Eight Things That Don't Make Sense in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"

Eight Things That Don't Make Sense in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"
Have you ever watched the Harry Potter movies and gotten irritated by some of their plot holes? Surely we’ve all been there. There are certain things in the story that don’t make sense.
We decided to make a little project and find all the illogical things in each part of the series. We’ve already published the first part, and now let’s move on to the Chamber of Secrets.
1. The Dursleys trying to prevent Harry from going to Hogwarts
We understand Harry caused a lot of trouble to his relatives, who simply wanted to live a normal, happy life. Also, their nephew spending as much time at Hogwarts as possible would be much more preferable for the Dursleys. In that case, they wouldn’t put bars on his windows so he couldn’t leave their house. On the contrary, they’d impatiently wait for September 1st instead to get rid of Harry and not see him for the next 10 months. Ultimately, their actions seem a little irrational.
Uncle Vernon is putting bars on Harry’s window.
2. Knockturn Alley
As we learn in the second part of the story, Knockturn Alley is quite a dangerous place that shouldn’t be visited by normal wizards, let alone kids without adults. These shops should have been situated somewhere else, a secret place for dark wizards only. So why is it situated right in Diagon Alley, full of unsupervised children? It’s like having a weapon or a drug store in the middle of a shopping mall. It simply makes no sense. Why hasn’t the Ministry of Magic done something about this?
Harry gets lost in Knockturn Alley.
3. Harry and Ron going to Hogwarts using the Ford Anglia
Sure, it was a fun adventure for two friends. But why didn’t they simply wait for the Weasleys to get back from the station so they could find a better solution to their problem? We understand that they were 12-year-old boys, and you can’t expect many wise decisions from them, but still waiting for Ron’s parents in this situation would have been the smartest thing to do.
Harry and Ron fly the Ford Anglia to Hogwarts.
4. Dumbledore hiring Lockhart
Gilderoy Lockhart was the most incompetent teacher at Hogwarts. Even the Death Eater Barty Crouch Jr. was doing a much better job at teaching. So why on Earth would Dumbledore hire him? There is a theory among fans that since the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts was cursed, people didn’t want to risk their lives and apply for the job, so there was pretty much no other option. Another theory, or a meme, to be more precise, claims that Dumbledore saw Lockhart and thought hiring him would be a hilarious idea.
Lockhart instructs Hogwarts students at the Dueling Club.
5. Not closing Hogwarts
When the Chamber of Secrets was opened again and Colin Creevey was petrified, the most rational thing to do would be to close Hogwarts because the last time the Chamber was opened, things ended badly. But instead, Dumbledore simply added some restrictions which, let’s be fair, were not helpful at all.
Harry and Filch stand beneath a message that the Chamber of Secrets has been opened.
6. Hagrid sending Harry and Ron to Aragog
Well, to be fair, this one perfectly made sense, at least to Hagrid, who probably trusted his “pets” much more than he did himself. However, Aragog always told Hagrid he was the only human being he or his offspring would not harm. So, sending Harry and Ron straight to the spider’s lair was reckless, even for Rubeus.
Harry and Ron meet Aragog in the Forbidden Forest.
7. No one asking Moaning Myrtle about her death
This is probably the biggest plot hole in the whole series. When the Chamber of Secrets was opened the second time, why did no one think of asking Myrtle about how she died? She was a living (well, sort of living) victim of the crime, and her story would have helped to find out what happened 50 years ago. However, it seems like a bunch of 12-year-old kids were smarter and more logical than the adults, and were the only ones who managed to solve the case.
Moaning Myrtle tells the story of how she died in the bathroom she haunts.
8. Harry and Ron not asking for help from teachers
In Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry and his friends didn’t have much choice but to fight Quirrel on their own because McGonagall didn’t believe their warning. But in this part, their heroism doesn’t make sense. Instead of asking for help from their teachers, they decided to save Ginny themselves, taking the most useless person with them – Gilderoy Lockhart. Why didn’t they go straight to McGonagall, Flitwick, or even Snape? They would have handled the situation much better than Gilderoy.
Harry, Ron, and Lockhart enter the Chamber of Secrets.
Let us know in the comments which scene was the most illogical according to you!

Seven Things That Don't Make Sense in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"

Seven Things That Don't Make Sense in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban"
Every story has plot holes, as throughout time, fans always start asking questions regarding some situations in the story and realize that many things don’t really make sense. The Harry Potter series is no exception, so that’s why we decided to explore all the strange and illogical things in each part of the saga.
We’ve already covered the first two parts, and now let’s move on to The Prisoner of Azkaban. Even though it is the fan-favorite book and movie in the series, it also has some unexplainable moments. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
1. Harry making magic at home
What’s the most important rule in the wizarding world? Right, no magic outside of Hogwarts. However, Harry, or to be more precise, the director of the movie, decided to ignore that rule and start the movie with this big plot hole. Yes, the scene looks cool, but accountability is far more important than setting a magical atmosphere, right?
Harry learns a new spell while at Privet Drive.
2. Permission for Hogsmeade
Actually, this would make sense, but only in one case: if students also had to have permissions for other far more dangerous activities as well, like playing Quidditch, joining the Dueling Club, or entering the Triwizard Tournament. Moreover, visiting Hogsmeade is probably the most harmless and safest thing to do. Even simple lessons at Hogwarts can be more hazardous than going to a peaceful village, visiting shops, and cafes.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit Hogsmeade.
3. Dementors guarding Hogwarts
Remember Dumbledore’s speech at the welcoming feast? “Dementors are vicious creatures. They will not distinguish between the one they hunt and the one who gets in their way.” So why were these vicious creatures guarding Hogwarts, full of hundreds of mischievous and playful kids? Any single one of them could have been hurt by these ruthless guards. Dementors in general raise a lot of questions. Why did the Ministry of Magic think that they were the best safekeepers? Couldn’t other wizards guard Azkaban or Hogwarts?
Dementors guard Hogwarts during Harry’s third year.
4. Students drinking alcohol
As we mentioned before, Hogsmeade is quite a safe place. But there’s one big “but”. Why were students allowed to freely drink Butterbeer or even Firewhisky? Weren’t there other, more appropriate activities for kids and teenagers? Or at least non-alcoholic beverages so that students can have a good time at the Three Broomsticks but not get drunk? Not that there were any cases described of someone being intoxicated, but still, we believe that this doesn’t make sense.
Hermione drinks Butterbeer
5. Harry seeing Peter Pettigrew on the map
Those who read the book know that this scene wasn’t in the original. So, the question goes to the director of the movie again. If Harry saw Pettigrew’s name on the Marauder’s Map, it means that Fred and George must have seen it too. In that case, wouldn’t they be curious about this guy named Peter who is constantly hanging out with Ron and even sleeping in his bed? Though we have to admit that this scene was very mysterious and tense in a good way. And fans could have accepted this moment if they had gotten a reasonable explanation as to why Pettigrew suddenly appeared on the map.
Peter Pettigrew’s name appears on the Marauder’s Map.
6. Time-Turner
And last, but not least, we have reached the most illogical magical artifact: the Time-Turner. There are many questions related to it. First of all, why did the Ministry of Magic think that it was okay to give a time-turner to a 13-year-old girl, even if she’s very smart and diligent? Haven’t they thought that Hermione could have used it wrong, and something bad could have happened to her or anyone else? Second, why did no one use it before or after Prisoner of Azkaban to prevent some horrible things from happening? For instance, the death of Harry’s parents and Cedric, or the return of Voldemort in Goblet of Fire? Again, there could at least be an explanation that would fix this plot hole. Something about the Time-Turner not being able to prevent the death of human beings, or that it was invented after James and Lily’s deaths. Even in this case, it still raises a lot of questions.
Harry and Hermione go back in time to rescue Sirius and Buckbeak.
Did you pick up on these strange moments in Prisoner of Azkaban the first time you read the book or watched the film? Let us know in the comments below!

Gary Oldman Awarded a Knighthood and Reveals His Hogwarts House

Gary Oldman Awarded a Knighthood and Reveals His Hogwarts House
Gary Oldman, the actor known to Harry Potter fans as Sirius Black, has officially been knighted, and in a recent podcast revealed what he believes his Hogwarts House to be.
The knighthood honor came as part of King Charles III’s annual Birthday Honours list, announced on June 14. Oldman, now 67, was recognized for his decades-long contribution to drama, which spans stage, film, and television.
Though his character was a Gryffindor, Oldman has jokingly admitted that he identifies more with another Hogwarts house. During a lighthearted appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Oldman was asked which house he might belong to.
Host Josh Horowitz asked if he had ever taken the online sorting quiz, to which Oldman responded “If I ever what?”, before laughing as Horowitz listed the Hogwarts Houses and their traits.
youtube
When told the characteristics of Hufflepuff; loyalty, patience, and dedication, he agreed that those traits likely suited him best, before joking about mispronouncing the name of the house.
Outside the wizarding world, Oldman’s acting resume includes critically acclaimed performances in films such as Dracula, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and The Dark Knight trilogy. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, and has more recently starred in the Apple TV+ spy series Slow Horses.
Oldman began his career on stage, including work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and has long been regarded as one of the most versatile actors of his generation. His knighthood is not only a personal milestone but also a recognition of his impact on British cinema and theatre.
Oldman joins a whole host of Potter actors who have also received knighthoods and damehoods, including Dame Imelda Staunton (Professor Umbridge), Dame Emma Thompson (Professor Trelawney), the late Sir John Hurt (Garrick Ollivander), Dame Julie Walters (Mrs. Weasley), Sir Kenneth Branagh (Gilderoy Lockhart), the late Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), and the late Sir Michael Gambon (Albus Dumbledore).
While many on this year’s Honours list were recognized for public service, Oldman’s award stands out as a celebration of cultural influence, highlighting his accomplishments in film and theatre.

Five Things The “Harry Potter” Reboot Can Fix
New Post has been published on https://bit.ly/3ZZ5foH
Five Things The “Harry Potter” Reboot Can Fix
The eight Harry Potter films were fantastic adaptations of the beloved books. However, there were many things that weren’t entirely faithful to the books. The upcoming Harry Potter TV show will have a longer time to explore the world and its details, and we’re hoping that means they’ll include these important elements that the reboot can finally fix.
1. Include More Subplots
Source
Although the main plot points were included, several had to be cut for time. A TV series format gives the reboot the opportunity to dive into side stories like S.P.E.W. and the full tragedy of Voldemort’s past. Dumbledore’s complicated history with Grindelwald and his own ambitions could also be explored in far greater depth, giving audiences a richer and more nuanced view of the wizarding world.
2. Better Character Development
Source
Several characters, such as Ginny, Tonks, and Lupin, deserved more screen time and a more accurate portrayal of their book counterpart. The reboot is an opportunity for Ginny to be the fierce, funny, and feisty character she really is instead of just Harry’s love interest or Ron’s sister. The same goes for characters like Tonks and Lupin, whose relationship and struggles were glossed over in the movies but could be explored fully in a longer series.
3. Consistent Wizardry
Source
In the books, non-verbal spells were portrayed as a challenging skill, one that only advanced witches and wizards could master after years of training. Yet later in the film series, many characters, even students, were casting spells wordlessly with ease. It broke some of the internal logic of the magical world. A consistent portrayal of magical rules and skills would help maintain the sense of wonder—and difficulty—that magic should have.
4. Include Cut Characters
Several fan-favorite characters were left out of the films completely, including Winky the house-elf, Charlie Weasley, and Peeves the poltregiest. These characters added humor, lore, and important context to the story. Including them in the reboot would not only please fans of the books, but also make the Wizarding World feel fuller and more alive.
5. Showcase More of the Wizarding World
We spent most of the films at Hogwarts, but the books gave glimpses of a much larger magical world. Places like St. Mungo’s Hospital, the Department of Mysteries, and wizarding communities outside of Britain barely got any screen time. The reboot could finally dive into these fascinating corners of the Wizarding World, offering fans a much broader and deeper experience than ever before.
What do you think of our list? What are you looking forward to seeing the most? Let us know in the comments.

"Potterversity" Episode 65: "'Potter' & 'Trek' Part 2 - The Reality Inside Your Head"

"Potterversity" Episode 65: "'Potter' & 'Trek' Part 2 - The Reality Inside Your Head"

We’re going out to the farthest reaches of space and into the deepest recesses of the mind for another look at Harry Potter and Star Trek.
Potterversity regular Louise Freeman, a retired psychology professor and licensed behavioral analyst who previously joined us for two episodes on memory in Harry Potter, contacted us after our Star Trek episode to share another connection that occurred to her. She asks us to consider the famous Dumbledore quotation “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” (DH 723) in the context of implanted memories in Star Trek.
We focus on Captain Picard’s life in an extinct civilization on the Next Generation episode “The Inner Light” and Chief O’Brien’s prison sentence on Deep Space Nine‘s “Hard Time.” Both experiences take place only in the characters’ minds within a few minutes yet feel like years to Picard and O’Brien. Technically, Picard never left the bridge of the Enterprise and O’Brien never served time in jail – it happened inside their heads but felt real to them and had lasting effects.
We also discuss Captain Pike’s time on Talos IV on The Original Series, where aliens can create convincing illusions either to trap people or to give them a better quality of life, which is particularly appealing for Pike after he becomes severely disabled. Nog’s time in a Las Vegas nightclub in a holosuite following a traumatic injury on Deep Space Nine‘s “It’s Only a Paper Moon” leads us to consider Potter‘s ghosts and another Dumbledore quote: “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live” (SS 214). These “unreal” experiences can have positive or negative consequences and demonstrate the power of escapism not only within these series but for audiences who feel immersed in them.
Can you think of any other connections between Harry Potter and Star Trek? We’d love to hear from you! Send us an email at [email protected], and connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.

"A Very Potter Musical" Actor Darren Criss Wins Tony Award for "Maybe Happy Ending"
New Post has been published on https://bit.ly/4dSZy17
"A Very Potter Musical" Actor Darren Criss Wins Tony Award for "Maybe Happy Ending"

Daniel Radcliffe isn’t the only actor who played Harry Potter to win a Tony Award. Following Radcliffe’s victory in the Best Featured Actor in a Musical category for his role in Merrily We Roll Along last year, Darren Criss – known to Harry Potter fans for his star turn as Harry Potter in StarKid’s A Very Potter Musical and its sequels – has won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his role as the robot Oliver in Maybe Happy Ending.
Criss is no stranger to Broadway, awards, or taking after Daniel Radcliffe. Following his role in A Very Potter Musical, for which he also wrote the songs, he starred on television in Glee and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, the latter of which earned him Emmy and Golden Globe Awards in 2018 and 2019, respectively. On Broadway, he once again followed in Daniel Radcliffe’s footsteps, this time playing J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He went on to star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and American Buffalo as well as in Little Shop of Horrors off-Broadway.
This was Criss’s first Tony nomination. He received widespread critical praise for his performance as Oliver, an outdated Helperbot obsessed with jazz music who falls in love with a newer model named Claire. Criss also co-hosted the earlier part of the ceremony and had the opportunity to present awards to his collaborators. Maybe Happy Ending was nominated for 10 Tony Awards in total and also won for book, score, scenic design, direction, and the top prize of the night, Best Musical.
Among the presenters was Tom Felton, who last week was announced to be making his Broadway debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, returning to his role of Draco Malfoy for the first time since the Harry Potter films. Dame Maggie Smith (Minerva McGonagall), who won a Tony Award in 1990 and died in 2024, was featured in the In Memoriam part of the ceremony.
Congratulations to Criss on his totally awesome victory and all of the nominees and winners.

Nick Frost on Reimagining Hagrid for HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV Show
New Post has been published on https://bit.ly/4jDtj7a
Nick Frost on Reimagining Hagrid for HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV Show

There’s a new Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts. British actor and comedian Nick Frost is officially stepping into the role of Rubeus Hagrid, which was originally brought to life by the late Robbie Coltrane in the Harry Potter films, for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter TV reboot.
In a recent interview with Collider, Frost opened up about the pressure and joy of stepping into this beloved role.
You get cast because you’re going to bring something to that. While I’m really aware of what went before me in terms of Robbie [Coltrane]’s amazing performance, I’m never going to try and be Robbie. I’m going to try and do something, not ‘different,’ I think you have to be respectful to the subject matter, but within that, there’s scope for minutia. I always read Hagrid as he’s like a lovely, lost, violent, funny, warm child. I think the beauty of being able to do a book a season means I get to explore that a lot more, and I can’t wait. He’s funny! I want it to be funny and cheeky and scared and protective and childlike. That’s what I’m planning on doing.
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Collider (@collider)
The TV show is set to span over ten years, with each season being an adaptation of each Harry Potter book, and with the luxury of more time per book meaning more content, Frost is clearly relishing the opportunity to dig deeper into the heart of the half-giant we all know and love.
Speaking about early production preparation, he explained it’s set to be “ten or eleven months per season” for the cast and crew to shoot, and he shared his excitement over the magical details being built into the show.
I’m just so excited to get going. I’ve gone in to do head sculpts and have your hand stand and stuff, and they say, ‘Oh, have a look at this.’ And you’re like, ‘Wow. That’s the coolest thing.’ I love films. I’ve loved cinema my whole life, so to be part of that universe now and that they’re showing me, like, a dancing mushroom, it’s like, ‘That is so cool!’.
Filming is set to begin this summer at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, where the original films were shot.
Frost will join the cast alongside the newly revealed famous trio; Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The confirmed adult cast so far includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
It’s a bold new chapter for the Wizarding World, and with Frost set to bring heart, humor, and a hint of unpredictability to Hagrid, are you looking forward to seeing his take on Rubeus Hagrid?

Tom Felton Reprising Role as Draco Malfoy in Broadway’s “Cursed Child”

Tom Felton Reprising Role as Draco Malfoy in Broadway’s “Cursed Child”

A piece of Wizarding World History is being made; for the first time ever, a member of the original Harry Potter film cast will reprise their role on stage in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Tom Felton, best known for his decade-long portrayal of Draco Malfoy in the Potter films will step back into the role this fall in the acclaimed stage production.
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Tom Felton (@t22felton)
Felton will join the Broadway cast for a limited 19-week period beginning November 11, 2025, through March 22, 2026, at New York City’s Lyric Theatre, marking not only his return to the character of Draco but also his official Broadway debut.
Set 19 years after the final events of the Harry Potter series, Cursed Child follows the next generation of wizards, including the children of Harry, Draco, Ron, and Hermione as they begin their own journeys at Hogwarts.
Felton, now the same age as his character in the play, called the opportunity “a full-circle moment.”
Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community.
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by TODAY (@todayshow)
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender praised Felton’s return, noting the unique legacy of both the character and the actor’s performance.
Tom Felton’s performance as a young Draco Malfoy on screen left an indelible impression on Harry Potter fans around the world. His role as Draco undeniably shaped one of the canon’s most nuanced characters. More than just a foil to Harry, Draco was a portrait of parental pressure, internal conflict, and reluctant vulnerability. Over the years, this character arc has become a symbol of how people can grow beyond the choices one was raised to make.
As fans of the wizarding world ourselves, we feel incredibly fortunate to welcome Tom into our Cursed Child family on Broadway and to offer Harry Potter fans around the globe the once-in-a-lifetime excitement of seeing him reprise this iconic role, this time on-stage in New York City. This moment is powerful on many levels—Tom will be making his Broadway debut and is marking a full-circle moment for not just himself, but for Draco too. He gets to inhabit Draco once more, but this time as an adult facing the relatable challenges of parenthood and the complicated meaning of legacy.
It’s not lost on us that this is a cultural moment charged with nostalgia, evolution, and emotion. Tom’s return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story. We’re beyond thrilled to welcome Tom back “home” but also into a new family: our Broadway company. We can’t wait to see him inhabit this role once again with the same depth, gravity, and humanity he has always brought to Draco.
Tickets are expected to sell quickly, and fans can sign up at HarryPotterBroadway.com for early access by Monday, June 9 at 5:59 P.M. E.T. The first pre-sale begins Tuesday, June 10 at 11 A.M. E.T. with general sales opening Thursday, June 12 at 11 A.M. E.T.
Felton’s return not only brings a fan-favorite character back to life but also marks a milestone in the Harry Potter universe, uniting film and stage like never before. His limited-time engagement promises to be a magical moment for the franchise, and a rare treat for the fans lucky enough to get themselves tickets and witness Tom’s return to Draco live on stage.

REVIEW: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic Is an Absolute Marvel

REVIEW: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic Is an Absolute Marvel
Universal Orlando Resort’s third Harry Potter-themed land, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, opened as part of the new Epic Universe park on May 22, and it is unlike anything we’ve seen before.
The name is admittedly misleading – the one ride in the area takes place in the British Ministry of Magic, but the rest of the space is 1920s wizarding Paris, as seen in the Fantastic Beasts series. While visiting Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley feels like going home to the wizarding world we know and love, wizarding Paris is utterly transportive. It may not evoke the same sense of nostalgia, but perhaps that’s part of its charm.
Walking into wizarding Paris feels like entering a whole new world of wonder and magic, filled with references to that familiar world but completely unique. It’s a truly creative endeavor inspired by a small glimpse from Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald that has been expanded into so much more – an exercise that fans who have spent decades imagining the wizarding world beyond the series can appreciate.

There’s so much to look at that it’s difficult to decide where to begin. The Cirque Arcanus tent, which hosts a spectacular theatrical show, and the Coupe de Quidditch sign in the center immediately catch the eye, but so does the classic French architecture of the five-story terraced buildings of the Rue Cachée. Each storefront is different, bursting with color and detail from top to bottom, offering a feast for the eyes in the windows if not a feast of French culinary delights inside. A colorful cast of characters and creatures inject even more life into the vibrant environment.
You could spend hours just admiring the surroundings, which we did, and still spot something new on every lap – a plaque about a building’s history (in French, so you may need to enlist Google Translate), a poster for a wizarding business, a magical creature peeking out of a window. The area is just as, if not more, stunning when lit up at night. The sheer amount of imagination that went into this creation is clearly on display. Every inch of the space feels carefully considered and crafted. The artistry of MinaLima, the team of Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, who did graphic designs for the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, is recognizable in every corner.

Métro-Floo tickets sign
Métro-Floo fireplace
Minister Kingsley Shacklebolt in the Ministry atrium

The Métro-Floo transition to the British Ministry of Magic of 1998 is enchanting – as long as you don’t think about it too much. Floo Powder shouldn’t transport the user in time as well as space, and there does seem to be a thematic disconnect between these two distinct areas compared to the self-contained and contemporaneous Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. Still, walking through a glowing green cloud and emerging into the massive, shining, black stone atrium of the Ministry is breathtaking. There is some fascinating lore in the queue for Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry that gives a glimpse into what the wizarding government might look like several months after the Battle of Hogwarts. The ride itself is a unique thrill, offering quite a different experience from the other Potter rides with its seating in a Ministry lift.
While it would be nice to have a second attraction like the other worlds in Epic Universe, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic offers plenty to keep visitors occupied and dazzled. Stay tuned for an in-depth review of the immersive queue and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry ride as well as more about the amazing new world at Epic Universe.

NBC Gives Series Order to Comedy "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins" Starring Daniel Radcliffe

NBC Gives Series Order to Comedy "The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins" Starring Daniel Radcliffe
Back in March, we reported that Daniel Radcliffe had been cast in Tracy Morgan’s NBC comedy pilot, which was then a yet-to-be-titled NBC pilot staring Tracy Morgan. It has now been confirmed that the pilot has been picked up for a series, and the series has a title: The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.
According to Variety, the series pickup was announced as NBC prepares for its annual upfront presentation in New York, and the show reunites key figures from NBC’s beloved sitcom 30 Rock. Morgan, who earned an Emmy nomination for playing Tracy Jordan on that show, stars as the title role, Reggie, “a disgraced former football player… on a mission to rehabilitate his image,” while Radcliffe will play Arthur Tobin, “an award-winning filmmaker who moves into Reggie’s mansion to film an immersive documentary about the former star running back.”
Morgan and Radcliffe join the cast alongside Erika Alexander (American Fiction), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live), Precious Way (Heist 88), and Jalyn Hall (Till).

30 Rock writers Robert Carlock and Sam Means are co-creators and executive producers of the new show, with Tina Fey also executive producing. Carlock is producing through his Bevel Gears banner, with Eric Gurian, David Miner, and Rhys Thomas also as executive producers.
Radcliffe’s involvement marks a reunion with the 30 Rock creative team, having previously collaborated with Fey, Carlock, and Means when he appeared in Netflix’s interactive film Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend.
For fans of Daniel Radcliffe, it’s another chance to see how far he’s come since his days on Harry Potter as the Boy Who Lived. His post-Potter career has been defined by bold and often bizarre roles in projects like Miracle Workers, Swiss Army Man, and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Whether you’re a fan of comedy TV or of Radcliffe’s work, it seems like The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is is going to be a must-watch addition to NBC’s fall lineup this year.

"Harry Potter" TV Show Casts Harry, Ron, and Hermione
It’s finally the day we’ve all been waiting for: Two wizards and a witch have officially received their Hogwarts letters.
Since the announcement of an open casting call for the roles of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger for the Harry Potter TV series back in September 2024, we’ve been on the lookout for any news. Now, we finally have names and faces to put to our beloved Golden Trio. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, Arabella Stanton will take on the role of Hermione, while Alistair Stout will step into the shoes of Ron Weasley.
View this post on Instagram
A post shared by Max (@streamonmax)
McLaughlin has one other project to his name, an upcoming Sky comedy film called Grow. Interestingly, the film also features Nick Frost, who has been cast as Hagrid in the Harry Potter TV show. Stanton has credits in West End musical theater, including a 6-month stint as Matilda in Matilda the Musical between September 2023 and March 2024, and a more recent role as Control in Starlight Express from June to September 2024. Stout is more unknown, with a single credit to his name in a commercial.
This announcement comes just after a week of the first sighting of a possible set. Pictures of the presumed Privet Drive construction leaked only last week. Now that we’ve got actors to fill it, how soon could filming begin?
Congratulations to Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alistair Stout! We can’t wait to see their takes on some of our favorite characters.

Universal Orlando Resort's Epic Universe, Including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Ministry of Magic, Now Open
This past week, MuggleNet had the opportunity to attend the media preview and grand opening of the new park at Universal Orlando Resort, Epic Universe, which includes the third Harry Potter-themed land, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and officially opened to the public on May 22.
The main portal entrance to Epic Universe (Credit: Laurie Beckoff)
Epic Universe is home to five fantastical worlds in total: Celestial Park, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. The first two Wizarding World of Harry Potter lands, Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios Florida, opened in 2010 and 2014, respectively. (Setting this new world in a separate park means that visitors who wish to experience all of the Potter areas must now purchase tickets for three different parks.)
Like all of the worlds contained within Epic Universe, the Ministry of Magic is accessed through a portal. This one is adorned with character wands (Harry Potter on one side, Fantastic Beasts on the other) and a Dumbledore quote from the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban film (“For in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own”) and topped with a column ending in a hand holding the Elder Wand.
On Wednesday afternoon, one of the otherworldly denizens of Celestial Park kicked things off at the portal before a Demiguise appeared, trailed by students from Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Ilvermorny trying to complete a Care of Magical Creatures assignment. Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick, Griphook), James Phelps (Fred Weasley), and Oliver Phelps (George Weasley) then came out to invite us into the magic contained within.

Just past the portal are maps and an advertising column – a simple introduction, but like many aspects of the wizarding world, looks can be deceiving. Turn the corner and there’s a grand arch leading to the bustling streets of wizarding Paris in the 1920s. We spent hours exploring the details and trying the food as well as taking the Métro-Floo into the British Ministry of Magic to experience Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry. The opening ceremonies closed with a nighttime firework and fountain show accompanied by music from each of the worlds, including the familiar soundtracks of the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.
Check out MuggleNet’s coverage on our Facebook and Instagram pages, and stay tuned for reviews, interviews, and more about the new park.

Ralph Fiennes Cast as President Snow in "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping"

Ralph Fiennes Cast as President Snow in "The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping"
Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies, is now set to take on another big bad of YA literature–turned-film. Fiennes has been cast as President Coriolanus Snow in the adaptation of the new Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping.
The role was played in the original Hunger Games trilogy-turned-quadrilogy by Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, who sadly died last year at the age of 88. The first Hunger Games prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, focused on Coriolanus Snow as an 18-year-old acting as a mentor in the 10th Hunger Games. He was played in the 2023 film by Tom Blyth.
This second prequel focuses on Haymitch Abernathy, who becomes the victor of the second Quarter Quell (the 50th Hunger Games) and, later, Katniss Everdeen’s mentor in the 74th and 75th Games. By the time of the 50th Games, President Snow is 58 years old, a good match for Fiennes’s current age of 62.
Producer Nina Jacobson said of the casting, “We wanted to honor Donald Sutherland by having one of this generation’s greatest actors play President Snow 24 years before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena. Working with Ralph has been on my bucket list since he traumatized me for life in Schindler’s List. It’s genuinely a thrill to welcome him to The Hunger Games.”

The Sunrise on the Reaping book, by Suzanne Collins, came out just a couple of months ago, and already, casting has come fast and furious. Haymitch will be played by relative newcomer Joseph Zada, Plutarch Heavensbee by Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon), Beetee by Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Elvis), Wiress by Maya Hawke (Stranger Things), Mags by Lili Taylor (American Crime), Effie Trinket by Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown), and Caesar Flickerman by Kieran Culkin (Succession).
Fiennes isn’t the first actor to bridge the Harry Potter and Hunger Games fandoms. Toby Jones (voice of Dobby) played the Games’ announcer, Claudius Templesmith, in the original films. And composer James Newton Howard has scored all five Hunger Games movies and all three Fantastic Beasts movies.

We can’t wait to see what Ralph Fiennes brings to President Snow when The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is released in theaters on November 20, 2026.

New Photos Reportedly Show Privet Drive Set Construction for HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV Series

New Photos Reportedly Show Privet Drive Set Construction for HBO’s “Harry Potter” TV Series

The first photo showing the construction of one of the sets for HBO’s Harry Potter has emerged, and it is reportedly going to be Privet Drive.
According to a photo from UnBoxPHD on X, the production isn’t reusing old sets or digitally recreating the iconic suburban street where Harry grew up with his aunt, uncle, and cousin; instead they’re constructing a brand-new Privet Drive, which looks to have a Tudor-style update with much larger houses than the ones seen in the films.
FIRST LOOK!

— UnBoxPHD (@UnBoxPHD) May 17, 2025
Some may be wondering whether a new Privet Drive set is really necessary, but those who have read the Harry Potter books will know that many scenes featuring the Dursley’s house never made it into the films. From a series of Harry’s magical mishaps in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (like regrowing his hair overnight or vanishing onto a school roof) to Mr. Weasley blasting into their living room via Floo Powder in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, destroying their fireplace in the process. Plus we can’t forget the full Dursley goodbye in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, where there’s a longer farewell scene where members of the Order arrive to escort the Dursleys into hiding and Dudley thanks Harry for saving his life and shakes his hand. And that’s just to name a few of them.
Whether it’s for a brief flashback or something more elaborate, if the set is Privet Drive, this series is going all in, and producers are reportedly putting a lot of money into the expansion of the Leavesden studios where it is being filmed, including new roads, multi-storey car parks, a school for all the young actors who will be playing Hogwarts students, and an animal facility for all the real-life creatures playing a role in the series.
While HBO hasn’t officially confirmed that the set is for Harry Potter, its location at Leavesden Studios makes it highly likely, and this kind of commitment shows how seriously HBO is taking the reboot.
