āI donāt care if she deserves someone just as sweet as she is. I want her chained to me, and Iāll rip out the throat of anyone who thinks they can take her away.ā
This has got to be the best reimagining of the Dracula mythology (this film is focused on the bride aspect) Iāve seen in mainstream media. Edit: ok i realise I haveĀ āspoiledā that itās a Dracula retelling, my apologies, but I have not spoiled - and will not spoil - any of the big reveals in this film that were not included in the trailer.
Is it canon-faithful? Nope.Ā
Do some of the name-drops get the shaft? ā¦yeah, and iām very sorry to say that. Still, not the worst portrayals Iāve seen of these characters (Lucy was actually likable this time around, though! Soā¦ thereās that win!)
Did I snort-laugh extremely loud when finding out it was set at Carfax Abbey? YEP.Ā
But wowā¦ they finally fucking did itā¦ they brought back what makes Dracula so terrifying as a villain, particularly to women.Ā
And thatās all I say but for now.. yeah, I do recommend this. Just donāt go in expecting to see the novel because unfortunately weāre not there yet. But this was promoted as a reimagining so that doesnāt bother me that much. Also it was one hell of a ride so even if you donāt like it as a Dracula adaptation, you might find it entertaining as a vampire-horror film.Ā
I give this 4/5 stars (the ending was a bit rushed imo)
