Fruits Basket is actually a pretty fire manga when you consider that it portrayed a perfect picture of people stuck in a situation not of their choosing, who were both victims and perpetrators in their own way but all trapped and hurting, needing an outsider to approach them with kindness and acceptance and love for their current state who still very much did not want them to suffer under the effects of that vicious cycle. Sometimes you need to look beyond your own self to find freedom and healing (the zodiacs), and maybe by serving others can you be reminded that you yourself are just as precious as well (Tohru). Maybe all you need to escape the cycle of suffering is to look beyond yourself and listen, maybe you need a bit of space with the knowledge that you aren't isolated, and maybe sometimes you need that something beyond yourself to reach out to you and never let you go.

So, I was bored and decided to rank the kiddads ships by obscurity based on number of ao3 fics, and in some instances how many fics were written by a single author, and the results fascinate me

Nark, with 472 fics. Not surprising there, it's the most popular ship on dndads ao3

Lovesong, oddly enough, with a MUCH smaller 48 fics. Literally 10% than what Nark has

Terrick with 49 fics. One more than Lovesong, but Lovesong had a much wider variety of authors, while one author (me) wrote almost 40% of terrick fics (I would know, I counted), and they were VERY close in fic count

Glark, with 45 fics

Granterry, which I thought would be much higher on this list, with 35 fics

Spant, with 33 fics. Very close to Granterry but had more fics written by the same two authors than the granterry, as well as less fics

Nicky/Grant, a ship so rare that I don't know it's name, had 26 fics. 5% of what Nark has

Terrow, with 18 fics. They deserve better

And the rarest kiddad ship, somehow, is Guncontrol, with a tiny 9 fics. This is so strange to me, I could've sworn they were more popular

Honestly, the main take away I got from this is that to maintain balance in the ecosystem, people really need to branch out from Nark and into more of the kiddads ships because dear god, it outclasses all of them by 10x the amount of fics minimum. The rest of our boys are starving here
