When these two first met, their first impressions of each other were...not that great.
But believe me when I say it only gets worse as time goes on…
Both of them are ‘Lionhearted Hunters’ that think quite highly of themselves, but with their personalities being drastically different from each other, it was inevitable for their relationship to be rocky.
Clayton sees Gaston as an overcompensating moron, and NOT a worthy hunter. He constantly brags about all the animals he’s killed, he is extremely ‘unprofessional’, he’s outdated with his hunting methods (almost 100 years behind in his methods…) and worst of all… He isn’t even profiting off of it as much as he could be… He could be selling these animals for christ sake! But instead, he’s killing every one of them for decorations… It’s WASTEFUL!
Gaston, on the other hand, saw Clayton as a “wannabe”, and NOT a worthy hunter. He doesn’t have the ‘drive’ like Gaston, He isn’t built like Gaston, He’s not handsome like Gaston, and he doesn’t even TRY! That’s the worst of it... He’s had multiple chances to hunt savage beasts, but instead, he tries to sell them off for a quick buck!... It’s COWARDLY!
The two of them have completely conflicting ideas on what it means to be a hunter, and this leads into so many arguments between the two, both of them trying to one up the other. (More frequently instigated by Gaston… But Clayton does occasionally start…)
(I could somewhat see them both subconsciously viewing the other as a rival, although both of them argue that “He’s nowhere on my level!”)
This gets on almost everyone’s nerves in the Valley… For example, Say you're at Chez Remy’s, trying to enjoy your food, while Clayton is eating his food at another table. (It probably took some convincing to have him eat food served by a “Filthy Rat”). But then, suddenly, Gaston walks in, and immediately after seeing Clayton, starts to brag to the whole restaurant about his “adventures” and his “heroics” to prove to Clayton that he is the better hunter… probably leading to everyone else walking out of the restaurant,
Another example: Gaston is rambling about how great he is to another villager. (Most likely Belle or the Player…), when suddenly, Clayton overhears him, walks up to him, looks him dead in the eye, and tells him he’s a novice. Clayton then proceeds to tell him, and the poor soul Gaston was previously harassing, the “professional” way to do it, while also making more money than Gaston would’ve made with his “derivative methods”.
This goes on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on…
… and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on…
… and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on…
Until someone else snaps, causing The Player to go on another fun, exciting quest!, as they have to talk to these two man babies out of arguing with each other yet again… Only after they are both giving death glares from The Player do they both stop… for now…
All it takes is one push… and they are both bickering once again…
Overall:
1.5 / 10
(There is still a sliver of respect for the other, with them both being hunters… too bad that the other sucks at it…)
I'm playing Dreamlight Valley. On the surface, it's a lot like Disney version of Animal Crossing. Except - it's not. It has a plot. And - mysteries. And, it's pretty effing deep - emotionally.
It gave me a warning that what I was about to experience was going to be emotional and that I should be ready for it, and if not - to back out of this section and come back when I was. I cried. I full on cried - in a really good healing sort of way. And I've only done 1/3 of that section of the game. I had to get out and process what I'd experience before continuing. Holy crap, I've never had a game impact me like this. Even with the warning, I was not expecting THIS.
I am in AWE of the writers of this game. AWE! What they have done, the plot - everything - is good. It is super fun to hang out with all these characters. Plus, you get - emotional healing. If you are thinking about playing it - get it.
I'm curious about how younger people are reacting to this. I'm an aging adult GenX gamer. So - I'm assuming it's hitting me differently than someone else who is closer to experiencing what is in this plot.
It said that Minnie likes halloween. And now I have this mental image that she really does love horror movies. Yes, even the really scary and gory ones.
Muse (my player character name) Minnie, Mike, Sulley, and Jack having a horror movie night.
By the end of the night everyone but Jack and Minnie just have this stare into the void look on their faces.
Minnie: Oh no, did I go too far with the movies?
Muse: no, no. It's fine.
Muse later...
Muse: Yeah hey, can someone walk me back to my house? No reason.
me, watching Jack Skellington get excited and wave every time Elsa gets within 5 feet of him: 2013 tumblr would have gone HAM with this game....I am going ham with this game.....
I'm not a big fan of Wreck-It-Ralph (and I'm dreading watching the sequel since I heard it's... not very good...) but Vanellope's realtionship with Sulley in DDV is so frickin' sweet omg.
If they add certain franchises to the game, where it ends with characters going their separate ways, and have the game take place after the ending of the film or show...
Am I going to have to sit through some of the most touching and heartwarming reunions?
