ATV Safety Institute’s ATV Safety Week Set for June 8 through 15

Institute Seeking Additional Partners to Host Educational and Training Events

Free ATV Safety Training Available Throughout the United States

IRVINE, Calif., May 1, 2014 – This summer, for one week (June 8-15), the ATV Safety Institute will be launching ATV Safety Week throughout the country. ASI is seeking additional partners to join the Institute in encouraging riders and their families to become aware, attentive and accountable for ATV safety.

ASI is working with partners all across the country who have volunteered to provide free ATV RiderCourse training during ATV Safety Week. New partners can join the effort by hosting an ATV Safety Event at their local:

School or after-school program

Camp

OHV club

Fair

Community exhibit

Agriculture safety workshop

Volunteer conference

Powersports dealer

Other community events

As a participant, partners will:

Have their event listed on the ATV Safety Week website

Have access to all of the ATV Safety Week graphics and creative elements

Have access to ATV Safety educational materials

Have access to customized ads and news releases specifically for their event

ASI will support each event with information on the website and send participants ATV safety educational materials. ASI also can assist in offering the ATV RiderCourse at no cost, as well as with site selection, course scheduling, registration materials, and completion materials.

If you own a newer Kawasaki you may want to read this.

Kawasaki is recalling about 10,000 off-road motorcycles due to a potential fuel leak between the tank and the fuel tap on certain vehicles that can pose a fire hazard, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall involves 9,978 model year 2010, 2011 and 2012 KLX110 and 110L bikes manufactured by Kawasaki in Thailand and sold by Kawasaki dealers here from November 2009 to January 2014. No injuries have been reported, CPSC stated.

"Affected models are 2010 KLX110CAF/DAF, 2011 KLX110CBF/DBF and 2012 KLX110 CCF/DCF recreational off-highway motorcycles," Kawasaki reported. 

Consumers are being asked to schedule a free repair at their dealership. Dealers will need inspect the bikes and replace the fuel tank and fuel tap O-ring, according to Kawasaki.

Yamaha removes Grizzly 300, three Raptor models from 2014 ATV lineup

Yamaha has confirmed that three Raptor models as well as the Grizzly 300 will not be part of the ATV stable for the 2014 model year.

Yamaha ATV dealers on Sept. 4 received notification from the OEM that the popular Raptor 90, Raptor 125 and Raptor 250, as well as the Grizzly 300 utility ATV, would not be introduced after all for the 2014 model year. Yamaha cited an "unforeseen" vendor issue as the cause and said it was working toward a solution.

Yamaha could provide no further information at press time.

- Ride Off-Road - Always ride on unpaved trails. The tires on ATVs are not made for paved or loose gravel roads. If you drive on these roads, you could lose control of the ATV and flip over or crash.

- Impairment Danger - Driving an ATV takes all of your focus. Alcohol and other drugs can lower your judgment, blur your vision, and slow your reaction time.

- Plan Ahead - Plan your trip before you ride by looking at the area for wire fencing, tree stumps, and other dangers. Let someone know where you are going and when you'll be back.

- Single Rider - Most ATVs are made for one rider only. Drive without passengers.

- Safety Equipment - Ride your ATV only when wearing a helmet, boots, long pants, long sleeve shirt, and gloves.
