We don't talk enough about how in S3E6 (herogasm) homelander straight up tried to kill butcher. No more toying with him by saving him from an explosion or kidnapping his wife or showing up at his house or other unconventional forms of torture, just straight up lasered his ass—without knowing he was on temp v, meaning he genuinely thought he was gonna kil him.

Robert Evans, Behind the Bastards, "Part Three: The Pol Pot Episodes: How a Nice, Quiet Kid Murdered His Country"
He's referring to Malcolm Caldwell here, a journalist who went to Cambodia after being invited by Pol Pot, who was ruling Cambodia at the time. Caldwell was naively under the impression that Pol Pot was actually the good guy and that the CIA and US govt were just being corrupt and pushing anti-socialist propaganda, as always. While in Cambodia with other invited journalists, he willfully ignored several warning signs, sticking to his idea of Pol Pot working Cambodia towards some sort of socialist utopia. Mere hours after meeting Pol Pot, Caldwell was killed by the Khmer Rouge.
