how do science fiction writers make their settings/verses make sense

i feel like an insane conspiracy board connecting weirdo trying to convince the mass populous that everything is an unintended side affect of a rotting universe machines

“the planet’s core is a computer desk!!!” i scream shakily, “everytime it crashes a part of the solar system dies!!!”

“okay grandma, whatever you say,” my grandkids say as they pull my life support

my space setting is named cosmic catalyst ,

or coscat for short,

it’s a world where the galaxies we live in are the slow turning gears to a dying universal machine. as the cells of the machine breaks down, the energy that is released (planetary plasma) is recorded to be a direct cause of evolution.

instead of letting theirs release slowly, the humans of earth developed a specialized drilling rig to mine this plasma from the surface of the earth’s core, kickstarting a mass evolution in technology (and an early planetary collapse).

the two key developments from this found fuel are:

- body modifications, that vary from aiding people with disabilities to creating super heroes. the first generation of heroes were created in 1998, the last generation were born in 2065.

- interplanetary travel technology made massive leaps. planetary plasma was a type of fuel that allowed for safer launches because it wasn’t a combustible material. it was dubbed “leap fuel” after a test launch sent a robot-manned flight past mars.

i’m not going to go too deep into the mechanics of either, but these advancements allowed for human colonization on mars by 2008. unfortunately since it was headed by america, it started militaristic.

i’m not the biggest science fiction nerd, but i’m starting to ease my way in. the best way i know how is to make characters for this world. ✨ thankfully i’m joined by my partner for it.

clancy dewan, 25/26, cis male — 🇮🇳 / 🇮🇩 / 🇬🇧

once an up and coming pilot for the milky way united’s military, turned runaway space highway man after blowing up earth’s moon accidentally.

his father was a famous astro-archeologist and was among the many people researching how long lost extraterrestrial civilizations worked with planetary plasma. clancy’s mother is a star ship pilot for the milky way united’s military, and her father is a general stationed on some other planet in the galaxy.

his persona is “kid djinn”

using body modifications he received , he channels fire through his body. an artificial vent attached to the small intestine siphons and digests carbohydrates. using an implant in the upper spine, a message is given to bone marrow to produce extra blood. this extra blood passes through an added chamber that turns it into planetary plasma.

carbohydrates + p-plasma are then bound in blood vessels whenever clancy activates the “turn on fire” command. the blue flames shooting out of the vents in his shoulders, biceps, and crown are a result of this.

due to the properties of the p-plasma, the fire is entirely under clancy’s control. when asked about it, he feels like the fire is apart of him. shooting them off to him feels like clipping his nails or cutting his hair.

while clancy is the ship’s captain; olive is the weapon’s master. a nine foot tall bio-android. this is my partner’s oc, we’re still working on ‘em. :-3

i hope it’s obvious that fumihoto’s meant to be a tanooki. i fear my style of doing lines everywhere has a weakness and that is that details i want to emphasize are lost in the sketchiness, like hair color patterning… :(

i’ll keep working on it— one day i’ll be confident in line weight. until then—

i’ll continue making fake menus for my chef oc, in this case it’s a west african + japanese fusion. fumihoto’s travelled across the world to make a flexible menu , so for every country he’s visited, i (and him in world) are making a fusion menu.

so i haven’t made these things personally, i’m mostly piecing together the flavors by memory and visualization?? of the flavors?? does that make sense

anyway so this is a lot of “i think it tastes like x, with texture of y,” etc. etc.

- coconut curry noodles: tbh i got this idea off of a site, but i’m already really familiar with most of these as a guyanese person. the coconut is a mild sweet, and the curry is a funky spice that comes together really well. it’ll soak into the noodles and veggies placed in the dish, green onions for a zang of freshness, and sliced eggs. i’d make it special with tiger eggs tbh.

- pepper stew somen: somen is usually served cold, and a lot of the pepper im thinking of (habanero, scotch, etc) are similar to cayenne, which is the base in gochujang. which is korean, not japanese, but the flavors are too yummy to NOT put in the dish. so this ends up being the nigerian stew served with kimchi cabbage and cold noodles.

- peanut soup ramen: i imagine a warm earthy nutty peanut soup would do well as a cream sauce base for a ramen. maybe some dough dumplings , like a cassava or sweet potato as well to add to texture in the ramen? that might be too much to chew is my issue so i imagine they’d be cut thin like uzumaki fish cookies. enoki mushrooms and thin veggies would go in as well i feel, for color and texture.

everything else on the menu is pretty obvious in flavors , and i’m the most confident in the deserts and bite sides.

the rice platters…. i dunno. i like them i just think i could make a better fusion.

I've recently got overcharged TWICE on my bank account and I'm in the negatives by 20 dollars now. And since it's pending still I can't do anything about it and I'll have to pay a fucking overdraft fee. I will not have enough money for an ESA adoption now and I could use some help. I should have OVER 100 DOLLARS IN MY ACCOUNT to adopt a cat but now I have nothing.

trying to figure out rio tanooki’s design still, i’d like to be consistent among the animal-yokai that have extra limbs. i imagine it’s so that “even in their human forms, the comfort of their wild side” can always be there with an arm extended or walking alongside you.

i’m really into a spiral back set of hands that unroll, compared to yoroi’s, that are wrapped around her arms from around the neck and back.

with yoroi’s new design i feel a ton more confident drawing her compared to how i used to.
