So many people posting about the Dragon Age 4 concept art are completely missing this gem.

This guy leaning on his sword, telling some sort of behemoth to give him a minute while he catches his breath is the most Dragon Age nonsense I have ever seen. This is the kinda crap Hawke would pull.

i think all this recent biphobia, mostly directed at bi women in wlw spaces, just shows that building a movement around the idea that a gay person has no choice in being gay, instead of campaigning for all people to have the right to choose who they have sex with and fall in love with, only leads to problems. it means that gay people internalize the idea that a gay identity must have some roots in shame. and it means bisexuals, who are thought to have a choice, can't ever win.

and in the case of wlw, who are already told they should be passive in relationships, this idea that attraction to the same gender is only okay if its not something we can choose, fosters a fear around actually acting on our attraction to women. it means that bi women are seen as predatory or 'fetishizing wlw' bc we must actively choose to pursue women in a way lesbians cant, our attraction is thought of as more sexual and having an intent.

it means a bi woman who must, of course, actively pursue men out of choice, is more likely to be blamed for any harm they may face from their partner. a straight woman just didn't have the option, but bi women should have just chosen not to date men.

this line of thinking ultimately is extremely damaging, not just for bi women. it means that all wlw internalise the idea that its not okay to actively enjoy pursuing relationships with, or expressing sexual attraction to other women. online wlw spaces are desexualised and theres a general avoidance around talking about relationships btwn women in anything other than in terms of softness or pure love.

it means that any wlw - not just bi women - who actively pursues women has to struggle with feeling - or being made to feel - predatory. and this culture in wlw spaces does nothing to help lesbians and bi women work through their internalised homophobia. it means that the anxieties shared in these spaces are often projected onto bisexual women, who are thought to have a choice in our pursuit of women.

holding onto shame doesn't help, projecting insecurities onto others won't make those insecurities go away, drawing a line around what counts as attraction to women won't normalize it for you, if anything it does the opposite, neither will pushing out bi women who don't exclusively date women. if there is a wrong way to love women, there will always be anxiety around having to prove you are loving women the right way. the answer, in my opinion, is to celebrate genuine attraction and healthy relationships of all types, to let people choose. and to let women express and celebrate their attraction to any gender, yes even attraction to men, we shouldnt have to minimise one aspect of our attraction in order for another to be taken seriously; the cishet world already does enough of that & we don't need to copy them. We need to foster an environment where attraction to, and pursuing relationships with, women is completely normal, so wlw dont need to justify or prove our attraction to women before we can celebrate it.

2020 mood.

Here’s something cute

When lockdown happened in the UK it happened very suddenly. At the law firm I work at, our office building emptied overnight when everyone was told to work from home. No time to clear our desks, no time to bring office plants home.

Fast forward three and a half months - everyone assumes that their plants are dead.

But then! An email goes round! It’s turns out that one of our security guards is a florist, and -

-the security team has moved EVERY SINGLE PLANT from all 12 FLOORS of our office building into the cafeteria. It’s been turned into a temporary greenhouse. Cacti and succulents and spider plants and terrariums and potted ferns

AND! Each plant has been INDIVIDUALLY LABELLED by hand with post-it notes with name and desk location so the plants can go home after lockdown ends

To give some indication of the scale of the endeavour:

The plants are being taken care of tenderly. They get sun and water and are spending happy times with other plant friends
