Disassemble Your Furniture Before Moving
It's no secret that the home moving process is rather expensive, so while you're getting ready to move, you should definitely take advantage of any and all opportunities to save money.
You should now be aware of the top three methods for lowering moving costs:
1) hire a low-cost moving company
2) move only the items you intend to use in the future
3) pack whatever you can yourself so you don't have to hire (read: pay) professional packers to do it for you.
Another cost-cutting strategy is to disassemble large furniture pieces before moving. This way, you won't have to pay your movers extra for the furniture disassembly service.
Make a moving plan. The first step in moving preparation is to create a moving checklist. As a result, you won't forget anything when organizing. You can also download an already prepared checklist and follow the instructions. Along with the to-do list, make an inventory list of all the items you want to bring with you. The inventory list can be very useful when disassembling furniture because it will help you make a better judgement of how many things you have, how big they are, do they have many parts, and so on.
Read the instructions. Knowing the splitting points of furniture makes disassembling it for a move much easier. They could be visible or hidden. So, start by reading the disassembly instructions. If you threw them out or simply can't find them, you can always search online. Unless your furniture is from another century, you have a good chance of finding it online. Perhaps the manufacturer has them posted on his website. If that doesn't work, go back to the store where you purchased the item and ask for help.
Gather the necessary tools. The proper tools are an essential part of the furniture disassembly process. You won't need professional tools, but you will need some basic ones, such as a hammer and a screwdriver. If you don't have the necessary tools, the task will be impossible to complete, so make sure you're ready. If you do not have them, you can borrow them from a friend. While you're at it, invite them to assist with the disassembling as well.
Furniture disassembly tools required: Hammer\sPliers Allen / Hex Keys A wrench set screwdrivers or a drill Spanners Sharpies and Ziplock bags a rubber mallet Painter's tape
Ask for assistance. If you don't know how to assemble and disassemble furniture, you can ask your removalists for help. Otherwise, seek the advice of a knowledgeable friend. Maybe even two. Depending on the size of the job. Chances are, they'll come prepared with everything you'll need. Some of your friends may even have special tools designed for a specific type of furniture.
Investigate the situation Begin by evaluating each piece of furniture before disassembling it. Make sure you know how to disassemble it, how to reassemble it, and how to store the small parts so you don't lose them. Also, before disassembling anything, inspect the furniture installations. Using a sharpie, label all the parts of your furniture. Taking pictures of the furniture while it is being disassembled will also assist you in putting it back together. Pay close attention to how the joints are connected, how the hinges are installed, and how all of the pieces are assembled. If you notice any labels on them, photograph them as well to help you with the assembly later.
Measure the furniture After you've evaluated the items, make sure to measure them one by one. As a result, you'll need to decide whether or not to disassemble the piece. Remember that if the item is small and fits through your doors and hallways, it will also fit into the moving truck without needing to be disassembled. So, why complicate your life?
Actual furniture disassembly Sofa legs, beds, and bookshelves are typically simple to disassemble. However, some pieces require more attention and may have furniture covering the disassembling points. So, before you begin, make sure you know where these points are and pay special attention to them. After you've located the desired point, carefully disassemble each piece and place the smaller items in the ziplock bag.
