other seriously questionably finished patisserie. SCIOCOLA the chocolate festival in @visitmodena in Italy is *HUGE*! Boasting over 75 stalls of chocolate and related products, there are a huge variety of types and styles of chocolate. @sciocolafestival is one of many food festivals and features the amazing local artisan producers including members of the local artisan food producers who are a part of a collective called @cna_modena which is dedicated to promoting the amazing local food. 🍫🍫🍫 At the central chocolate festival event tent where the to-scale life sized chocolate F1 Ferrari (Modena is the spiritual home of @scuderiaferrari it seems) is located you can learn about how chocolate is made from the pods on the tree to the tempered final result. 🍫🍫🍫 Once you have learned about this process, pop over to the Dolcem stand for some of their single origin chocolate. You can choose from Uganda, Tanzania, Venezuela, and others! 🍫🍫🍫 Ramble along the stalls until you reach @marisa__tognarelli_ who is the lovely woman in the picture here and buy some of her 24k gold topped traditional balsamic vinegar which has a hugely proud heritage in Modena. The thin chocolate shell made of Peru or Tanzania chocolate topped with 24k gold cracks easily releasing the liquid high quality authentic balsamic vinegar into your mouth to mix with the chocolate ganache. Are you a chocolate lush like me? Sometimes I find myself at @rabot1745 and grab a famous @hotelchocolat hot chocolate and sit and enjoy people watching. Fun fact - in the evening they serve wine! 🍫🍫🍫 But this dense chocolate brownie was exactly what I was craving... a densely darkly gooey chocolate brownie with a lush milk chocolate hot chocolate which wasn’t too sweet. 🍫🍫🍫 The place was *full* but I got lucky and someone left just as I got there! Have you seen the Hotel Chocolat Chocmobile? . You may have heard of the @hotelchocolat Chocmobile, serving probably the best hot chocolate around, coffee, brownies and an endless range of chocolates and truffles. And of course: Ice Cream of the Gods. All on the move. You might have seen it in the recent BBC documentary that aired on Channel 5. . It’s pretty hard to miss. And now... *they want it back*. . Sad news is that overnight their Chocmobile was stolen from outside Hotel Chocolat HQ. This is seriously NOT COOL and the thieves will get far less for it than it’s value to the business. . As innovators, HC recreated hot chocolate the way it is in fine establishments, and the way it used to be centuries ago (ish... centuries ago it was a bit crap TBH but thick and less sweet with no palm oil and no filler - just sweetness and cocoa). That means nothing artificial - just their own chocolate, grated and served in steamed milk. . The Chocmobile’s job is to dispense chocolate happiness on tour around the country. . Oh I do love a cheeky preview and @thorntonschocs give some delicious previews! These cheeky elves are actually all different (well, there are at least 3 different expressions I found and ate...) and the brand new, hot off the line. The first one I tried was quite dense with a thick filling but the other two were soft whipped filling elves (but also they were all at different chill levels). 🍫🍫🍫 A solid mouthful, these will satisfy parents and children alike over the holidays and are super affordable. Yep - that would be the very first official #cadburydairymilk (well, it just says #cadburychocolate) smothered #oreocookie people! 🍪🍫🍪🍫 I wish it had been a double stuff frankly as it is yummy but needs a bit more... So this was a bit of a revelation - @originalsmallbeer is a delicious low alcohol beer. I’ve sadly had a lot of low alcohol alcohol beer so I’ve accidentally taste tested a lot... 🍺🍻🍺 Have you ever tried a low alcohol beer? What was it like? 🍺🍻🍺 The flavour isn’t washed out as some low alcohol beers and it doesn’t taste like hops and water (some no-alcohol beers). The lager is slightly more bitter than I’d usually opt for but I generally don’t opt for lager. The ‘steam’ was nicely dark without burnt notes and only a little bitter. It was the highest of the beers at 2.7% but it was really delicious. 🍺🍻🍺 The lower alcohol content doesn’t really make the beer taste much different. These were lighter beers than I usually opt for but that didn’t really make as much of a difference as I expected it to. 🍺🍻🍺 I think these are really nice beers on their own without worrying about the alcohol content.
