Reflective Essay by Michael Sulu:
As the beginning of the fall semester, I didn’t have no broader idea about the meaningful concept about art, but now i have come to understand more about art, and it’s importance on our daily life and the world around us.
With the help of professor Tonya efforts in teaching the Art Appreciation class this semester, it has opened up my minds on every characteristics of artworks, and how art it has played a significant role in our society today.
Some of this characteristics in which I’m taking with me from the Art Appreciation is as follow: my daily living is art, the car that I drive is art, the road that I drive my car on is art, the clothes that I’m wearing is art, the images that I see or have in my home are artworks. I didn’t have those concepts before. Even when I was a kid, i did not know drawing on the ground was a artwork too, I didn’t know it, until taking this class this semester. This class has make me to better understand the history on art about decades ago which I didn’t know before. I came to realize that, based on artwork those that die sixty to seventy years ago are still remembered through artwork. For instance, the memorial monument in Washington DC, which was built by Mayalin. If it wasn’t this art class, I wouldn’t have known all of this.

“A basic distinction is between sculpture in the round, free-standing sculpture, such as statues, not attached (except possibly at the base) to any other surface, and the various types of relief, which are at least partly attached to a background surface.
