Now that Bloom Into You has been in existence for almost ten years, it's interesting seeing new yuri fans read it and often come out of it underwhelmed. I think it's important to understand the context which is that Bloom Into You getting an anime on Crunchyroll and being successful on a more mainstream level really kickstarted a yuri boom that I think we're still living through. The yuri fandom landscape was so, so much different before Bloom Into You.
Personally I find it a solid manga, I liked it, not one of my favorites but I enjoyed it. Many people who read it now will probably wonder why it is held in such high regard. But the fact is, because it had a popular anime on Crunchyroll and was very visible, it helped a lot of people discover yuri, and the modern yuri landscape owes it a lot for that reason.
