Death Stranding 2: Episode 3 part 2

Yesterday's theme was roads! Because who needs therapy when there are metals and ceramics to collect and roads to rebuild?
Some spoilers under cut, most of it's just gameplay.

Seriously, so many roads. And an auto drive mode for vehicles! It's actually really nice with the cinematic camera option and music mode on, even tho it's limited to non-boost speeds.
I told myself I was gonna play casually but no. I had to build ALL the roads. there were a couple pavers going up by Lone Commander that hadnt been touched by contributions so I scoured all the materials I could to build them (then West Fort Knot mentioned supply problems oops). And then I ran out. And theeeeeeen I realised the Magellan had a storage locker and could hop back to Mexico...
So, yeah, I went and 5/5 all of mexico and took all there metals and ceramics. Took a while, the new truck seems to have a slightly smaller cargo capacity, plus I'm currently limited to small quanity containers. But I ended up with enough for so many pavers.

I may biased but The Artist is my favourite prepper. I LOVE that Death Stranding is an apocalyptic setting but there's so many creative people thriving. It's such an important part of human connection.
So, facilities all seem to have little stories with them which I love. They keep you updated on how things are improving with the work you've done for them. And they all want to shower Sam with so much gratitude and care and augh I just love how much they all care. Especially the absolute hell Sam is going through. idk get loved, idiot.
HOWEVER. THERE'S NO MORE STAR STICKERS!!!! I 5/5'D YOUR FACILITY GIVE ME A FUCKING STAR STICKER HOLY SHIIIIIIIT I DONT WANT YOUR USELESS COSMETICS I WANT THE OTHER USELESS COSMETIC!!!!!

better news, freelance porters are back!!!!! yay!!!! They're still a joy to see and I know at some point I'm going to end up smoking one with a truck because the sun blinds you whenever you leave the distro.
I've been having fun swinging around electro sticks at bandits and brigands but in the back of my head is still, the stick drives us apart, I'm supposed to be the rope bringing us together. but no. I look at the walking sticks the freelancers have (which I also want, dammit), and like, the stick asserts individuality. here's it's a mobility aid, and aren't those great for giving people independence and ability to move around??? idk I'm just really hoping the game will ultimately be about balance between rope and stick. The rope can bind and strangle, after all.

Still not sure about my boss being cartoon naked professor xavier with a dash of handsome squidward.

Monorail!

me: "is it bad that I want to lick the tar hand stub"
cat: [licks the stub]

I feel like my tendency to avoid the private room and letting Sam stay at peak grubby and grimey really played into this scene. Here's a cute lady frolicking amongst pretty plants and birds and then she runs from Mr Stealth KO'd 20 Brigands who is building roads onstop to escape turbo trauma.
I just hit Episode 4 last night and I have a terrible suspicion that I'm about to be caught in a wildfire so. fun!

Death Stranding 2: Episode 3 pt 1

Hello Australia! Feels similar to the first game in which we're getting to the meat of things and spending the most time. Spoilers under cut!

Who needs therapy when you can go portering again. Met some of the Magellan crew. I want to know more about the kitty. Tarman and Dollman are both likeable.

Goodbye Mexico, hello Australia. The Plate Gate sequence was neat and I see we have the 5 entities showing up again. Happy that Sam gets to keep his pants while going through.

More meet & greets. I don't like where the UCA has gone with letting APAC/APAS/whatever lead. Privately owned AI compay analysing the will of the people to determine government... feels a little musky. kojimbo predicted the future again. I don't like the President guy, especially since he seems to have an antagonistic role in the BB flashbacks. Same fucked up teeth past and present.
Charlie offering to take the voice of one of the previous cast was such a fuck off move, like, I saw them in the opening credits and thought we'd see them all again but NO!!!! Charlie is taking their voice. "A voice you can trust." Makes me wonder if Heartman's appearance in the trailer was actually Heartman or Charlie. Anyway, I chose Die Hardman because, well, familiarity being called up all the time lol. I do love Charlie's facial animations and his sparkle-smile.

Dollman grew on me instantly. It's like everyone knows Sam is grieving so badly and are like, hey, need a therapist buddy? he seems to be genuinely looking out for Sam. Spino is very suspicious but im like HE'S JUST A LIttlE GUY YOU CAN HOLD HIM AND THROW HIM AND HE WONT COMPLAIN IF YOU MAKE HIS SUIT BRIGHT YELLOW
Oh yeah, new BB flashbacks. Seems to be a shoot out / escape struggle like with Cliff before. Based on what I know from trailer, it seems like Niel's POV? But also how does this reflect Other Lou I don't knoowww

I don't like Australian BTs. Of course they are extra trying to kill you. Found out later that these types can see, and their eyes GLOW big time when they lock onto you. I don't think they can see very far though. Easy to take them out with grenades, but sucks to get caught by them.
Giving all the structures extra active abilities was neat. When I read that shelters had an active BT repellent I was expecting a golden shower but glad that it's blood.

Liked the first few preppers. Seems they are recovering from a recent armed conflict and their rhetoric "we're all australians, we should come together not fight" felt very Aldiirn. I've been noting some of the slang they use so I can sprinkle it into Aldiirn's dialogue haha.

I've spent so much time puttering around with roads and standard orders. Poor Fragile is like, Sam, please, take care of your mental health, rest and talk to people. And I'm like, who needs therapy when you have ROADS.
I've been making a lot of use of the trike as you can tell, but since I got floating carriers recently I think I'll take those to build some more roads. I've turned into one of those people who has to build them from offline. There's a bunch going by Lone Commander that don't go anywhere useful yet, but I'm gonna fukkin build them.
Still figuring out the new weapons in game. The melee stick is fun if you're not getting shot at. Strand is still king for stealth, but I got a silenced tranq pistol that's fun too. Also a sniper rifle, but it's loud and alerts everyone so you basically get one shot off and gotta run. Preppers suggest strategies so I'll have to try following some of the combos to make best use.

Got a big welcome party at the city and an old friend showed up! with a big new friend!!!! Functioned similarly to a catcher fight except with multiple weak points to disable its functions, it was pretty fun but my aim suuuuucks.
By this point I hadn't noticed that Other Lou has a stress bar, it shows up with icons that go from ☹️ to 🙂 to 😄 with the current state highlighted. It took me a while to realise and for a while I thought Other Lou just didn't get an equivalent to autotoxemia because, well, BT baby. but after the battle I looked and was like "Uh. What's Tentacle mean?"

Sam. baby. i think your baby is sick.

and then dance party! yay! The music player is nice though if you can use multiple playlists I can't figure out how to switch. I'm pretty sure Dollman is using the likeness of the music artist for most of it but maybe his original appearance for that last shot? It's so silly but it was really endearing so see Sam bopping along in the background.
Anywho not done Episode 3 yet, but I am determined to keep working Standard Orders and build some roads before proceeding. I'm kinda itching to go back to Mexico to trying and 5/5 people there but I think I'll wait until I unlock trucks.

Death Stranding 2: Episode 2
It was like 5min long but gutted me. Spoilers under cut.

I knew shit would happen to Lou because of the trailers but shit. Sam's state afterwards was brutal. Fragile being like "stop hurting yourself" was gutting. Here's Sam, a guy who I already believe was suicidal pre-DS1 but he can't die, loading bullets into his head because what else is he gonna do. He's lost his kid like 2-3 times now. fuck.

I'm willing to bet the grey hair is just from repatriating a bajillion times. Kinda hope we get the option of leaving it grey later instead of whatever that spray can was.

and now we have Other BB? We saw a BT baby climb in the pod and Sam treats it like Lou, but others act like the pod is empty and Sam is handling grief that badly.
Given Deadman mentioning that the designation BB28 had been given to another BB decommissioned 4 years before our Lou, I want to think that this is the other BB. BBs being not quite dead, not quite alive, here's the BB28 that died and the other BB28 that lived.

Death Stranding 2: Episode 1

Gonna post my thoughts and stuff because you can only play a game for the first time once! Spoilers beyond the cut.
Overall first impressions are FANTASTIC, they really streamlined all the order menus so it's less of a pain in the ass to fabricate and recycle. Pretty much all the difficulty I've had is because of muscle memory from the first game, like the crouch/sneak button is now punch, and you can imagine how that's fucked me up.

The opening sequence scene is set to Woodkid's Minus Sixty One and is gorgeous uugghhh. Like damn this game is crispy. It did feel oddly high stakes though because you're put on this high ridge and the first stumble made me realise Lou isn't protected by the pod anymore so OH NO PROTECC BABY

dad sam is adorable Fragile comes along and brings the plot: connect mexico pretty pretty please. Sam says sure but she has to babysit.

Ran into some MULEs "Bandits" and WE CAN USE THE JOLTY STICKS NOW??? I am delighted and they are very fun though I do feel a little guilty about abandoning the previous game's rope mantra.
Didn't get any screencaps but the dust storm and lightning was scary. I don't know if it's just a random chance to get zapped and die or what and I dont want to find out.

Mexico is pretty. Became fairly obvious that this is the new Eastern Region but it moves a lot faster and I think the layout being a loop rather than linear will make it nicer when returning for Standard Orders. Which I thought might be entirely replaced by Aid Requests because it took until episode 3 for them to show up.
I'm not 100% fond of the day/night cycle because I'm a grouch and want to be able to see things. It does make for pretty lighting at sunrise/set and settlements look neat.

Friends? Not friends! I was watching them hauling away a piece of cargo, they didn't mind me until I stepped on one and then the horde came after me afhdsjfds

New vehicles are nice, they still got their idiosyncrasies but handle better and can climb more. Also, cargo will now take damage from impacts, which means I have to unlearn the habit of slamming into prepper shelters when stopping by. 8')

The colour suddenly turned grey while I was searching for a prepper bunker and I was convinced that it was a holographic effect but turns out it's just "you're leaving the map" kind of effect

"I don't like this... dont like this guy... DON'T LIKE THIS GUY"
New catcher is horrifying but I think they still suffer from the same DS1 thing of being giant bags of HP. The hoover attack is terrifying tho just like aaaaa find something to stick to or pray you can shoot it while you're being dragged in.

I had a feeling about deadman from the trailers and it was still sad :C And that he gifts vaccines to lou!!! like augh! "how big will she get!" oh he was so invested in giving her the best chances in life even if he wasnt gonna be there. im cry.

Amused that the BB pod props are the Like edition (left) sold on the Kojipro store and the original Collector's edition (right). Fun attention to detail.

fuck these guys????? didn't wanna deal so I snuck past them all

FUCK THESE GUYS
