Internet safety and grooming on tumblr, a psa for those under 18.

Tumblr is full of other young people and it's easy to find people with the same interests as you, sometimes an adult will message you in a non sexual way and try to be your friend. This is how grooming starts.

When you are being groomed theres an adult messaging you trying to be ur friend, they are trying to gain your trust and get close to you, it will seem innocent. Most grooming starts out looking completely non sexual (a point i want to really bring attention to)

Grooming can also be done for non sexual reasons (you can be groomed into a cult, extremism, religion, gang, ECT)

The safest course of action is to not respond to anyone messaging you who you have reason or suspicion to believe is an adult.

Remember adults can lie about their age and these people a lot of the time will, they may use fake photos of children from the Internet and pretend that that's them.

If you feel you may be being groomed or have been, and are still a Minor please speak to a trusted adult, a parent or carer, a school official, a family member, or even childline.

I know Tumblr seems like a great place to make friends with the same interests who are also your age, and it can be, but its also a dangerous place on the Internet, with people who seem innocent and kind but have bad intentions.

I was 14 on Tumblr when I started to be groomed by an adult on this app, i thought they were just my friend, they were good at manipulating me and acting like a good person.
