The reveal of Luthen Rael's backstory casts his whole character in a new and really interesting light. His motivations are complex and still cannot be pinned down as one single thing, but it matters that we are shown what the Empire took from him, and it isn't a friend or a family or a home, it's himself. In the traumatic moment that forced him to turn his life around, he was on the side of the perpetrators.
There's only one conclusion: I'm damned for what I do. He's been damned long before he started fighting back and he knows it, he's damned so he might as well go all out. I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. That's true no matter what he does, since he himself was one of the tools of that enemy. I burn my decency for someone else's future. He does, but his decency, his ability to think of himself as a decent person, was among the first things the Empire took from him. He's not fighting to reclaim it, he's not fighting to redeem himself. He says, if the Empire turned me into a person who sends out others to kill and then sits back listening to the shots and the screaming, well, I'll continue to be that person. The Empire taught me not to care, so I won't. The willingness to fight the Empire comes from Luthen's own moral core and from Kleya's influence, but the capacity to do it, the capacity to do what must be done, comes from the Empire itself.

when i first heard about the male loneliness epidemic i was like oh yeah close camaraderie and bonding between men is often discouraged in favor of competition or, if not discouraged, at least filtered through a lens of individualism that precludes deep connections. and then i learned what people meant by it (men arent getting laid) to which i say skill issue

Now that I’ve had a few months to let it marinate, Life and Death’s ending is so utterly heartbreaking. I honestly loved it I think it’s more realistic than the main universe ending but it’s still so sad.

"New Yorkers bite more people than sharks annually" is an excellent example of how statistics can be misleading. Like yeah no shit, do you have any idea how rare it is to even encounter a shark in the wild? They're not exactly urban animals. I'm pretty damn sure that if sharks were living in big cities like pigeons, just strolling down the streets looking for food scraps, you'd see a lot more news stories about New Yorkers biting them.

Ancient Sumerians: that trans girl is so pretty... I need her to bear my children. Maybe we should make her a priestess so the goddess may decide to make her fertile.
Lesbians today: that trans girl s so pretty... I need to breed her. If I keep railing her gay ass she definitely will get pregnant.
conclusion: lesbians are late Sumerian fertility goddesses

gender essentialism is soooo funny bc it's like "this is what women are like" and you're like "I've met women and many of them, if not the majority, have not been like that" and it's like "well women SHOULD be like that" and you're like "why should women be like that" and its like "because that's what women are like"

It’s wild to me to see transvestigator conspiracy theories online that could be so easily explained by natural human variation. That woman has a deep voice? Yeah, sometimes they do. A woman has broad shoulders?? Maybe she plays rugby or hits the gym a fuckton. There’s a “bulge” in her tight pants?? Maybe her vulva is just fat. All the “markers” of trans woman that transvestigators use to harass any woman aren’t even things unique to trans women.
