and depending on how he (/you, the player) take(s) it, he either jumps straight back in to his heritage-- because where else is he supposed to go? what else is he supposed to do? when he *literally* kills in his sleep? when he aches from defiling every corpse he encounters in a red haze? when his breath stinks with flesh-rot?--

--or he fights back, ties himself up at night, bites his arm instead of his lover, and the Urges just get worse and worse *but he's holding on.*

and I think that, for a resisting durge, when he finds out why everything is the way it is, he's *crushed*-- because is there any hope of escape? any way to redeem himself from the unbelievably cruel being he once was? from something that's inside him, deep as his bones?

the dark urge.... is Such a compelling guy

like. he was Murder Jesus. and then he lost all his memories, no real hope of getting them back--

but his breath still quickens at the sight of blood and his mind still shrieks death when he sees someone lone and vulnerable and his body still twitches when he hears the pained screams of the dying.

and he will never remember how he came to associate this carnal horror, these acts that disgust everyone else he knows, with something Good. and nobody will ever understand-- nobody *can* ever understand-- because he is sculpted from the flesh of Murder's Scion and the blood in his veins *is not his* to control.

wyll who was kidnapped at a young age and raised as a cleric of Tiamat but makes a deal w mizora to escape the cult and kill everyone at the ritual bc he wants to be free. he's young enough that he doesn't know what he's doing is killing everybody and when he realizes he turns tail. he's rather feral and makes no name for himself except perhaps spawns some monster stories of this freak child who lives in the woods.

blend that with the one durge au where durge's brain is so fucked up that he doesn't remember shit, and these two would very quickly become Best Friends,,, "what is a spoon" <- op child cultist and demigod of a lizard

not to mention he's canonically the hottest companion of the origin 6. the handsomest most beautiful sweet lovely man to exist ever forever. each companion has At Least one piece of dialogue in which they go "and also he's gorgeous." astarion, karlach, lae'zel, shadowheart, the list goes on.* the type of outrageously hilarious genuinely kind person that one Simply Must Cherish

*(this is counterbalanced by the fact that they all also immediately follow that statement up with something along the lines of 'but he's too good to be true' [cause it's act one and they don't know him yet] or (lovingly) 'He Is So Cringe')

Wyll is so fucking funny and no amount of acknowledgement about this could ever be enough. He's literally walking around being so casually hilarious completely under-the-radar. He calls Halsin a "thick hunk of an elf". He once accidently implied that he was fucking an ogre instead of killing it and then proceeded to absolutely stumble his way through explaining. He gets excited by Lae'zel talking about carnal pleasures. He canonically tells his pessimistic thoughts to shut the hell up. He volunteers to babysit Shadowheart's hypothetical werewolf babies as long as she gets him gloves. He tries to give Gale a hero moniker like his own. He jokes that his father, the Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate, can't spell. He calls Astarion "Mister Fangs". He makes up storybook chapter names for his own fucking adventures. As a child he got chased by the Flaming Fist for stealing fruit, nearly drowned trying to find mermaids in the harbor, and almost successfully broke into the Counting House. He reads monster erotica, and is not ashamed to tell you about it. He ranks eating pudding among life's greatest moments. He will, without shame and completely unprompted, meow at you. He is 24 years old.

wyll's hit with a curse that transforms him, mentally and physically, into a child for the day.

unfortunately this takes place in an au where not only was wyll pacted at age 14 but also his dad was an incredibly absent Po/S, and everything EA implied about wyll n mizora remains canon. Karlach and Astarion comfort him and solemnly vow to stab the shit out of both Ulder and Mizora next time they see them.

wyll is an aasimar. he does not know this. but when he fights- oh God, some swear he glows. the holy and radiant is always at his beck and call; moonbeams appearing even in darkest light. wyll is an aasimar, and he does not know this. wyll is an aasimar, and zariel doesn't send Mizora to do her dirty work. wyll is an aasimar, and somehow, in the dark amongst the cultists and Tiamat's shining maw, a different presence tangles itself up inside him. and-- wyll does not know this. but on that day, he falls.

(aka I had the stupid ass idea of fallen aasimar wyll who's still convinced he's a Normal Guy and is also pacted to Zariel herself. not that he knows any of this of course)

Wyll Ravengard is the very first time I have genuinely enjoyed a “classical prince” archetype in media since childhood (at least. possibly since forever though, idr.) being romantically-challenged (aroace) myself I just tend to find the trope mildly annoying lol and not terribly engaging much of the time.

but Wyll is special because it’s his fantasy. he holds himself to the image of the archetypical “hero” in fairytales the same way I might hold myself to the image of a benevolent creature in fairytales, to draw strength from in order to be kind and brave. that’s authentic and so very real. he’s not “pretending” because that is who he is inside, but he is, like so many of us, leaning on the values of his beloved stories to guide him. both in striving for good and also in simply having fun.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Psilofyr-- fey pact. instead of a sending stone eye, he gets an eye patch which behind it lies an empty eye socket, replaced w colorful fungus. wyll can see through various fungi using this & is immune to toxins, poisons, etc., while also being able to self regenerate in mild cases. he follows needs of the many doctrine & although he is still himself, his moods can be affected by those of his patrons (his patron moods range from playful to nobly serious to forceful and objective) . he can eat rotting food, and actively prefers it.

as for story beats... maybe like instead of Karlach being who he's compelled to kill, it is Astarion, as Astarion is a "needs of the few" and during the Underdark portion of their adventure, kills many of the Myconids. the transformation he gets as punishment for not killing him is the fungus growing out past his eye patch & his veins becoming more visible w shifting colors

instead of the sending-stone eye, he gets spider fangs in the back of his mouth which secrete a fast acting paralytic & combustible venom & the ability to cast Web at will. arachnids & demonic arachnids that would normally be hostile are neutral, but demons that are not arachnid feel uncomfortable near him & are more likely to become hostile even if unprovoked. he is exclusively a carnivore.

plot changes... hmm,, he still wants to attack Karlach as she is scented very similar to a demon/fiend. it takes a few days for his patron to realize he isn't biding his time to kill her. the transformation as punishment is the growth of new eyes on his face, hardened, shell-like skin plates along his arms and spine, and sharper, clawlike nails
