I'm privileged to help coach JV football and camp starts next week. It's always a very intense thing- 14 year olds coming in and doing the hardest physical challenge they've most likely ever done... twice a day for two weeks in a row. There are complaints, there are tears, there are excuses as they learn to fight the instinct to quit. "Be the speed bump not the bus" is a motto I learned from fellow coach. Coaches are there to make it difficult for your sons and daughters. That's how they learn to 'punch harder' even when it hurts. If they are comfortable they aren't progressing. It will sound like they are struggling. They are. They will sound hurt, they are. That's ok. If they really need assistance we have a professional trainer- trust her. The transfer to life is an easy one: you're not always 100%, step up anyways because it isn't just about you. It's awesome to be there with such a great group of fellow coaches. We will push your kids, they will cry, they will be hurt, they will want to quit and come up with reasons why they should. Worth it. Byrd Shelix head reduced the amount of force necessary to push a piece of work through my jointer, increasing safety. Got it on sale at grizzly for $375. Not a tele but close. #200, all sorts of crazy stuff is happening. Arches top/back, archtop style tailpiece. Homemade string through bridge pickup, paint, copper archtop pickguard, slot head stock maple board. There's a lot of discipline with keeping things simple around here.
