eddie x bestfriend! reader where eddie gets a new girlfriend to make the reader jealous because he really likes her. So he starts to bring his gf around hellfire and the reader and her get along really well. But it’s only because she’s eddie’s bestfriend and wants to support him even though she’s in love with him. Anyways, eddie gets upset that they’re getting along and realizes that he’s jus theming an asshole and should tell the reader how he feels so he breaks up with his gf and she completely understand, and then him and the reader have a heart to heart, happy ending please!!!
I love this!
⚠️angst for the start! I changed it just a tad bit because I don't like the idea of a girl being used :)
Eddie had feelings for his best friend, Y/N for months. But he was always too chicken to make the move. He couldn't lose her if she rejected him.
So he thought, why not make her jealous? See if she has a reaction. A reaction that would tell him everything he needed.
Eddie had the perfect girl in mind. At the mechanic shop he worked out, there was a female coworker around his age that recently moved to the school. He begged her throughout their whole shift.
"please Alex, just for a little while? I just want to see if she'll get jealous" he begged.
"is this the girl you've been talking about since you started here?" She questioned
Eddie blushed and nodded.
"fine. Only because I know you really like her"
Y/N smiled as she walked into the lunch room, heading for her usual spot next to Eddie. She went to place her tray down when Eddie stopped her.
"sorry Y/N, Alex is going to sit there today" he said, smiling.
Watching her closely, searching her face for a reaction.
"oh, who's Alex?" She squeaked out.
"my girlfriend"
The huge smile on his face made her heart sink. She bit her lip and nodded
"oh wow! Okay. No problem" she politely sat across from where Alex would be, sitting next to Dustin.
Eddie deflated slightly. She didn't look bothered at all.
"hi guys!" Alex waved as she took her seat. Her brown eyes quickly searched the table for the mystery girl.
Alex was taken back, she was gorgeous. She could easily see why Eddie was so smitten with her
"you must be Alex! It's so nice to meet you" Y/N said, holding out her hand. Her eyes looked over Alex. She was breathtaking. Dark hair and brown eyes. She had tattoos up her arms and nose pierced. Definitely Eddie's type.
Alex smiled at her pointlessness. Shaking the girls soft hand. Eddie watched the interaction closely. His body deflating even more.
~~
"Great. She looked perfectly fine" Eddie sighed as he sat in his throne chair.
"I'm sure she was caught off guard. She probably didn't have enough time to have a reaction" Alex explained.
The two went quiet when Y/N walked into the hellfire room
"oh Alex! You play?" She questioned. She was the only girl Eddie knew that played, that's what made her special.
Alex smirked, the tone in her voice went higher pitched.
"oh no! I just wanted to see Eddie in action." She flirted, her hand landing on his knee, turning her head to smile at him.
Eddie looked at Alex confused, she knew how to play? Why did she lie?
"oh okay" Y/N smiled. Pulling out a chair and sitting on the other side of Eddie. Once again across from Alex.
Alex leaned up and whispered into Eddie's ear
"you have her on the line now. Follow my lead"
Eddie nodded, eyes looking over to Y/N who quickly looked away. Waiting for the rest of the group to show up.
~~
This was the worst hellfire experience of her life. Eddie spent the whole camping with Alex on his lap. Teaching her the way of the game.
Y/N tried not to be jealous. He was single. He was allowed to teach his girlfriend how to play. She tried to ignore their big smiles and her giggles as she cheered.
As the group cleaned up and headed out of the doors. Y/N was left behind with the couple.
"she's good isn't she?" Eddie asked, nodding his head to Alex, who still was on his lap.
"oh yeah! Alex you were amazing for a beginner. I wish I was that good when I started" Y/N smiled.
Alex felt herself smiling. This girl was like a ball of sunshine. She felt a tad guilty trying to make this girl jealous. But if it ends with Eddie and her finally together, then it was worth it.
Y/N excused herself and walked out the door.
"WAIT I'M YOUR RIDE!" Eddie shouted after her
"It's okay. I can catch a ride with Chrissy. Alex gets the hellfire ice cream welcome right? I don't want to intrude on the date" Y/N said softly as she closed the door behind her. Blinking back her tears. Wanting to ignore the images of them sharing ice cream and kissing all night.
"the what?" Alex asked confused
"I may have told her when someone new joins I take them out for ice cream as an excuse to take her out" Eddie blushed
"and now she thinks we have an ice cream date. She's so adorable Eddie" Alex sighed
"I know but she obviously likes you so just great" Eddie huffed out, standing up.
"she likes me Eddie because she thinks you like me. It's in her eyes, she's jealous. She likes you Eddie." Alex explained
"if she's jealous why won't she say anything?"
"Eddie. She doesn't want to upset you. She thinks we are actually together. Is she really the type of girl to ruin a relationship just to get what she wants?" Alex questioned. She already knew the answer but it needed to connect in Eddie's head.
"no she wouldn't" Eddie sighed
"don't give up. It's working" she smiled
~~
Eddie and Alex kept their fake relationship going for a few months.
Alex and Y/N actually were becoming really good friends. Alex easily learning Y/N's body language.
Prom was around the corner and Eddie's final plan was set.
"you ready to ask her?" Alex asked as she handed Eddie the flowers
"what if she says no? What if we have this all wrong?" Eddie panicked. Rejection was still a 50/50 chance.
"Eddie listen to me. I've spent months with this girl. She's in love with you. She talks about you all the time. She purposely gives me details of things you like so I can do them for you. She wouldn't try that hard to make your relationship work with another girl if she didn't care. She wants you to be happy and she's fine even if it's with another girl. I'm a girl, I know this. So man up and ask your damn girl to prom!" Alex snapped. Pushing Eddie out of the van as Y/N was walking past.
Alex quickly hid in the backseat
"woah Eddie. What's up?" Y/n laughed as Eddie practically jumped out of his van
"I have a question for you" he breathed out, handing her the flowers
She took them confused
"look I've had this crush on you for so long. I've been in love with you just as long. I adore the way you talk. The way you laugh. How amazing you play dnd. You brighten up every single day of my life and I want to ask you, if you'd be my date to prom? How would that sound to you?" He breathed out. Anxiety filling his body.
He watched as she closed her eyes. Tears filling them quickly. He looked at her worried as she smashed the flowers in his chest
"sounds good to me Eddie. She'll love it" she choked out, smiling fast.
"wait what?" He questioned out loud. She was walking away towards her car and he watched her confused
"go after her idiot!" Alex said through the window.
Eddie looked over at her, confusion still in his eyes
"EDDIE GO!" She screamed.
Eddie jumped into action, throwing the flowers on the ground and running after Y/N and yanking her arm back. Turning her around.
She stood there with tears falling down her cheeks
"why are you crying gorgeous? Don't cry or I'll cry" He spoke softly. Wiping her tears with his thumbs
"Eddie I can't do this. I'm sorry" she cried. Shaking her head as she sobbed harder.
"do what? I don't understand"
"I can't keep acting like I'm okay with you and Alex. I know it's wrong but fuck I hate seeing how happy you are. It hurts so bad. And now you are taking her to prom, and I just always dreamed of you asking me. And I'm selfish. I shouldn't be telling you any of this because Alex is amazing and sh-" Eddie cut off her rambling with his lips.
Wrapping his arm around her waist and cupping her jaw. Kissing her passionately. She kissed back. Tangling her hands in his hair as she pushed herself against him.
Once she realized what she was doing she shoved him off of her. Eddie stumbled over his feet at the action
"Eddie! Oh my god we shouldn't have done that"
She just helped Eddie cheat on his girlfriend
"Alex and I aren't together. It wasn't real" he spoke fast. He needed her to understand right away.
"what?" She was confused
"Alex works at the mechanic shop. I asked her to pretend to be my girlfriend to make you jealous. I was asking you to prom. Not asking if it was good enough to ask her. It's always been you and no one else. I'm sorry I didn't just tell you. I was scared. Scared you wouldn't li-" this time she cut him off. Smashing her lips back on his.
He hummed as she threw herself in his arms. Holding her tightly as he kissed her back.
She pulled back with a smile
"I love you too and I'd love to go to prom"
Eddie silently cheered in his head.
Eddie finally got his girl

omgggg hcs for himbo malewife brett!!! (would be be a house husband??) 🥺🥺

|Brett Hand as a House Husband|
a/n: BRETT!! ugh i love him sm and ty for requesting! also sorry that this took WAY too long, i havent rewatched inside job since like december 😭 ty for reading!
pairing: househusband! malewife! brett hand x pregnant! afab! reader
post type: headcanons + some drabble
requested: yes!
word count: 1.2k
warnings: afab reader but gender neutral, pre-established relationship, pre-established marriage, mentions of pregnancy and BIRTH, slight angst! (brett's familial trauma mention), FLUFF, fambly, use of mommy when describing reader but like not seriously yfm

ever since his family left him, something he's desperately wanted was to bring some good into the world and prove to himself that he would never be like — be better than them
because a negative and a positive are better than nothing
so, when the day came when you both found out you were pregnant, he was ECSTATIC
if you work at Cognito Inc, he'll break the news to everyone before you even have the chance 😭
you take one (1) day off because you're not feeling well and your phone buzzes every minute w a new text from your coworkers
pleaseee don't be mad he's just very excited !!
if you don't work with everyone, he's still gonna gush about it to The Gang™️
"and this is a photo of (name) and i right after we found out!!"
"brett this is the 16th time today you've showed me that picture"
no matter what he's gonna beg you to take maternity leave as soon as possible
then he can finally spoil you !!! please dear reader let him take care of you while you're pregnant 🥲 it's his love language
as much as he wants to be a good father, he knows that he doesn't know what to do when it comes to 'Good Father Experiences'
^ he DEFINITELY tells his therapist about the pregnancy! they know about his trauma and parental fears, they're so proud of him!
it's one thing to want something and it's something completely different to take the leap!!
brett starts working (even more) overtime in preparation for the little baby
he tries to balance the world on his shoulders; you're giving him a BLOODLINE, you're not allowed to lift a finger!!
after a serious talk about how this makes you feel, he'll back off and take tiny, short break
towards the end of your pregnancy, when the baby's arrival is right around the corner, something in brett switches
his domestic dreams and desires to be seen as useful combine into a very plausible reality of staying at home and taking care of the family
taking care of your family
of course he still has his job, but he doesn't really need it; he's saved a lot of money throughout the years!
he can be a good house husband for you !! cook and clean for you while you work hard at your job !!
a part of brett wants to give the little cutie everything he didn't get as a child; an unconditional amount of love and an unfaltering support system
mr. hand will not so subtly drop hints about his wants for the future
it's early morning; approximately 5 am. the deep purple of the sky seeps its way into your shared room. the crib standing out as the new addition.
your ginger husband holds you. his warm and built chest against your back as you lay on his left arm. his right hand running it's thumb over your grown belly. the three of you awake (the little one making sure of that) but not up, admiring the peace before the day begins.
"i'm so lucky." he whispers; you can hear his golden smile in the way he talks. "i can't wait to be a good father."
"really?" you ask. sarcasm is heavy with your tone; but there isn't any menace behind it. you already know he's going to be amazing.
"mhmm." his hand cups ever-so-slightly. he does this when he talks to the baby. "i'll cook you yummy dinners, help with homework, go to your games- or recitals- or concerts!, help pick up your toys, play catch, everything. and anything."
he hums adoringly and holds you closer. it's in that moment you just know.
he's panicky when it's go time. he has the brown, paper sack for breathing, and the bags filled of everything (the internet said you needed) for the hospital.
the delivery was LONG but the baby arrived all safe and sound!
you and brett shed quite a few tears upon seeing the entirely new person the both of you created
he was SOBBING
the first couple of nights were really rough; especially when it came to adapting to the new sleeping schedule (or lack of)
but as time went on, the two of you learned!! and the experience became easier
the baby likes to eat!! a lot!!!
brett takes the night shift when it comes to feedings and changings, he insists!
when the baby just wants to cuddle at 2am, you can hear brett humming while rocking them
"you'll never know, dear, how much i love you."
you flutter open your eyes to see the golden light of the lamp illuminate your husband. his attention completely on your comforted baby in his arms. a soft smile found it's way onto your unenergized face.
"please don't take my sunshine away."
once it's been a few months, brett has to make the decision on wether or not to go through with completely quitting his job and taking care of your little family
he wants to. every cell in his body is screaming at him to take the plunge and never look back!!
but he works for the government in all it's evil glory, would they even allow him to quit?
he calls reagan and asks for advice. she's his bestie and would definitely at least give good advice.
unfortunately this is where he finds out that only way to leave his job is to get fired 😭 just because of how much of a huge secret it is
he quickly thinks of ways to make that happen before deciding otherwise
but !! she tells him that since he's pretty enough, he could convince JR to let him work from home. most of his job is inspiring his co-workers and he doesn't always need to be in person to do that
after begging on his knees, sobbing having a serious discussion about the future, brett's able to work from home!!
there is one condition; the children and the workplace must stay SEPARATED
cognito inc. can't afford another mr. ridley situation
brett and jr shake on it
he won't lie he doesn't like not being able to have 100% free time with the family :( but 2 incomes are better than 1 in the long run
speaking of the workplace The Gang™️ LOVES hearing stories about your baby
especially Gigi!! i personally hc she has some experience with kiddos herself so she loves to listen and give advice!!
glenn also gives advice but.....brett don't take it pls
myc reads brett's mind sometimes to see if he thinks abt you and the baby as much as he talks about you two and the answers YES
andre makes sex jokes abt you and brett CONSTANTLY
"ehehehehe. you've seen their mommy milkers."
"don't say that, a-dog :( what the heck, man."
aunt reagan comes over and babysits frequently!! she also spoils your kiddo(s) often lol if they pick up a passion for machinery she is by their side in a heartbeat!
brett is an amazing father overall as he promised!! from the newborn stage he's been listening, learning, and always tries to improve himself and his fatherly skills
he bandages any boo-boos
reads them to sleep before tucking them in
helping them do their hair in the morning before preschool
he already wants more children 😭 calm down sir
walking through your front door after work to be welcomed by hugs and giggles is a dream
and for brett, a dream come true
especially when he gets to hear you say the most cliché, magical words he's always wanted to hear
"honey! i'm home!"

Mama!

Single dad!Eddie x reader
Single dad!Eddie masterlist!!

Tw-reader is referred to as mama? Fem reader, happy tears, crying, Molly gets misunderstood the whole day and it’s frustrating her, let me know if I missed anything!!

When you’d met Molly, she called Eddie mama, which was kinda ironic considering most people tell you it’s harder to pronounce mama which is why more babies say dada first.
However now that you had a little toddler chasing after you with her sippy cup, it was not so funny. She still hadn’t managed to say any more names than mama and dada, both were in reference to Eddie. Any time she needed anyone else’s attention she’d simply grunt at them until she got the desired persons attention and affection.
Today however, it was difficult to understand what she wanted, of course you knew she wanted juice in her cup, so you gave her juice, though when she’d chased you with it again it was still full and Molly had a little pout on her lips.
“Molly, honey I don’t understand” you told her sadly and she practically shoved her face in the couch huffing and puffing in frustration.
Eddie plopped himself beside you running his hands through the loose curls at the base of Molly’s neck, the tiny curls that weren’t quite long enough to fit into her little pigtails.
“What’s wrong?” His voice is soft and you know he’s trying to soothe Molly and figure out what happened.
He gives her a sympathetic smile when she pulls her face away from the couch cushions her eyebrows furrowed slightly.
“She’s been chasing me with her cup but it’s full, I don’t know what she wants” you’re not upset or frustrated like he thinks you’d be.
If anything you sound saddened by the fact that you couldn’t figure out what it was, Molly could say a few words like water, sip, juice and a few other basics but she seemed to only want to use them when she wanted not when she was prompted.
She huffed before she tried to climb up into your lap, after much struggling she finally accepted your help.
After she settled in your lap she leaned over grabbing her cup and practically shoving it into your chest, “mama sip!” She shouted and you blinked.
She’d called you mama…she thinks of you as her mom?????
You can feel your eyes begin to water, “did you hear her Eddie?” You turn to Eddie who’s still staring at Molly in shock.
“Mama sip!!” She shouts again pushing the cup further into you, “why no??” She furrows her brows and you know if she was sitting on the couch the sassy toddler would have already have thrown her head back in frustration.
“Ok baby”. You giggle wetly leaning down before pretending to sip her watered down juice.
“Mmm thank you for sharing baby” you watch the little smile make its way across her face before she throws her cup to the side and leans against your chest.
Once you’re both certain she’s asleep you turn to Eddie, a little wobbly smile forming as a few tears gather in your eyes again, “she thinks of me as her mom!” You whisper.
He nods reciprocating your smile, “I’m glad it’s you” and with that you’re certain that you have happy tears flowing like a river.

Anywho let me know if you guys want to see anything from this series because I love requests so much😭😭

Garden of Eden - Eddie Munson x Fem!Reader
Summary: The unspoken events of your last night on earth, lead to something much bigger than either of you. Words: 4.7 k Warnings: Swearing, FLUFF, pregnancy, angst, any specifics lemme know!
A/N: This took me so long I began doubting myself so, have at it!! Despite pregnancy, no smut! :)
feedback & reblogs most appreciated <3
___________________________
“Are you going to tell him?“
Somehow, offering to take Henderson home from school has resulted in an awkward and untimely revelation that you are pregnant. Pregnant with Eddie Munson’s baby, no less.
“Fuck.” You whisper as a few rouge tears fall. You wipe them away, quickly, with the back of your hand and blink hard in an attempt to clear your vision of the sparkling lights. “Sorry.” Dustin stays quiet, he doesn’t think you have anything to apologise for, but he waits till you’re ready, wise beyond his fifteen years on earth. "I have to tell him.” You croak. “I just don’t know how.” Your hands tighten around the steering wheel, the moisture from your sweaty palms making the movement easier.
The road seems to go on forever as you try to keep it in focus.
“He’s not a bad guy.” Dustin’s words come softly and unexpectedly.
“I know.” You sigh. “I know.” You’d never talked about kids, of course you hadn’t, you weren’t even in a relationship. It was just one night.
Pulling up outside Dustin’s house, he turns to you with his signature smile.
“For what it’s worth, I think you’ll be great parents.” He speaks softly and you have to swallow back the tears that threaten to chase the sentimental moment.

The one time Eddie goes to the barber shop

Dad!Eddie x mom!reader
Dad!Eddie masterlist!
I can’t remember who I talked about this with but just know it’s not my full idea and I did talk with someone about this!!

Eddie rarely went to the barber shop…correction he never went to the barber shop, when he was younger he’d give himself haircuts, when he moved in with Wayne, Wayne cut his hair and when you two got together you took over.
Needless to say, Eddie has never been to a barber shop, well he has but not recently, not since he’s grown his hair out which has probably been what, 13 years now? If not more.
So of course when he was going for a job interview he thought might as well and without telling you, he booked an appointment, and poor Eddie he’s never had to tell a barber that he just wants his ends tipped, and ends up walking out with incredibly short hair.
The minute he sees a pay phone he’s farting over to it as he inserts his pocket change.
“Hello?” Your voice is soft coming from the other side of the line.
“Baby I just cut off all my hair…”
“What?” He hears something clatter to the floor and he’s pretty sure it’s Lucy’s sippy cup.
“Baby it was an accident I went to a barber”
You let out a huff, “alright just get back home”
And when he’s home you can say that he certainly looks different. All his pretty curls are gone and you both hate it, he doesn’t look bad in fact he looks great but you miss the familiarity you find in that one little curl you’d always twirl around your finger when you’d dance together in the living room.
When little Lucille toddles in on her chunky legs you hear her cup drop to the floor a shrill shriek coming from her as she runs to you.
She practically screams blooded murder when Eddie reaches out to comfort her.
“Honey it’s daddy” you can hear the sorrow in his voice as Lucille vehemently shakes her head holding tightly onto you.
“Sweetheart look it’s dada” you place your hand on Eddie’s face trying to show her that even if this wasn’t her dad he was at least docile.
After a long four hours of Lucy pulling away from Eddie everytime he looked at her she’d finally gone down for bed.
“I’m never going to a barber again” Eddie huffs, you giggle pressing a kiss to his cheek as you lie beside him in bed.
“She’ll come around eventually Eds” he lets out a little puff of air as he settles down beside you finally getting ready to go to sleep.
That was the one and only time Eddie went to a barber shop.

Anywho!!! If anyone has any ideas or things they’d like to see for this pls let me know because I’d love to write requests for this!!!!

All couples went through rough patches. That just came with the territory. However, this one, was the worst you both had ever been. The energy between you and Eddie was strained, tired and tense. And you had no idea why. You were seven months pregnant with a baby girl, and for the first half of your pregnancy, Eddie had been ecstatic. Nervous, but ecstatic nonetheless.
And now it was like he was gone. When you both talked, it was broken out into a fight, leaving you a crying mess and him storming out to go rant to his Uncle Wayne. He wasn’t talking to you, and honestly, you felt alone. You were working part time as a waitress during the day, and when you came home, all you wanted to do was sleep with Eddie by your side, but it didn’t seem like he wanted to do that anymore. You knew it had something to do with the baby, but he wouldn’t talk to you about it.
The job he had kept you two at bay. He worked night shift as a bouncer at the club outside of town. It was good money, you couldn’t deny that, but you worried for him when he went in for his shifts. Too many times had he come back with black eyes and bloody noses. You learned best to not pester him about it, because he only snapped at you.
You were living in a small, two bedroom house now, rather than the trailer you’d both given up a few months ago. You assured him you didn’t need to move, but he was adamant about it. Truth was, he was growing cold the last few weeks, and it was breaking your heart. Even your friends could tell that things were tense between the two of you.
It had been almost a month since you two had been intimate with each other. Passionate kisses were turning into small pecks or a squeeze of your shoulder. When you’d talk about the baby he’d clam up, and he wouldn’t ever touch your stomach anymore. Some nights he wouldn’t even come to bed, trading to sleep on the couch instead. Once, you’d woke him up crying, your hormones blaring up a storm, and he begrudgingly followed you back to bed so you wouldn’t cry all night.
It was almost midnight. Eddie would be coming home soon, and you were determined to stay up to see him home. You were seated on the floor, lounging in comfortable sweats with your hair in a bun. You were cursing under your breath, trying to put together the crib for the baby. He kept promising he would do it, but that had been weeks ago. You were trying to give him space, trying to not irritate him and hoped that he would come to you when he was ready. It was normal to get cold feet, but you were starting to get fed up, because he was acting ridiculous.
You hummed slightly at the little kick in your stomach, and you smiled down at your stomach. “Is that your foot I feel?” You brought your hand to your stomach. “I know, dumplin. I can’t wait to meet you too.” You sighed as you looked back to the instructions, scratching your neck. “I’m trying to get your bed fixed up, but it’s not going so good. Your daddy said he’d do it for me but…” You caught yourself before you got worked up, pursing your lips.
The jingle of keys caught your attention, and you smiled widely when you seen those dark curls step through the doorway. “Hey, baby-” Your greeting was cut off by a gasp, your hand coming up to your mouth at the sight of blood dripping from his face. “Oh, god, Eddie!”
He froze at the sight of you, sighing heavily as you waddled your way over to him. “I thought you were asleep.”
“What the hell happened?” You panicked, shutting the door as you pulled him into the kitchen, flicking on the light. Blood was seeping from his eye, completely bloodshot as it stained his cheek.
“Just a fight.” He said shortly, allowing you to push him into a seat. He knew better than to not let you take care of his injuries, otherwise he’d be met with angry sobs. You pulled out the first aid kit, which you kept in the drawer by the doorway now after so many encounters like this.
“Are you okay?” You grabbed his face, rummaging through the kit. “God, we should go to the hospital! This looks-”
“No, it’s alright.” He brushed his hand over your arm. “It don’t hurt that bad.”
You sighed as you grabbed antiseptic wipes and brought it up to his cheek, tilting his head back toward the light. “What happened this time?”
Your belly poked his uniform clad knee. It was a classy place, so he had to dress a certain way, something that did not make him overly happy. He winced at the burn on his cheek, the skin starting to swell as you wiped away blood.
“Just a guy. Had too much to drink. Usual stuff.” He tried to keep it simple so you wouldn’t ask too many questions.
You kept quiet, continuing your work. You swallowed a lump in your throat, telling yourself that you didn’t want to fight, but this was happening too often and you were tired of patching him up. “You’re not gonna be able to see very well.” You said sadly, and his eyes flickered up to yours from your tone, licking his lips.
“I told you I was gonna do that.” He nodded toward the crib, trying to change the subject.
You briefly glanced over in the direction of the crib, grabbing another wipe to work around his eye. “Yeah, well that was weeks ago. I had nothing else to do.” Irritation slipped through your voice as much as you tried to keep it from doing so, and he gave you a weird look, but said nothing.
“Ow, fuck-” He winced, grabbing at the counter.
“She was kicking earlier.” You smiled softly, trying to get him to talk about your unborn child. “She gets active at night. I think she waits for you to come home.”
His eyes went to your swollen tummy, parting his lips. “That’s nice.”
That’s nice?
“What’s your hours this week?” You immediately changed the subject. This was not going very well.
“Usual.” He sniffled.
You sighed loudly that time, throwing down the wipe to pull out a bandaid. “Great. So that means I’ll be up six days this week taking care of more accidents.” You slapped a bandaid on a small cut to his cheek. A bruise was forming around his eye, the inside stained blood red from popped blood vessels.
“Y/n.” He said sternly, shaking his head. “I’m not talking about this shit again.”
You turned around to wash your hands, biting your lips to keep from crying, shoulders shaking in anger. You did nothing wrong. There was no reason for you to be treated this way. “I want you to get another job.” You turned, hand on your belly and eyes firm.
He sent you a glare. “You know that isn’t happening. Go to sleep. I’ll finish the crib.” He went to turn, but you grabbed his elbow.
“Don’t dismiss me, Edward!” You snapped. “I can’t keep waiting for you to come home every night covered in bruises and blood! You’re going to get yourself killed!”
He closed his eyes to keep from lashing out. This argument had already been done one too many times. “You know why I can’t leave it, y/n.” He said firmly. “There’s no other job in town that pays money like that. I’m lucky to be working there. We can’t be picky. Not with..”
Your eyes narrowed at his silence, and you looked down to your stomach. “What? The baby? Can you not even acknowledge her now?”
“What?” He backed away incredulously. “That’s not true.”
“It is true!” You threw your arms up, stepping on your tip toes to scream in his face. “You ignore her! Just like you do me! All you do is work! You don’t ever make time for me anymore! All you do is avoid me!”
“That’s ridiculous, y/n.” He said calmly, staring at you with dead eyes despite your outburst. “You’re just tired. Go-”
“If you tell me to sleep one more damn time I’m gonna give you another black eye to match, I swear to God!” You pointed at him, hair falling out of place.
He clamped his mouth shut, and you let your hand fall to the side as silence ensued. You couldn’t do it anymore. Seventh months pregnant or not, even with your hormones out the wall and halfway to Jupiter, this was just too much. His face barely held emotion. His eyes were tired, and you knew he didn’t want to talk.
“Y/n, it’s been a long night.” He closed his eyes. “Can we please just forget about this?”
You felt like he was ripping out your heart and stomping on it right in front of you. You felt like he was drifting away from you. What did you do? Why was he pulling away?
“What did I do?” Your voice broke like fire crackers, eyes brewing with diamond tears.
He sighed heavily in exhaustion, giving you a look. “You didn’t do anything, y/n. I’m just tired, alright?”
“Then why do you hate me so much?” You cried, blubbering like a baby, hands cradling your stomach.
“I don’t hate you.” His face hardened, lips forming into a line. “I do not hate you.”
“Then why won’t you talk to me anymore?” You sobbed, face scrunching together as your chest heaved. “Something’s wrong and you won’t tell me what it is!”
Your cries made his heart throb, wincing from your cries. “Y/n,” He took a step, reaching out to grab your elbow. “You’re just…you’re just emotional, honey.”
“Don’t try and gaslight me, Eddie!” You snapped, yanking your arm away. “I am not emotional!”
He rubbed his face tiredly, chuckling dryly without humor. “Okay, I’m not doing this. I’m going to bed.”
You watched him go into the bedroom and take a blanket, passing you to toss himself on the couch. You looked down to the ground and gritted your jaw shut to keep the sobs from escaping. You knew the questions was stupid, but you had to ask it.
“Is there someone else?” You whimpered, not looking up to meet his eyes. “Is that..is that why?” The shine of your runny nose glistened on your cupid’s bow, mixing with your tears.
You were met with seconds of silence, and then a sharp, “What?”
You sobbed harshly, crossing your arms as you breached hysterics. “If there’s someone else…if there is then you c-can tell me. I just want you to t-talk to me.”
You looked up when his shoes hit the floor, and he was mad. “Don’t fucking say shit like that.” He seethed, gritting his teeth as he took a step towards you. “Don’t you fucking dare.”
“Then what is it!” You threw your hands up, shouting through your cries.
“Nothing!” He snapped, causing you to let out a sob. “Nothing! There’s nothing wrong! I’m not fucking mad at you! I’m not seeing anybody else! Will you just let me fucking go to sleep! I’m the one who’s making all this money for our kid, y/n!” He was yelling in your face, spit hitting your cheek as you sobbed.
An elbow poked your stomach, and your hands automatically hovered over your daughter protectively. “Then what did I- what did I- Eddie, what did I do?” Your words broke apart through stringed cries. “Why are you so- so angry all the time and..and-”
“God, y/n, I just can’t do this, right now, okay?” He held up his hands to silence you, face strained. “I’m gonna- I’m just gonna go to Gareth’s, alright? Go to sleep. I’ll be back later.”
You gasped through tears as you watched him grab his keys. “No, Eddie, please I don’t want you to l-leave!”
He hurried out of your house and left you alone, muttering under his breath words you could not hear. You grasped your stomach steadily, knees buckling as you sobbed, piercing sobs that made your throat fill with sick. You had the urge to chase after him, but you felt frozen, hands coming up to cover your face as you wobbled.
You groaned when you felt a sharp pain dig into your abdomen, but it was not a kick that time, and you gasped as you placed a hand on your stomach. Your eyes widened as you doubled over, grasping the counter top as you moaned painfully at the stingy tightening of your stomach. “Oh, no.” You cried.
No, no, no. This- this was too early. Seven months was too early. This wasn’t labor was it? You weren’t sure, but you’d never felt this before, and you were already a mess, so you were sent into a panic. “No, no, no, honey, not now please-” You whimpered, eyes squeezing shut at the pain.
You sobbed as you grabbed the telephone, dialing the number you’d had memorized. You figured you should of tried to contact Eddie, calling Gareth and letting him know what was going on, but you found yourself calling Wayne.
“Hello?”
“Wayne!” You gasped tearfully. “God, Wayne, I think I’m in labor! Please, I don’t know-”
“Hey, hey, slow down, kiddo,” His voice comforted you slowly through the phone. “What’s going on?”
“I don’t know!” You sobbed, folding over as your legs shook. “I don’t know! I don’t know! I’m so scared, Wayne! I think something’s wrong and Eddie, he’s- he left and,”
“Woah, what? He left? What happened, y/n? Are you alright?” You could hear the jingle of his keys through the line.
“We fought and he- got so mad and he just left! He’s so…god, he’s so mad, Wayne! And- oh, ow, ow, ow!” You gritted your teeth as your hand squeezed the phone, a pulling at the front of your stomach. “Wayne, I think something’s wrong! The baby I-”
“Y/n, calm down, kiddo. I’m on the way, alright? I’ll be there in five minutes, okay? Don’t panic.”
You sobbed into the receiver and your knees buckled once again, and you had to drop the phone to hold yourself up on the counter. You could hear Wayne speaking, but you couldn’t understand his words. You were gasping, panicking. The pain really wasn’t even all that terrible, but your anxiety was making it seem much worse. Your vision blurred, your head spun, and before you knew it, your fight or flight mode kicked in, and you were sent to the floor, no longer able to endure the night.
•
“What you were experiencing is what we call Braxton hicks contractions. They’re not uncommon this close to your due date, but seven months isn’t an ideal time to deliver your baby. We have had babies come that early, but it’s usually due to medical problems or untreated diagnosis that we didn’t catch during the ultra sound. False labor is extremely common in this stage, Ms. L/n, so I can assure you not to worry. Lots of environmental factors can influence the process. Have you had anything going on lately that you’d like to share?”
You were laying down in a hospital bed, clad in a scratchy gown with your hair in a loose ponytail that Wayne had put up for you. It may seem out of his character, but he’d put young Eddie’s hair up several times when he’d complain about not being able to see. He refused to let his Uncle cut it, so up it went.
It was four hours later since he’d brought you to the emergency room, and after countless tests and procedures, you lay resting and nearly half asleep. Your pain had subsided long ago, only your muscles twitching from your nerves being shot. Wayne had kept asking you if you wanted him to get ahold of Eddie, but once you knew for sure that nothing was seriously wrong with you, you told him not to bother him. He obviously didn’t want to be around you, anyways. You felt completely outcasted. Heartbroken.
“Just a stressful night, I guess.” You answered meekly, meeting the Emergency Room Doctor’s eyes, a tall, slender man with glasses and dark hair.
“Must of been extremely stressful to send you into early labor.” The man narrowed his eyes, frowning as he looked to Wayne, who sat beside you. “Try and take these last months easy, okay? We want the baby to come as close to the due date as possible. It’s not ideal to have early labor pains at this stage, and leading a stressful life is certainly not good for mother and child.” The doctors tone had completely changed, making Wayne sigh and pat your shoulder.
“She’ll be in good hands, doc.” He nodded, voice rough and tired. It was nearly five o’clock in the morning. “Thank you.”
The man nodded. “Why don’t you both stay the night? She looks like she needs it.” He gestured to you with a smile, and your lips barely twitched up, trying to be polite. But all you wanted to do was cry.
You leaned your head back against the bed, hands protectively holding your unborn daughter. As soon as the doctor had left the room and closed the door, you burst into tears.
“Hey, now,” Wayne’s hand found your forearm. “There’s nothing to be worried about. Baby’s okay.”
You nodded, face scrunched together in tired, hoarse tears, small whimpers quivering your lips. “I know. I just…I wish Eddie was here.”
“You want me to go find him?”
You shook your head and sobbed. “We shouldn’t bother him. He..he just wants to be left alone. Oh, god, Wayne what did I do? I have no idea why he’s so…so distant and cold. I’m so scared he’s gonna leave me.” You sobbed, grabbing his hand. You were exhausted, words cracking and almost too quiet to hear. You needed to sleep. You’d done nothing but rant and cry to the man for hours now.
“Hey, hey, shh, kiddo.” His hand came up to your hair, trying to calm you down as the sleeve of his red flannel tickled your cheek. “You let me worry about Eddie, okay. You just get your rest, now.” He shushed you gently and held your hands while you cried yourself to sleep, and he stayed until you were completely out of it. Once you were in deep sleep, he covered you up with a blanket, turned out the lamp on the beside table, and left to go kick his nephew’s ass.
•
You could hear the slow, steady beating of your heart monitor in your ear, the hum of people’s voices outside in the halls and sharp footsteps. You felt weight on your legs, sunshine illuminating your face. You opened your eyes slowly, and the first thing you saw was jet black curls. His hand was holding yours, the other placed on the swell of your belly while his head lay on your lap. Your heart skipped a beat at the sight.
You blinked tiredly and looked around the room for a clock until you found it on the wall, reading that it was a quarter passed noon. You stifled a yawn and looked back down to your loved, bringing your had to his mane and stroking your fingers through his locks. You laid your head back against the pillow, closing your eyes as an uncomfortable ache set in your lower back.
“Not gonna be easy on momma today, huh?” You whispered to your belly, causing him to stir on your lap. You clamped your mouth shut, hoping he’d fall back asleep. He turned his eyes and fluttered his lids open, and once his iris’s found yours, he sat up quickly. “Hey.” He breathed in deeply, scooting closer to the bed. “Hey, sweetheart, how you feeling?”
You swallowed and nodded, sniffling. “M’ okay.”
He nodded back, hands squeezing your own. “You sure? Need me to get the doctor or anything?”
“No, no, I’m fine.” You assured, feeling awkward as you struggled with what to say. “I thought…I thought you had to work today.” You tried pushing the spotlight off yourself.
“I took off.“ He examined your face, narrowing his eyes slightly. “Are you sure you’re okay? You look pale. Are you hungry?”
“Eddie, I’m fine.” You sighed, grabbing his hand in exhaustion. The sleep didn’t seem to do you much good.
Silence ensued, and you both locked eyes, the air thick with tension and stress. Eddie licked his lips, eyes flickering between your face and your belly, brows furrowing together as he tried to speak. “Y/n,” He sighed heavily, scrunching his eyes closed. “Baby, I am so, so sorry.”
You swallowed quietly. “Eddie, it’s-”
“No, no, please,” He held a hand up, voice almost shaking as he struggled to not have a panic attack. “Please, let me say this.”
Your eyes widened a little bit, but you nodded, apprehensive about what he wanted to say. You were too tired to have another argument. Eddie looked physically the sick, the longer you looked at him, watching as he remained quiet and stared at your interlocked hands. “I’ve been having these nightmares,” His free hand fiddled with the ends of the scratchy hospital blanket. “That’s why I’ve been sleeping on the couch. I don’t..well, I don’t want to wake you.”
Your tired eyes narrowed down at him. He was talking. And from the sound of his tone, it was something that was really bothering him. “What are they about?”
His eyes traveled to your belly, bringing up his hand to ghost above your navel. “Dad.” It was barely over a mumble.
Your lips parted slightly, giving a small nod. “Do you want to tell me about them?”
The bags under his eyes looked the color of ripe plums, his skin pale white against the sharp color, making them stand out. His eyes were piercing into deep concentration. “I…I keep remembering things from when I was a kid. Just random…random memories that I’d forgotten about.”
You knew it was dangerous territory when it came to talking about his father. You knew better than to bring it up. Everyone knew better. The only person who had the right, was Wayne, because he understood it on a deeper level. He had been there.
“He hated that I kept my hair long.” He was staring at your belly, but his eyes were long in the past, his iris’s screening a movie that you could almost sit and watch. “He use to..he used to call me a…fag because of it. Said it made me look to much like a girl.”
Your instincts were to shower him with love and pull him close, but he was opening up and you didn’t want to smother him. You kept quiet.
“When I was ten he made me buzz it.” He sighed heavily, dark curls humming over his exhaling chest. “I know it sounds dramatic but…it really did break my heart. I thought I’d never get over it. He said if I didn’t then…then he’d beat me within an inch of my life, and he wasn’t the kind of guy to give empty threats. If I had been older I would of fought back but..I was young. Scared.”
Tears were quietly dampening the plush of your cheeks. How could you not cry?
His hand dropped from your belly to run through his hair, squeezing it lightly from the memory. “And once I had smarted off about not wanting to eat dinner, so he..he smashed my face into the plate and held me there to make me eat it. See the bump here,” His finger went to his slender nose, eyes finally flickering to your face for a brief moment. He didn’t miss the tear tracks. “Never fully healed right.”
He took a shallow breath, looking at the blankets as he fluttered his eyes closed in thought. “I’m just..y/n, I’m,” Your hand squeezed his tightly, your other holding his wrist. Tiny sniffles left your nose.
He looked like he was in so much pain, and he kept opening his mouth to speak, but he couldn’t get the words to come out. “I’m..so scared that I’m..that I’m gonna end up like him. He drove mom away. He drove Wayne away. And I just..I don’t wanna,” His voice broke and you bit your lip to keep from crying out.
“God, y/n, I’m so, so sorry.” He pleaded with shiny eyes. “I’ve been trying so hard not to..fuck things up and I’ve already done it. I’m already pushing you away and- and, honey, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay.” You rushed, leaning up to grab his shoulders. “Eddie, it’s-”
“No.” He shook his head firmly, sniffling. “No, don’t say it’s okay. It’s not okay. I’ve been nothing but a jerk to you lately. There’s no excuse for it.” He silenced your reassurances, making you go quiet. You had to lean back down, because the baby inside of your stomach was having an absolute dance party in your uterus.
“Are you alright?” He sat up more.
You nodded quickly. “Yeah. Dumplin’s just awake, is all.”
He smiled softly at the name, eyes narrowing slightly in amusement. “Dumplin?”
You giggled quietly. “Just a nickname. I haven’t been able to actually think of real names.”
His hand went to your belly again, softly rubbing your swell to try and find his daughter. You took his hand and placed it on the upper right side of your abdomen. You both laughed when she kicked, yours more of a strained groan from the uncomfortable fist bump.
“The first time I saw you,” He patted your belly and looked up to you, only a mere few inches between your noses. “I knew right then that I was gonna marry you. We were in the cafeteria at school. I was sitting there with Dustin and Gareth and as soon as you walked in, my jaw just…I mean, it literally dropped.” He chuckled at the memory, eyes brightening to life. “I looked to them and I said, “Guys she’s the one. That’s the girl I’m gonna marry. Just you wait and see.”
You smiled at the confession, eyes still swelled with tears. His smile turned lopsided, frowning as his eyes drifted down. “And I’m- I’m so scared of loosing you, y/n. I’m so scared of turning out like..like him and driving you away from me. I don’t..I don’t want our daughter to be afraid of me. I’m just so scared, baby. I’m so sorry for everything I’ve done I’m just so, so scared.”
“Hey, hey, it’s okay.” You grabbed his cheek, a singular, salty tear rolling down his sculptured cheekbone. “Eddie..Eddie, honey it’s alright. Come here.” You grabbed his arm and pulled him up to lay next to you, and you wrapped your arms around his midsections, allowing him to tuck his head on your chest. You kissed the top of his head. “I’m scared too, you know? I’m trying so hard to do things right to keep her healthy. It’s overwhelming how much there is you have to consider. And when she actually comes? God, it terrifies me just thinking about it.” You gulped, his curls soft against your neck.
You felt a tear drip onto your skin, and you looked down to grip his chin. “Hey,” You lifted his face so you could look into his eyes. “You might not believe it, but I know that you’re going to be a great dad, and I’m..I’m going to be the best mother I can be, even though I’m scared out of my mind. We can be scared, Eddie. It doesn’t mean we’re not ready for this.”
His fingers wrapped around your wrist, his lips finding your pulse point as he nodded softly. “I’m so sorry, y/n.” He said again, shuttering out a breath. “Please, forgive me. I’m so, so sorry. I’m so sorry. God, just…just kick me to the curb. Throw all my shit out the window. Ban me from Hellfire nights. Anything.” He buried his face in your neck and you laughed, bringing your hand up to his hair.
“You really think I have the power to keep you from going to Hellfire?”
There was a beat of silence. “Probably not.”
His smile tickled your neck and you giggled, scrunching up the blanket closer to you. “But I do think some punishment is in order. I’ve been a shit head.” He lifted his legs off the floor to tangled with yours, arm draped over your stomach. “Any ideas?”
“You could take me to Denny’s for some chocolate chip pancakes.” Your mouth watered at the very mention, a happy squeak in your voice at the idea. “Me and dumplin are hungry.”
“You and dumplin are gonna make me go bankrupt if I keep having to treat you out to denny’s every week.” He teased playfully, situating himself to where he was holding you now.
“Sorry.” You said bashfully, earning a tsk from him. “Shut up.” He chuckled. “I’m kidding.”
He tucked his chin atop of your head, giving you a quick peck as he rubbed up and down your arm. “You know, I’ve been thinkin’ of some baby names.”
“You have?” You peeked up. “What are they?”
“Well, I don’t know if you’re gonna care for them too much.” He warned. “Honestly, I wasn’t planning on even mentioning them.”
“They can’t be that bad.” You played with the buttons on his jacket. “Come on, I wanna know.”
He raised his brows in a sigh. “Well, how bout..Arwen?”
You looked up to him quickly. “Arwen? From like Lord of the Rings?”
He had an amused look on his face. “Yeah! Why not? Or maybe Galadriel?”
“You wanna name our baby Galadriel?”
“I thought it sounded sophisticated.”
You playfully slapped his chest as he laughed into your hair, pink lips spread into a deep smile. “Well, there was one other name I thought about.”
You hummed to encourage him on.
“How bout Joanna?”
Your lips had parted to give criticism, but the name was pretty. “Huh.” You paused. “Joanna.”
He smiled widely as he looked down. “Did good, did I? Joanna Munson.”
He looked off towards the room like he was seeing visions from the future, and you couldn’t look away from your belly, an emotional lump building in your chest. “Joanna Munson. That’s…that’s really pretty, Eddie.” Your voice had cracked and he was back on you.
“Now, it’s not worth crying over, sweetheart.” He chuckled, wiping a tear from your eye. He laid you both back so you could be comfortable, his arms holding you tight. You both stared at each other, your hand flat against his chest.
“You’re going to be such a good dad, Eddie.”
Eddie said nothing, but he didn’t have to. He placed his lips on your forehead, pressing softly as he lulled you back to sleep. Pancakes could wait. You needed your sleep.
And in exactly fifty two days, you both would introduce the world to Joanna Lorraine Munson.

I only have eyes for you
Requested by anon.
Summary; Y/n and eddie have been dating for a while, he starts dealing with Chrissy and at first, everything is fine then Chrissy begins to pop up everywhere.
She soon grows insecure as Chrissy starts taking her place in everything involving Eddie even crashing their precious movie nights and having an obvious crush on Eddie.
When Eddie finds out y/n's fears he tells Chrissy assuming she will find it as crazy as he does because no way does Chrissy have feelings for him.
She does and Eddie is quick to tell Chrissy that y/n is the only girl for him and quick to prove it to y/n that he only has eyes for her.
Warnings; angst, jealousy, insecure reader, fighting, fluff.
Likes, comments and reblogs are much appreciated! ❤💞 I do not give anyone permission to copy my work.
💞💞
At first, everything was fine. Y/n knew that Eddie he'd started doing deals with Chrissy and while the girl was obviously very pretty and Hawkins Queen she trusted Eddie.
When he told her she wasn't really fussed, more shocked than anything that Chrissy was doing drugs in the first place but not nervous or anything about Eddie meeting her.
That feeling lasted for only a week.
Chrissy had been dating Jason for such a long time so when they broke up it was a shock to everyone.
The timing felt funny to y/n, she starts these deals with Eddie and then not long after breaks up with Jason? The implications made y/n's stomach turn.
She trusted Eddie but Chrissy? She wasn't sure if she trusted her so much.
Her suspicions were proven correct when as soon as Chrissy broke up with Jason she had begun to sit with Hellfire.
Well if she was being honest Eddie invited her but only to be a good friend. He was the sweetest guy.
That wasn't so bad. Until she took y/n's spot at Eddie's side at the Hellfire table.
Eddie noticed how tense she looked because of that and would cuddle her on his knee and it soothed the sinking feeling in her stomach.
Still, as much as she trusted Eddie doubt began to creep in. Chrissy was popular, pretty, and a cheerleader. Could she steal Eddie? Turn his head to her and make him fall for those big blue eyes and pretty smile.
Y/n felt sick at the thought and things only got worse from there. She noticed the way Chrissy would flirt subtly with Eddie, bat her eyes at him, touch his arm, his waist.
Eddie even offered to pick Chrissy up from school in the mornings because her car had broke down.
Chrissy sat in front chatting happily to Eddie and she was relegated to the back of the van feeling rejected and out of place.
Tonight was movie night. Their one special night to themselves that no one encroached on yet who turned up?
Chrissy. Who came knocking at Eddie's door with a shy smile and asked to join them. Not wanting to be mean she had agreed but the movie passed and the sick feeling in her stomach began to grow.
Eddie and Chrissy chatted throughout the movie, at this point the girl was so close to Eddie she was practically sitting on his lap. Right in front of her.
Annoyance began to fester inside her slowly from that day.
❤💞
A full week had passed since the movie night debacle. Their sacred movie night. Now it turned out to be movie night that included Chrissy as well.
It felt like she couldn't get five minutes alone with Eddie. The only time they did was late at night when they could talk and make love and just be alone together.
Chrissy was everywhere, Chrissy, Chrissy, Chrissy. Her impatience was growing and she had no clue how Eddie didn't notice that Chrissy wanted him.
His cluelessness coupled with Chrissy's actions was pushing her closer and closer to snapping.
It was just lucky that tonight they finally had a night alone. If she saw Chrissy around one more time then she was going to have serious words with the girl.
She cuddles into Eddie's arms and he strokes her hair, pressing kisses to her forehead.
The phone rings but she doesn't think anything of it and assumes it's maybe her parents calling to check that she's okay or maybe Eddie's uncle Wayne.
It's not either of them. When she hears Eddie say Chrissy's name she stiffens. Eddie takes the phone away from his ear and says to her all sweet and soft.
"Princess, Chrissy is feeling lonely do you mind if she comes to join us for movie night?"
Again?? When was Chrissy going to get the hint that Eddie was taken? When would Eddie realise that this was bothering her and that Chrissy was after him? Didn't he notice the looks she gave him?
Frustrated she feels tears slide down her cheek and Eddie's eyes widen. He mumbles an excuse to Chrissy and puts the phone down.
"Baby, hey baby. Look at me. What's wrong?". She moves away from him wiping her tears away.
"What's wrong? It's fucking Chrissy. She's everywhere just now, she's always around and I'm sick of it. I just want one night with my boyfriend where she isn't in the picture!".
Eddie gapes at her sudden outburst and she finds that now she's started she can't stop.
"She wants you, Eddie, she wants to take you away from me. Don't you see the way she looks at you? And now she's calling because she's lonely?"
"Once again she's interrupting our special night together! It's not fucking right and I'm sick of her disrespecting me and my boundaries, our boundaries".
Eddie sits stunned through the whole conversation then finally speaks.
"Princess, that's crazy Chrissy doesn't like me. We are just friends. Jesus Christ sweetheart I only have eyes for you baby, I think you're mistaken".
Mistaken. She fumes and shakes her head.
"I'm sick of this shit Eddie, it isn't right. Even the Hellfire boys are starting to notice. You're taken and yet she still flirts with you and does all this shit. I'm just fed up with it". She storms away from him slamming the door fo his room and curls up on his bed crying from the frustration and feeling like at any minute she could lose Eddie.
❤💞
Eddie is a wreck. He followed y/n to bed after her outburst but she wouldn't even let him hold her, this morning she barely talked to him and just looked so defeated the minute they went to pick up Chrissy.
His stomach was churning, he was devastated. Shit y/n was the love of his life, his future was with her and she was all he wanted.
Not Chrissy, never, she was just a friend that's all. Speaking of Chrissy he had to meet her to do a deal, he would tell her what y/n said and they would both laugh at how ridiculous it was.
Chrissy joins him just as he settles in the spot in the woods where he does his deals.
"Hey, I noticed you and y/n weren't really talking or she's not speaking to you. What happened?". He's glad she brought this up so he they can both agree how ridiculous her having a crush on him is.
"So uh, had an interesting conversation with y/n last night and she had this totally crazy idea that you have feelings for me? Insane right?".
Chrissy blushes and he suddenly gets a very bad feeling.
"Not so crazy no, I actually I do have feelings for you Eddie, y/n is right, I really love how sweet and kind you are". Eddie stops thinking at that moment, he's pretty sure that he's misheard her but the look on her face is very serious.
Fuck. Did he do this? By inviting her to Hellfire and picking her up from school was he unintentionally egging on her feelings.
He feels like a total jerk and when Chrissy's hand inches toward his he wrenches his away.
No no NO!
"No, look Chrissy you're sweet and I'm truly sorry if I lead you on. That was not my intention. I was just being your friend that's all. I'm not interested in you like that, only as a friend. Y/n is the love of my life and I'm head over heels in love with her. Nothing is ever going to happen that way between us".
Chrissy nods and he sighs shaking his head.
"I'm not even sure if I should continue our friendship, Chrissy, you know I'm with y/n but you still thought something could happen and I don't like that. I am not putting my relationship at risk for you".
Chrissy blushes and begins to apologise.
"I'm so sorry, I thought I was being discreet and I really wasn't. I'm sorry I hurt y/n and put you in this uncomfortable position. You were always just so nice and sweet, the total opposite of Jason and that's what I liked. I truly never wanted to jeopardise your relationship".
He nods.
"I have to go, find my girl and reassure her that she's the only one for me". Chrissy urges him to go and he jogs off to find y/n.
💞
Eddie comes up to her just before lunch break ends, he pants having run fast to catch up with her and she cups his cheek.
"Ed's?"
He wraps his arms around her.
"I'm sorry, should have believed you about Chrissy. I was doing a deal with her and told her what you said, she was wondering why you were giving me the cold shoulder and then I told her and she admitted she had feelings for me".
Y/n freezes finally knowing the truth. She was right but it doesn't make her feel any better, she still feels upset and a little insecure.
Eddie gazes at her, his eyes full of love and devotion.
"I told her that you are the only girl for me, the love of my life and nothing would ever happen. That I didn't know if I should continue our friendship because she constantly made you feel upset and uncomfortable, she apologised and all but I'm still pissed to be honest".
She cuddles into Eddie relaxing a little and he sighs content.
"Missed you in my arms princess". Her lip wobbles and she kisses him.
"M sorry Eddie, I trust you so much it's just Chrissy made me a little insecure and I got worried yeah. She was always around and I just exploded on you, I'd just had enough".
He strokes her hair and looks deep into her eyes.
"Sweetheart I can't imagine ever being with anyone else. You are my soulmate, I only have eyes for you. Shit, I dream about proposing to you, maybe after graduation or maybe a year or two after, settling down, starting a family. Being a better dad than my shithead one ever was".
She cries from pure happiness. The future sounds perfect.
"You'll be an amazing daddy Eddie and whenever you propose just know I'm gonna say yes, I love you so much". He smiles and kisses her forehead.
"I love you to princess".

Prom Date
Summary; Eddie finally realises his feelings for y/n when he finds out she's going to the prom with, Steve.
Warnings; Angst to fluff.
I do not give anyone permission to copy my work.
Reblogs, comments etc mean the world to me ❤
❤
"So prom is in a week". Y/n decided to sway the discussion away from D&D just for a second and also she was planning to ask her longtime crush Eddie to prom.
"More conforming bullshit". Eddie mutters as he nibbles on his lunch and her heart sinks.
"You don't think it would be fun to go?". She asks trying to stay hopeful but he shakes his head.
"Wouldn't be saying that if it was Chrissy on his arm". Gareth teases Eddie whose cheeks go pink.
This is the thing that kills all of her confidence to ask him. She wasn't Chrissy, far from it and Eddie would never return her feelings.
It seemed silly now but she had this fantasy of wearing a beautiful prom dress and slow dancing with Eddie to a cute love song.
That wasn't meant to be though and she shrugs sadly.
"Right. Chrissy".
❤
She heads to Family Video right after school and her mind is racing, heart sore as she explains to Robin and Steve what happened.
"I couldn't even get the words out, it sucks because all I've ever been dreaming of these last few months is to go to prom with Eddie but of course, he thinks it's Bullshit unless Chrissy was involved".
Robin gently rubs her back.
"You could come with Vickie and me? It will be so much fun! We will have such a good time! Vickie won't mind if we explain what happened". She softens.
"Robin, it's you and Vickie's first big night together and it's prom. So no I'm not crashing on that". Robin's eyes light up.
"How about if you went with Steve? Then we could all go together?". It sounds like a nice idea and she looks at Steve who agrees.
"Hey, take my favourite ladies to prom? Absolutely". With that settled she begins to feel excited about prom again and plans her outfit with Robin.
💞💞
Five days until prom.
The weekend passes in a haze of prom planning and she has found the most beautiful dress too.
It finally seems to be hitting some of the Hellfire Boys that prom is very soon as they have already started scrambling around for dates.
Eddie is planning to go with Jeff and Gareth and do some last-minute deals and get drunk.
Jeff smiles at her as she sits down and the way he looks at her makes her pause. Shit. She's sure she knows what's about to happen.
"So, y/n you can go to prom with one of us right?". She immediately feels their eyes on her and is a little flustered.
"I uh". Gareth pipes up and grins.
"It's perfect. If you go with Eddie then I can ask Sarah to the prom?". This annoys her. Was that all she was? A date of convenience. Could Eddie not ask her himself? Did he even want to go with her?
In her fantasies, him asking her was romantic not like this.
"I can't go with any of you. I have a date". This shuts them all up and Eddie's gaze locks onto her intently.
"Who are you going with?". She squirms and sips some water.
"Steve, all of you thought it was some big joke when I mentioned prom and it isn't. I wanted the pretty dress and to dance with the guy I liked but he didn't ask and Steve was sweet to agree to Robin's idea".
They are all silent, especially Eddie.
"I'm not a second choice either guys, Im not a second choice to Chrissy. I want my prom to be special". She gets up and leaves feeling a little lighter that her feelings have come out.
❤
Prom night
She spent the afternoon with Robin and Vickie getting ready. The dress she's chosen is so pretty and fits her perfectly. Vickie does her and Robin's make-up and Steve arrives looking really handsome in his tux.
He hands her a gorgeous pink corsage and she accepts it happy to be with her friends on this night.
They all get in Steve's car and excited chatter fills the air as they reach Hawkins High and head into the gymnasium where prom is being held.
The minute she heads inside she spots Eddie with Jeff and Gareth, he looks handsome in an all-black suit, a Hellfire patch sewn on the suit jacket.
It makes her smile. He catches her eye and it sends butterflies through her stomach when he gapes.
Steve comes up to her and offers her punch and she's distracted from Eddie for a second missing the way his eyes flash at Steve who takes her hand and spins her around until she's giggling and he leads her onto the dancefloor with Steve.
❤
Steve is dancing with Nancy and she watches them both feeling happy that they are reconnecting.
The minute Steve as Nancy sitting with her friends and looking longingly at the couples dancing she urged Steve to go and dance with her.
There's a gentle tap on her shoulder and she turns around to find Eddie looking at her nervous.
"Can I have this dance princess?". She slips her hand through his and he squeezes it as he leads her to the dancefloor.
"Jesus H Christ you look, beautiful sweetheart". He murmurs to her and she grins wrapping her as around his neck.
"You look good yourself Eddie". A faint tinge coats his cheeks.
"I should have asked you to prom, he admits to her. Hearing you talk about going with Steve and then seeing you with him? I didn't like it one bit, in fact, I was jealous".
He was jealous.
"Eddie... I wanted you to ask me" He strokes her cheek and she leans into his touch.
"I'm sorry it took me so fucking long to see what's been right in front of me all along sweetheart".
"But Chrissy?".
"What about her? She's pretty and all princess but she isn't you. She isn't my best friend or the most beautiful, girl in the world to me to me. You are". He leans down and kisses her tenderly, she returns the kiss on cloud nine.
It's everything she's ever wanted. He kisses her forehead and then her cheeks and to her lips.
She's at the prom. Dancing to a love song with the guy she's adored all of her life who is looking at her with reverence and holding her right against his chest.
It was perfect.

ANGST Eddie Munson x reader
𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚: Eddie loves Y/n and Y/n loves Eddie, but Steve gets in the way
A/N: PART 1 Here
Steve said he approved of Y/n liking Eddie Munson. The freak. But it wasn’t really the truth. Part of him still had many doubts about the guy, about everything actually. Why Eddie? What did that Munson have that others hadn’t? Steve couldn’t figure it out. It wasn’t that he was interested in Y/n. There had been a moment in which he had, but then Nancy had come along and well, Y/n had become his best friend instead. So no, it wasn’t that, it was rather the fact that he felt like a big brother to Y/n, and he just didn’t want to see her getting heart broken in any way. And he knew Munson was trouble, he had always been. And if the Freak himself wasn’t trouble, the others would be. Y/n would be picked on, marginalised. And that just wasn’t something Steve wanted her to feel.
So he did something stupid and reckless, stupid enough to ruin Y/n’s relationship with the guy she was in love with.
He organised a double date. And Eddie wasn’t included in his plans.

Y/n and Robin drove up to Danny’s diner, just outside town. They were pretty hyped up, ready for the gossips, the chatting, the laughing so hard that their ribs hurt. But when they parked outside the restaurant and approached Steve, their best friend, he wasn’t alone. There was also another guy with him, one Y/n only knew by name but to whom she had never spoken to.
This didn’t feel right.
“Oh dear” sighed Robin, and damn it, she was pretty right.
This was a double date, the funny thing being Robin having to go with Steve as her date. The thought just made Y/n laugh. But what didn’t make her laugh at all, when she realised it, was the fact that Steve knew she was already thinking about someone else… so what was he up to?
They went in. Both Y/n and Robin, although really embarrassed, tried their best to play the part. They actually had a great time, eating and chatting with this guy, Malcolm Anderson. He was funny and witty, popular and played Basketball for the school. Y/n saw what Steve was trying to tell her, he didn’t approve of who she loved and this was his way of telling her. Of finding her a replacement. A better fit. But instead of feeling grateful, she felt hurt by this, by the fact that Steve had simply lied to her face and told her she had his support and understanding, rather than telling her the truth from the beginning. Heck, he hadn’t even asked her opinion before setting her a blind date. That was wrong. To deceive a poor guy this way. To play with others feelings. With her feelings.
But Steve hadn’t stopped there. And the worst part was yet to come.
After about an hour of them sitting there, beside the window in Benny’s diner, Robin kicked Y/n’s leg under the table.
“Ouch!”
Robin’s eyes widened and she pointed towards Y/n’s right with her head. And Y/n’s heart froze, as she saw Eddie getting out of his truck with Dustin and Mike.
Eddie would see her. And Steve probably knew the guys would be coming there that night, because Dustin always told him everything. Y/n tried to stay calm. Eddie wasn’t interested in her, she repeated herself. And even if he actually was… she could just explain everything to him, explain that she never wanted any of this and she would rather be with him. She somewhat hoped that this second scenario would take place rather than the first.
So she put a smile on, and tried her best to keep her cool. And Robin too, although everyone could see how on edge she was.
Eddie entered the diner, and as if he had just been splashed with ice cold water in the face, he gave their table a puzzled look. That then turned into a really fake grin toward Y/n, and then just a sort of straight line crossing his face. He turned around, and walked away rapidly. Y/n felt sick. Did she just imagine that expression on Eddie’s face? Had she really seen all of her possibilities with him flying away like little birds, in that precise instant?
Anger was growing inside of her, towards Steve and this Malcolm guy, even though it wasn’t his fault. She wanted to run away, or rather to run to Eddie and put her arms around him, just like she always did in her dreams. But no, she was stuck. She looked up at Robin, and her friend tried to give her the most positive smile, but it wasn’t enough.

They stayed there for what seemed like eternity, talking about school and other stupid things. Or at least the others talked… Y/n just kept staring at Eddie, who was sitting just a few tables away from her, hoping it wasn’t too late to patch things up.
Finally, the guys decided they wanted to go and pay, leaving Y/n alone with Robin.
“I think you should go and talk to him Y/n, before anything else happens” Robin whispered in her ear, she too seemed irritated.
And she knew Robin was right, so she walked towards Eddie, but as soon as she called for him, Malcolm was once again by her side, now with a hand on her waist, pulling her closer to him. And fate made Eddie turn around right then.
Perfect, just what she needed. She gave Eddie the warmest smile she could master, trying to tell him in a silent way, with her eyes, what the truth was. That she loved him. And that this wasn’t real. But she knew how it looked and she knew Eddie well enough to know that he was losing it.
Eddie felt heart broken, even though the two of them were only friends, even though they had never shared anything more than a few hugs. He felt broken. A broke promise. He couldn’t find the strength to reciprocate the smile she was giving him. And he couldn’t care less. He felt he needed to impress her, to show her that he didn’t need her in any way, that he didn’t care. And he did the first thing that he thought of, the stupidest actually. He stood up, went up to some girl, said something to her in the ear, as if they actually knew each-other, and started making out with her. On the spot.
“Gross, how did that freak get Janette Wilson?” Malcolm said to Y/n in a lower tone.
But Y/n’s wasn’t listening, not anymore. The only thing she could hear was her heart breaking into million pieces, inside her chest. It’s funny how love works, how beautiful yet terrible it can be, how nice yet hurtful it can feel. Was he in love with someone else? Someone she didn’t know?
Y/n ran away as fast as she could, taking Robin by the arm as they ventured into the night, tears falling carelessly from Y/n’s eyes. And they drove off, Steve and Malcolm completely forgotten.

Summary; y/n plans to tell Eddie how she feels about him. They've grown close since her brother Dustin introduced them.
Turns out Eddie has a date with his dream girl Chrissy Cunningham and her plans are dashed.
She's missed her chance or so she thinks.
Warnings; Angst with a happy ending ❤
❤
There was a selection of movies on the bed and candles were lit. With trepidation, y/n waited for Eddie to arrive.
Tonight she was going to tell Eddie how she felt about him. They had been hanging out for weeks now ever since Dustin introduced them.
From the minute they met, she thought he was sexy and those brown eyes of his made her melt. Getting to know him solidified her desire for him.
Dustin teased her relentlessly about her crush and she swore the little shit was just looking for ways to embarrass her.
Hopefully once Eddie brought him home Dustin would leave them to talk...
It's around fifteen minutes later when she hears Dustin's voice. Then Eddie's and someone else... Chrissy Cunningham.
She liked Chrissy, they got on well but she also knew Eddie used to have a crush on her so she still felt a little inferior to the pretty strawberry blonde.
What was she doing here? The minute she sees Dustin's look of pity she knows exactly what is going on.
Clearly, Eddie's crush was still ongoing and she smiles shyly at Chrissy, nods to Eddie and rushes to her room wiping her tears away.
God, she was so stupid. Why did she think Eddie would ever want her?
Eddie comes into her room and she works a smile onto her features. She needs to be happy for him no matter how sad she's feeling.
He looks around at the candles and carefully selected movie. "Hot date?". He beams and she blows out the candles shaking her head.
Not anymore. She was foolish to think that there could be one. "No, but hey Chrissy Cunningham? I take it you asked her out?".
He nods "Yeah, after Hellfire. We are going to get some food, hang out". He looks so happy that she ignores her sinking heart.
"Im so happy for you Ed's". She kisses his cheek gently and he gazes at her for a few seconds longer than normal.
"Wish me luck".
He doesn't need it. He's so loveable she expects Chrissy will fall head over heels but wishes him it anyway, watching as he leaves with his arm around Chrissy.
Her heart shatters.
❤
Eddie should be delighted he was on a date with his dream girl Chrissy but all he could think about was Dustin's sister y/n.
They hadent been friends very long, truthfully he had no idea that the little shrimp Dustin had a sister, let alone she was an absolute sweetheart, as sweet as Chrissy and worked with Nancy on the school paper.
They bonded over teasing Henderson, Dungeons and Dragons and their love of horror movies.
He loved her smile and the way she was kind to everyone- even that prick Jason. He loved that she wore pretty dresses and constantly had flowers in her hair.
It was driving him nuts because even now with Chrissy beside him all he could think about was y/n.
"Hey, you okay Eddie? You seem really distracted". He comes too and Chrissy is smiling at him. She's everything he's thought he's ever wanted since middle grade.
"Shit, I should be shouting from the rooftops right now because I'm on a date with fucking Chrissy Cunningham but there's this girl, she's Hendersons' sister y/n and...
Chrissy softens. "You're in love with her, it's okay. I kinda had my suspicions earlier but was waiting for you to say". She did?
"Am I that obvious?" Chrissy raises her eyebrows and giggles.
"Way obvious, God the way you look at her. Im not exactly over Jason either. This date made me realise that. I'd love if we could all be friends though, y/n is a sweetheart".
Friends with Jason? He hides his grimacs at that.
He does take in the words that Chrissy said and it's like a light bulb goes off in his head.
He's in love with y/n... Well shit. Chrissy beams and shoos him away as the realisation hits him.
"What are you waiting for go get her!". He gets up nearly falling over his own feet, bows in thanks to Chrissy and quickly drops her off at Carver's house before heading to the Hendersons.
He just hopes he's not too late and that she actually feels the same way.
❤
Dustin has been really sweet, he could tell that she was really down when Eddie told her about his date with Chrissy and brought her hot chocolate.
He even watched her favourite movie with her to cheer her up so he was definitely earning some little brother brownie points.
They are both surprised when the doorbell rings and Dustin answers looking surprised and Eddie walks in looking very sheepish.
"Hey, princess". It's barely been an hour? Why is he back from his date so early?
"Shouldn't you be with Chrissy?". He cocks his head to her bedroom door and she takes him in there for a little privacy.
"Eddie, what happened with Chrissy?" He sits on her bed and plays with her favourite cuddly bear.
"See the thing is that I should have been so happy being with Chrissy, on cloud nine but I wasn't because someone else was very much on my mind".
She notices the way he was looking at her and her belly filled with butterflies.
"Oh, who?". He motions her to sit beside him and strokes her cheek. "I think you know baby".
Heart hammering she teases him just a little bit. "Hmm, I might need a little more information".
He laughs dimples showing and kisses her tenderly. "I'm in love with you sweetheart and I really hope you feel the same way".
She cuddles into him and he presses gentle kisses to her hair. "I do feel the same, I love you. I was planning on telling you tonight".
His eyes widen and he swears. "Fuck, the candles, the movies. I'm sorry princess". She shakes her head.
"S'kay you didn't know...was Chrissy okay with everything? I don't want to hurt her. Especially if she really likes you"
He soothes her worries instantly. "We both realised the date was a mistake, she's going back to Carver, told me to go get my girl".
He gets up and takes out his lighter to light the candles again and she feels giddy.
"So sweetheart... Still up for that hot date?"
Yes, she is. Very much so.

You’re slipping through my fingertips
The one where Eddie breaks his arm crowd surfing at his concert and the doctor at the ER is his ex-girlfriend he left behind when he got the hell out of Hawkins.
pairing: Rockstar AU! Eddie Munson x ER Doctor Adopted! Hopper Female Reader
wc: 9.5K
warnings/tags: cursing, lovers to exes to strangers to lovers?, post-break up, make up, everything post s4 happened but eddie munson lives because I said so.
A/N: I don’t know why I’ve clung to adopted hopper reader but here we are. I have very little knowledge of how medical field works (my ten thousand nurse/doctor friends would be endlessly disappointed in me!) and bent it a little to fit the plot. Sorry!
Masterlist || AO3
When you were fourteen, you met Eddie Munson.
You were the new kid, first day of high school, and the cherry on top? The new deputy’s kid. Your dad had gotten a job offer in his hometown, Hawkins, and your mom hadn’t wanted to leave New York. After Sara…they fought all the time and when you’d chosen to go with your dad in the divorce, your mom had taken it as a betrayal. You’d begged him to choose anywhere else but he was adamant you’d love it. So here you were, a small, nosey, town in the middle of nowhere.
To your utter mortification, despite your student tour guide’s – Nancy Wheeler – multiple instructions, you couldn’t open your locker.
Anxious, pressure building behind your eyes, you tried for the tenth time. Suddenly, the locker next to yours slammed open and you jumped. A boy with bright wide eyes, a shaved head, and a nice smile blinded you. He’d taken the lock gently from your hands and with a kick to the door, it opened.
“The hinges stick. Jack, the guy who had it before you, always kicked it open.”
“Thanks,” you stammered.
“Yeah, anytime.” He shot you his own shy smile before disappearing around the corner.
And that had been all it took really. You had almost all your classes together that year and he got a kick out of your stories of New York. Eddie was constantly in motion -- hands flying, feet shuffling, head nodding – it was enticing.
After being assigned partners for some English project you couldn’t remember anymore, a few days before thanksgiving, he’d asked you out on a date.
You’d said yes.
And that was the beginning of everything.
Then – a few years later – Will Byers went missing. You got a little sister. Your father died. Eddie was accused of murder. You beat Vecna. Eddie almost died. Your father was alive. The town was too. You’d helped save the world.
And that was the end of everything.
When you were twenty, Eddie Munson left Hawkins - and you - behind.
“How many fucking times have I told you not to do that?” Claire hissed, her cellphone cradled between her shoulder and her ear. She’d been on hold for a few minutes, making sure everything – as always – was being fixed.
“A thousand times,” Eddie sighed, grunting when the EMTs tightened the sling around his neck. To be fair, Eddie hadn’t crowd surfed in a long time. It was something about being back in Indiana – to where it had all started – that made his skin itch. Hey, he never said he wasn’t reckless.
“This should hold it. We don’t know how bad the break is until you’ve gotten some x-rays so please refrain from moving it as much as you can. How’s the pain level?”
Eddie had experienced worse. A flash of demonic bats clawing at him and your shaking hands covered in his blood danced across his memory before he shoved it to the back of his mind. “It’s not too bad.”
“Is there a chance we can unload in the med bay?” Claire asked, finally putting down her cell phone. “We left the guards back at the arena and they won’t be here for a few minutes due to traffic.”
The EMTs assured his nervous manager that they’d be able to get him into the ER with discretion. “Thanks guys,” Eddie said, remembering the covert look of awe in the driver’s eyes. Corroded Coffin had only recently started selling out arenas and stadiums but Eddie knew what a fan looked like. “If you want me to sign anything, I can do it. My writing hand is still good.” He wiggled his right hand.
“For fuck’s sake Munson,” Claire muttered, her brick of a phone creaking in her grip. She watched as the technician sheepishly handed him three random scraps of paper to sign.
Eddie waited as the doors to the ambulance opened and he was wheeled into a chaotic emergency room. An older nurse walked up to him with a smile and a clip board. “Hello, I’m Nurse Johnson and I’ll be taking you over to one of our private rooms down the hall.”
Claire scrambled to introduce herself and Eddie, mentioning his bandmates who were likely to be by soon.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had a pretty big accident a few hours ago so we’re a little slow tonight. Our senior resident will be by to assess the situation shortly. Here’s the paperwork we’ll need and please rest assured Mr. Munson, we know how to be discreet. The journalists outside are not allowed anywhere inside,” she said, tone firm like she’d beat them herself if she had to.
“Thank you,” Eddie said, shooting the nurse a smile. She patted his good hand and finished setting him up in his bed.
“I can’t believe you’re this much of an idiot,” Claire said, settling in the comfy looking chair next to his bed. Her brows furrowed as she started filling out his paperwork. Eddie tried not to smile; Claire had been there with him since the beginning – the only manager willing to represent Corroded Coffin. “I had a date after the concert you know, life isn’t only centered around you.”
He clutched his chest, groaning when it pulled on his bad arm. “You’re telling me, that this tiny chunk of rock in this universe, does not revolve around the lead singer?”
“I hate you,” she said dryly. “She was really cute too.”
“Yeah?” Eddie quirked a brow. Claire always had dates – he wasn’t worried for her. “What’s her name?”
“Rain.”
He snorted, seriously? “Sounds like a dud.”
“You always say that!”
“And am I usually wrong?” He asked.
“Yes!”
“What about Brittany? Or Jacob?”
Claire glared at him and Eddie grinned, knowing he had her. “We promised never to say their names out loud again!” Her chair screeched painfully as she stood, clip board clutched to her chest and eyes narrowed in his direction. “I’m taking this to the nurse, you shithead, don’t do anything stupid while I’m gone.”
Eddie laughed as she walked out and shook his head. His arm really didn’t hurt much but he knew it was broken. Sighing, he knew he wouldn’t be able to play with it but he’d probably be fine to sing. What was their next city? Dallas? Chicago? They still had a few more national dates before their break. After those two weeks they were on to London.
Who did they have on standby for guitar? Jimmy? Fiona? Maybe Helene if she wasn’t busy…
“Claire?” Eddie called out. If they wanted to get Helene before she was booked for the year, they’d have to call soon.
The door opened and Eddie suddenly wasn’t sure he hadn’t actually hit head. His chest tightened, his lungs seemed like they didn’t want to work, and he was almost positive the ground shook beneath him.
“Hello sir, I apologize we’re a little short staffed at the moment. I’m Dr. Hopper, I’ll be taking care of you this evening. Let me just grab your chart Mr…” your voice trailed off, and Eddie watched as your hands tightened on the clip board in your hands. Then finally, finally, after almost ten years – your eyes darted back up to his.
“Eddie?”
Jesus Christ did he forget how he loved the way you said his name. “Hey Cap’,” he said, flashes of you in your soccer uniform bubbling to the surface. He’d once lost his voice during the championship junior year – it’d been your first year as captain and he knew how much you’d wanted to win. The image of you hoisting up the trophy in your arms, smile beaming and blowing him a kiss, was not one he’d be likely to forget.
You’d clearly grown up in the last decade. Your uniform in school had been something similar to his, jeans, band t-shirt, and chucks. Seeing you with your hair pinned back, a white coat, and scrubs underneath was…different. A pair of glasses were balanced on the top of your head and he itched to see what you looked like with them on. While the surface of you had changed, the shocked expression on your face sent a pang through his chest – you’d always been easy to read. At least to him. Clearly, not anymore.
“What the fuck?” You said, breaking the spell he’d been under. With a wince he tried to straighten up on the bed but hissed when pain shot through his arm.
He glanced back up at you and he watched a wall fall into place. Your face smoothed, your eyes blank, and you shook your head. “I – uh, I’m so sorry Mr. Munson. That was entirely inappropriate. I was…surprised.”
Mr. Munson? That was Wayne – or shit, his dad – he’d never been called Mr. Munson in his life. Not unless you counted teachers screaming after him.
“Please don’t ever call me that again, I think that hurt more than the arm,” Eddie said, fighting everything within him not to beam when your brow twitched. A little bit of amusement bled into your eyes before they darted down to his chart.
“Do you want me to see if another doctor can treat you?”
“What?” Eddie sputtered. He knew you hadn’t stayed friends but did you hate him that much? “No,” he said, stubbornly.
“Eddie, we dated for six years.”
And goddamn if those hadn’t been the best six years of his life.
“So? Doesn’t the code of ethics or whatever only extend to immediate family members?” He frowned. “If you’re here, I know you’re the best one of the bunch. So, I want you.”
Eddie ignored how the words sounded, the small hollow spot in his chest expanding in your sudden presence.
He watched you swallow visibly, your fingers clenching. “I see it says here you’re in for a fracture? We won’t know the extent of the damage or injury until we’ve gotten x-rays.” At his blank look you sighed. “If it needs surgery, I won’t be the one to do it anyway. You’ll be referred to a specialist I assume, considering the importance of the use of a musician’s arm.”
Wait, surgery? Holy shit, he hadn’t even thought of that.
“Hey, hey, we don’t know how bad it is. It could be a small fracture, a clean break, nothing indicates surgery yet,” you said, hand reaching for him like you were going to touch his good arm but remembered and avoided it at the last minute.
“That’s okay,” he said, eyes on yours. He didn’t know what he was saying at this point. You could suggest that he take of his clothes and run naked in front of the paparazzi outside and he’d do it.
In fact, it took every ounce of energy he had not to reach out and grab your hand. He’d thought about seeing you so many times over the years, he never thought it’d be in an emergency room. Eddie had been back to Hawkins – of course he had – but you’d never been around. Dustin and Eleven told him you were at school most of the time. Eddie wondered if your smile was the same. Suddenly, a thought bubbled up to the surface, shit – he’d do anything to hear your laugh again.
Instead, you were staring at him like he was something you’d found in the forest. Something interesting to look at but not worthy of too much attention.
“Alright, uh – I’ll put in an order for the necessary scans and I’ll be by to go over the results. If you need any pain management or anything, please let Nurse Johnson know.”
This was wild. You were in his room talking about scans and x-rays when you’d saved the world together. He’d lost his virginity to you. You’d been this entire world and…he was supposed to be able to concentrate on anything else?
“Yeah, alright, thanks,” Eddie breathed, eyes still taking you in. He was working up the courage to ask you to stay, it felt like if you left his eyesight, he’d never see you again. A loud bang startled you both, popping the bubble, and he watched Gareth storm into the room.
“Dude, you’re fucking insane! Claire and Warren are going to hang you by the ba-” his voice got struck in his throat, choking, as he did a double take. “Hopper?”
The tightness in your face smoothed out and your eyes lit up when they turned to Gareth. “Oh my God you haven’t changed a bit!” You accepted his hug. Why the fuck did Gareth get a hug and a smile and he got tense silence?
Because he’d broken your heart. And you’d broken his. His mind reminded him painfully.
“We need to catch up, dude, I can’t believe you’re here. It’s like, kismet!” Gareth said, giving you another hug. You beamed up at him and Eddie bit down on his cheek so hard, he tasted blood. What the fuck? Since when did he ever get jealous of Gareth? “Is this where you ended up doing your residency?”
Wait, what? Gareth knew you’d gone into medicine? Your eyes darted to Eddie’s before skirting away. “Uh, no I did most of my residency in New York. I’m a traveling doctor for now, as a senior resident, I’m only in Indianapolis for a month before I’m going back to Hawkins’ Hospital for a bit. I still haven’t made a decision what offer to take.”
“That’s so cool, I’m happy for you,” Gareth said, giving you another hug. You smiled at him – again! – and tapped your clipboard.
“I’m going to get these orders processed and someone will be by soon to come get you, okay?”
Eddie nodded dumbly, watching you as you all but ran from the room. Gareth turned his head towards Eddie, shit-eating smile widening, and crossed his arms.
Claire walked in, midway through hanging up her phone, and sighed when she saw Gareth. “I don’t even want to know how you got passed security.” She turned to Eddie. “Everything is under control. John is doing damage control at the venue and we’ve got additional security set up to keep the reporters under control. Warren’s outside in the waiting room waiting to slap you for doing something so stupid. I’ve apologized to most of the staff for the disturbance and ordered a bunch of food so they don’t hold it against us.”
“Thanks, C,” Eddie mumbled.
Shooting him a weird look, she turned to Gareth who sighed. “What the hell is wrong with him?”
“Did you, uh, see his doctor?”
Claire nodded. “I introduced myself to her on her way out.”
Eddie glowered. “That’s my ex.”
“So? We run into your exes all the time,” Claire joked, not entirely a lie.
“That’s Hopper,” Gareth said quietly, knowing you were different.
Claire’s eyebrows disappeared into her bangs. “That’s Hopper? The Hopper? Shit, Munson, you let that go?” Claire shook her head, eyes darting to the door like she could see you through it. “Even I was checking her out. Did you see her hips?”
“You check anything out with a pulse,” Eddie snapped, pathetically glancing at the door for a glimpse of you.
She pointed one long nail at him. “Hypocrite.”
“Alright, so I’ve got your scans back Eddie…” you walked into the room and your voice immediately trailed off at the sight of three sets of eyes on you. “Oh, I’m sorry Mr. Munson,” you stammered, “I didn’t know you were with visitors.”
Something in Eddie’s chest wanted to crack in two at the sound of your voice calling him Mr. Munson again. Like you hadn’t spent a whole life together. Like at one point you hadn’t been the woman he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with.
“Did she just call you Mr. Munson?” Warren asked, eyebrows quirking in a way that Eddie knew meant he wanted to laugh.
Your face immediately looked flustered and uncomfortable. Eddie jumped to defend you, not wanting to alienate you. “Ignore him, he’s a jackass. He’s the eldest of seven, it’s in his DNA to take the piss out of people.”
Warren chuckled, nodding and extending a hand out to you. “I’m Warren Hudson. Mr. Munson’s head of security.”
“Ah,” you nodded, clutching the folder in your hands tightly to your body. Eddie’s stomach flipped uncomfortably and he turned to glare at Warren when he realized Warren was checking you out.
Discretely, Eddie reached out to pinch his inner forearm and Warren jumped. “Alright, alright, message received.”
Claire, never one to not seize an opportunity to introduce herself, walked straight up to you. “Hi, I’m Claire – Corroded Coffin’s manager. I’ve heard a lot about you, it’s nice to finally meet the Hopper.”
Jesus Christ. Did no one on his team have any sense of decorum? Warren had just spent the last hour in his room refusing to leave because he wanted to meet the girl that ‘had Munson on his knees.’ Claire just flat out told him she wasn’t leaving until they’d finally met.
“For fuck’s sake Claire,” Eddie grumbled.
You, however, seemed to realize his team was fucking with him and smiled widely. “All good things, I hope? I’m Dr. Hopper. Nice to meet you both.”
“Of course! You can’t know Eddie for as long as I do without knowing about you!”
“Really?” Your eyes slid to his and he wanted to sink into the floor.
Before Eddie could get a word in, Claire lit up like a Christmas tree and Eddie groaned. Warren laughed, like the asshole he was, and shook his head. “You’re going to have enough with Claire on your case. I’ll be in the waiting room down the hall if you need me,” Warren said, leaning in to – mercifully – lower his voice. “I see why you’re so hung up on her now.”
“Get out,” Eddie hissed, narrowing his eyes at him.
Warren just laughed, head thrown back and fist bumping you on the way out.
After what felt like an eternity, Claire finished her verbal assault and turned back to him. “I like her Munson, why’d you keep her away for so long?”
You choked, coughing not covering up your amused laughter.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I’m being unprofessional on all accounts tonight,” you said, shaking your head and holding up an x-ray to the light. “The break is clean - it doesn’t even need to be set. I believe the EMTs in the ambulance said you’d managed to knock back into place? How you managed that I don’t even know…”
Claire turned to glare at him. “Because he thought crowd surfing despite the hundreds of times that I have told all of them not to do it would be good. I hope this teaches you a goddamn lesson Munson.”
“Probably not,” you muttered, gathering up the necessary supplies towards Eddie’s bed.
At Claire’s snort and Eddie’s indignant huff, he watched your head snap up. “Oh my God, I said that out loud.”
“Please, tell me how you really feel,” Eddie said, not able to help from goading you.
Your eye widened and hands came up in defense. “I swear, it was like a knee jerk reflex. Like that time you thought diving off your roof was a good idea – I’m pretty sure the only reason you and Jeff didn’t break your ankles was because-”
“- we fell on the garbage Paula had left out the night before,” Eddie finished, remembering. He grinned at the memory. The band had finally had a bigger than normal crowd and they’d gotten stupidly drunk. You’d been the designated driver for that weekend and had complained endlessly how you’d never do it again if they didn’t stop doing stupid shit. Somehow that had ended up with a discussion about the dumbest things they could all do – which is how they’d ended up on the roof.
You’d yelled at them for hours after, freaking out the entire night. To be fair, you’d been right – you usually were. But after you’d tired yourself out – and he’d spent hours apologizing – he’d managed to get you to admit it had been pretty cool.
It was stupid, but the way you’d grinned that morning, admitting that their impromptu concert on the roof of his trailer was amazing – was seared into his memory. Especially considering you’d kept him in bed the entire weekend.
Eddie resurfaced from his memory of you in his old room, bra strap falling from your shoulder and your head thrown back in laughter, as your gloved hand came to undo his sling.
“Sorry, what?”
Claire rolled her eyes so hard he shot her a look. You, on the other hand, just smiled patiently. God, he’d forgotten how easy it was with you.
“I’m going to feel a little just to make sure everything is okay, then I’ll start wrapping. Once we get through that, considering the nature of your job, I’ll have the nurse explain your physical therapy schedule for post-removal. This is your non-dominant hand, right? That’s good.”
“Yeah,” he said, shifting and wincing when the pain shot up his arm. You leaned in close, trying not to move his arm much and your fingers examined the swelling. Claire, hovering behind your shoulder, shot him a look he didn’t understand before pointing to the door.
“I’ll go…talk to the nurse from earlier about the therapy schedule,” she said, completely unconvincingly. Without preamble, she disappeared out the door.
You hadn’t moved, your eyes clinical and mouth set in concentration. “She’s subtle.”
Eddie wanted the ground to swallow him. “I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t be,” you said, sitting back onto a small stool and finally smiling. “I like your manager, I’m glad you have someone to keep you grounded.”
The pain was starting to ricochet up and he felt himself start to sweat. He knew it wasn’t incredibly cool but he had a notoriously low pain threshold. He was pretty sure that’s the only reason why they’d given him some pain meds. Even Claire had mentioned how she’d torn her ACL in college and hadn’t been that big of a whiner.
“Hey,” you said, touching his good hand. “Tell me about the concert tonight. Are you guys on tour? What’s your set list?”
Eddie knew what you were doing, eyes darting towards the tools on the platter to your right. Still, he took the bone you’d thrown him. “Do you…listen to any of our music?”
You shot him a deadpan look and he smiled. “Of course, I do Eddie, you’ve always been an amazing musician.” He didn’t know why but the resolution in your voice and the confirmation that you hadn’t avoided anything to do with him like the plague after he’d left – it…made him happy.
So, he told you about the tour they were on – the stops they had next and how they were going over to the UK, Spain, and a few other countries before ending it in New York City.
“I heard,” you said, shaking your head in awe, “Madison Square Garden, Munson.”
“I know,” he said. It’d be their first time – and the sales were so close to being sold out it felt like the entire band were holding their breaths for the news. Claire kept assuring them they’d be sold out by the end of the week. “If only the people of Hawkins could see me now, huh?”
Your eyes came up to his and he was surprised by the emotion in them. “They never saw you, Eddie. They didn’t deserve to anyway. I knew you’d make it here eventually and I honestly can’t say I know anyone more deserving.”
To Eddie’s horror, he felt undeniable pressure behind his eyes. Shit. Why had that hit him so hard? You know why, his mind supplied. Your support had been present, unwavering, and constant for so long that when you’d broken up, its absence had left a hole in his chest that nothing could fix.
“Thanks,” he said, voice thick.
“I know this may not mean much but,” you grabbed his other hand and squeezed tightly. “I am so proud of you, Eddie.”
If only you knew.
“It means a lot, it always does with you,” he admitted, eyes anywhere but on you.
“Yeah?” Your eyes were on packing up your supplies. His gaze fluttered over to his arm, realizing you were done. Damn. You were good. Wait, wait, were you leaving?
Say something, his mind shouted. “Will you sit with me for a bit? Just until I get used to the feeling?” He lifted his now heavy arm.
Your brow raised and you glanced down at a small black thing on your coat. “I don’t know…”
“Come on, we can play a game.”
“A game?”
Eddie’s mind scrambled for something, anything. “Yeah, twenty questions – to help break the ice.”
You sat down in the chair closest to his bed and smiled. “Ten questions, I do have a job Eddie, and we don’t have ice to break.”
“Deal. I go first!”
Nose wrinkling endearingly, you crossed your arms. “Why do you get to go first?”
“Because it was my idea!”
“Fine,” you sighed, rolling your eyes. The lightness in your expression letting him know you were teasing.
Not wanting to ask something he already knew the answer to – Eddie decided to jump for the second time that night. “So, who was the poor sucker that came after me?” He asked.
Your eyes darted up to his, surprised, and a small, familiar, ember of mischief in them. His heart flipped, the poor bastard. “Of all the questions you could’ve asked, that’s what you’re using to break the ice?”
“So there is ice to break?” He said, grinning.
Not one to back down, you shook your head at him with a determined expression so familiar it sent a pang through his chest. Eddie stomped on the urge to reach out and kiss you senseless.
Your teasing expression morphed into something he couldn’t name. Something that looked a little like regret. “The first serious one? His name was Brad.”
“Brad?” Eddie forced a smile, not prepared for the surge of jealousy that shot through him. “He sounds like a tool.”
Smacking his leg, Eddie pretended like your touch didn’t brand him. “He wasn’t. Brad was…Brad is a good guy. I met him my first day of med school.”
“A doctor? Fancy.” Definitely a tool.
You grinned, like you could tell what he was thinking, and picked at the skin around your nails. “Yeah, he went into pediatric oncology.”
Well shit, he was saving sick kids. “He sounds like a ray of sunshine.”
Laughing, you shook your head at him, eyes fond. “He was, he wants to change the world. Helping kids and underprivileged people. It’s been his dream since he was a little kid.”
“Sounds boring,” he joked, squeezing your hand to assure you he was kidding. “Where is this amazing Brad? Was he an idiot like me and let you go?”
“No,” you said, almost ruefully. He watched your mouth twist to the side before sighing. “We were engaged. For a few years.”
Eddie’s heart dropped to his feet. You were engaged? His eyes darted to your hand and he realized your ring finger was bare.
“I’m not married,” you snorted when he, likely, turned bright red at his lack of subtlety. Not married doesn’t mean single, his brain supplied helpfully. Not that that mattered. Doesn’t it? Jesus, didn’t his mind ever shut the hell up? No.
“Is it too rude to ask what happened?”
You shrugged, fingers going to your ring finger. “I was tired of trying to keep up with all his ambition. We had different dreams and I didn’t want to hold him back.” A flash of determination darted across your face. “He said he was tired of always feeling second best. I believe his words were, I can’t compete with a ghost.”
“Second best?” Eddie frowned.
Wide, pointed, eyes shot to his and he realized. Another pang hit his chest and Eddie was sure that if he hadn’t been lying down, he would’ve dropped to the floor.
“What about you?” You asked, like you hadn’t just knocked the air out of him with your admission. You cleared your throat and wrung your hands together. You were uncomfortable, he noted, realizing he still knew pieces of the new you.
“What about me?” He parroted, brain still coming back online.
Eddie caught your eye roll and fought his smile. Shit, how could it have been so many years and after a few minutes it felt like no time had passed? What fucking magic did you possess?
“Hey,” you said, nudging your foot with his, “I told you about me.”
Embarrassment flashed through him. “As sad as it sounds, uh, there hasn’t really been anyone after you,” he said, eyes darting away from your face.
Surprising him, he heard you snort. “Yeah, okay, the lead singer and guitarist of Corroded Coffin never had a girlfriend after his high school sweetheart.”
“Well, no, I’ve had shorter relationships and uh…well, um,” he stammered, remembering flashes of drunken stumbling into hotel rooms across the country.
“Bed warmers?” You suggested with a sparkle in your eye.
This time, he rolled his eyes and nodded. “Yeah,” he huffed, “but no one really serious. Not really.”
“Why not?”
Because he couldn’t give his heart over to someone when the memory of you felt like something he was continuously chasing. Because it wasn’t fair to anyone else. Because no one ever measured up to you. Because…that’s just the way he worked.
Your eyes caught his and the air became charged around you both. Eddie tried to think of an answer to your question but only one crossed his mind.
“Why didn’t you come with me?” He blurted.
“What?” You blinked, surprised. Eddie swallowed around the lump in his throat.
“The week before we’d decided to leave…and I told you – I asked you if you’d come with me. You looked at me in a way I’ll never forget, ever.”
The silence in the room felt like it was suffocating. The clock on the wall was loud and echoed in his head, bouncing around as he waited for you to say something. Anything.
“In my head it’d always kinda felt like you left me behind,” you said with a small, devastatingly sad smile. “It felt like you needed to grow and I wasn’t ready yet.”
Left you behind? “I asked you to come with me – I didn’t…I never wanted you to feel like I was leaving you behind,” he said, realizing.
“I know. It still stung though,” you admitted with a small shrug. He could tell you were trying to find the right words, taking your time to put them together before speaking.
“You didn’t ask me to stay,” he said, remembering how it felt. Standing in front of his half-destroyed trailer and your hiccupping tears echoing in the air. He’d been waiting for you to ask – because he would’ve stayed. He would’ve done anything for you.
You blinked, eyes coming up to his again. “How could I have? In Hawkins? After everything that town had done to you? I knew you’d stay if I asked and you were always too good for that town.”
That was fair. “Why’d you stay?”
“You know why,” you said without hesitation. Your eyes went to the closed door and sighed. “The same reason why I didn’t go when you asked. Eleven had gotten her powers back – we didn’t know if Max was going to live. My sister needed me. My dad was alive – Eddie, it was a lot. We’d been through a lot. I never blamed you for leaving, it was the right choice. Clearly.”
He had figured that was why but he’d always still wanted to ask one day. “We had something good though, right?”
“Eddie,” your face softened into a version of you that he recognized. “What we had, that shit was once in a lifetime. It didn’t matter that we were kids for half of it. Six years is a long time. We…we were good together.”
“Yeah?”
You smiled at him, reaching into his chest and pulling his heart right out of it. “Yeah. Somehow, that seemed to hurt more.” It was like Eddie had poked at a wound he thought had healed and was surprised to find it bleeding.
Eddie let himself fall down the rabbit hole for a second and he really thought about the years that had passed. He’d had something special and he threw it away, for what? To run away? Again? He wanted to chase his dreams, yeah. But a big part of it was running from Hawkins.
“I can hear you thinking from here,” you teased, bringing his spiral to a pause. “Don’t…don’t overthink it. I spent the first two years after you left overthinking ever tiny piece of what we’d said. Should I have gone with you? Would we be married by now if I had? Kids? Would we have even made it? Would I have become a doctor? The what if, that’ll kill you. Or, it almost killed me.”
You’d opened up a drawer in his mind and dusted off the cobwebs off the questions he’d tortured himself with for almost half a decade. Gareth and Jeff had suffered through a long, long time of finding him drunk in a hotel room wondering what it would’ve been like if you’d come. The fact that you’d also thought about it, hurt twice as deep. It also pulled a painful truth from underneath multiple layers of delusion. He’d really never fallen out of love with you. Eddie had always been a stubborn idiot. It seemed his heart, back in your palms, had never really had any intention on giving you up.
He blinked, dumbstruck, and was only pulled out of his tornado of misery when he felt your warm hand on his hand. “Hey, you okay?”
“Yeah,” he croaked, unbelievable even to himself.
You smiled softly, like you knew the truth. “We were the right people but wrong time. Timing is everything.” And you were right. You’d had the timing before demons and other dimensions stole it from him.
Eddie nodded like that simple fact didn’t crack his heart further.
Clearly trying to change the subject, you cleared your throat. “I told myself if I ever saw you again, I’d never be stupid enough to ask - but…”
Grasping at the second bone you threw that night, he nodded. “You can ask me anything,” Eddie said, his tone a breath too honest even to his own ears.
The smile that bloomed on your face made his stomach flip. Mouth twisting, eyes mischievous, you ducked your head. “Is the song about me?”
Wanting to keep the smile on your face, Eddie pretended like he didn’t know what you were talking about. “What song?”
The look in your eyes told him you knew what he was doing. “You’re going to make me sing it?”
“If you want an answer,” he said, shrugging innocently.
You narrowed your eyes at him and glanced around before nodding. “You never know how good you have it, until you're staring at a picture of the only girl that matters. I know what we're supposed to do. It's hard for me to let go of you, so I'm just trying to hold on.”
Eddie’s soul felt like it’d left his body and was hovering above you both. It’d been years since he last heard you sing along to his music and Jesus fuckin’ Christ had his memory not done you justice. “I still think you could’ve joined us and been lead singer.”
You laughed, smiling a little self-consciously. “What? And steal the spotlight from you?”
“Oh, sweetheart, that light always belonged to you.”
Eyes flashing, you ducked your head but Eddie still caught sight of your pleased smile. “You didn’t answer the question.”
“You really need to ask?” You had to know, especially for one of their more popular songs, everyone knew. It was still one of the questions he got most in interviews – who the song was about. Not that he ever said it, even to his friends. But to the people who’d known, they didn’t have to ask.
“Validation is nice,” you teased.
Eddie took a moment to really take you in. Hands intertwined on your lap, ID badge around your neck, and despite looking utterly exhausted, you were still the most beautiful person he’d ever had the sheer dumb luck of knowing.
“Yeah, Hopper,” he heard himself say, your eyes darting up to meet his, “none of my songs could be about anyone else.”
Well shit -- he’d never admitted anything that vulnerable in years.
“Even now?” You joked, trying to alleviate the sudden tension around you both. But Eddie hadn’t ever lied to you and he wasn’t going to start now.
“Yeah, even now.”
At that, your head whirled towards him and he saw something flicker behind your ten-foot castle walls. Something familiar.
The device on your hip beeped loudly and you jumped to your feet. “Sorry,” you scrambled for the tiny thing. “It’s my beeper, I’m being paged for a new patient. I’ll try to see how your paperwork is going and if we can speed things along. I…um, I – this was nice.”
Nice? He could work with nice! You smiled at him, hesitating with your hand on the door knob.
But, like the idiot he still was, Eddie nodded dumbly and said nothing while he watched you walk out his door.
“Nice? That was nice? What the hell?” You said out loud to yourself, taking another inhale of the cigarette between your fingers. Like the wimp you were, you’d taken your break on the last floor, crawling out to the shitty makeshift terrace the west wing had. The night shift rarely came out here, but you loved the view – downtown Indianapolis was beautiful. High-rise buildings with their scattered lights and the sharp wind from the corner usually helped you decompress. Clearly, tonight, you needed nicotine reinforcements.
If your roommate could see you now, she’d smack you. In your very well mounted defense, you hadn’t expected to see Eddie Munson of all people in your emergency room tonight. You hated that your first instinct, after your shock, had been to check your reflection in a mirror.
It’d been more years than you could count – being around Eddie should not affect you as much as it clearly still did. He was in your past, you reminded yourself, taking another drag. Max and Robin had always had an ongoing agenda to remind you that Eddie was always an option now that you’d both grown into yourselves.
At the reminder of Max, you needed to remind yourself to strangle her. Just this morning she’d said she had no idea where they were playing next – clearly, that had been a lie.
You felt off balance and you hated it. The past few years you’d spent making sure you had all your ducks in a row. You had studied hard, travelled around the country, and learned from the best of the best. Despite feeling intimidated by Brad’s confidence in his career, almost two years later you knew what he’d meant now. You were meant to be a doctor – and you were a damn good one. While you didn’t want to stay in the ER, you knew you had a reputation for being unshakeable.
And your ex-boyfriend walks in and it throws you for a loop? What the fuck. You needed this shift to be over, for him to leave, and a bath with some wine as soon as possible. Checking your watch, you groaned when you realized you had more than half of it to go.
Replaying your last interaction on a loop, you groaned again. Why had you let him convince you to stay in his room?
You knew the answer.
His dumb big, wide, brown eyes had always been your weak spot. And look at where that had gotten you – rehashing things that didn’t need remembering. Not with him. Or maybe? You took another long drag and pinched the bridge of your nose. Why was this so complicated? And why the hell did it feel like you had a swarm of pterodactyls in your stomach every time he looked at you…with those stupid eyes. Like you meant something to him.
“Aren’t doctors always telling people not to smoke?” A voice asked, startling the shit out of you.
Almost dropping your mostly finished cigarette, you whirled around and gaped when you saw Eddie standing there. “How the fuck did you get here?”
He grinned, the sight immediately warming you. “I asked a nurse for you; she said you always took your breaks out here.”
“You need an ID to get into the room that leads here,” you said, dumbly.
“Turns out, she’s a Corroded Coffins fan,” he said, grinning shamelessly. “After a photo and an autograph, she let me through.”
Scowling at the unprofessionalism, you guessed. “Emma?”
He nodded and waved a hand. “It happens all the time, don’t worry. Besides, you never came back.”
“I – I had a gunshot wound to the leg and it took a while to change,” you said, motioning to your new black scrubs.
Eddie took a few more hesitant steps towards you. “I didn’t know you smoked, last I remembered you hated that about me,” he said, nodding towards the cigarette in your hand.
“It’s a horrible habit,” you admitted immediately, deciding to be honest, “I only do it when I’m stressed.”
The city around you buzzed with life. “ER doctor feels like the wrong profession then…”
You hated the fact that you laughed. Not even able to stop it, you brought a hand up to your mouth, surprised. Not knowing what to say, you offer him one from the carton in your hand.
To your utter surprise, he shook his head. “Haven’t smoked in years,” he said and you noted that he made sure to stay upwind of the cigarette. “The love of my life once told me she hated it and well, I stopped.”
You quirked your brow, deeply ignoring how your heart skipped. “Stop moving that arm around so much, once the meds wear off it’ll hurt,” you said, changing the subject because what the hell did you say to that? Taking another drag, you exhaled the smoke.
He smiled at you like he knew what you were doing. Shit, he probably did. “I can’t help it, you know that.”
“I didn’t ask before but…doctor huh? Last I heard you wanted to be a teacher,” Eddie said, scuffing his shoe against the gravel.
You couldn’t help the way your brows raised. How had he known you’d considered being a teacher? “Keeping tabs on me?” He smiled and when he didn’t answer you shrugged. “After what happened, seeing you…”
The memory of Eddie on the floor, scratches and gouges all over his body while he laid unnaturally still in your lap haunted you. Sometimes, after bad shifts, you’d still have the same nightmare where you weren’t able to get him out in time. You could hear the sound of him choking on his own blood, your own voice screaming at him to stay awake. Steve’s frantic hands as he hauled Eddie through the gate.
“Almost bleed out?” He prompted, tone light.
“Yeah,” you cleared your throat and stubbed the cigarette out. “I never wanted to feel that helpless ever again.”
At your confession, he quieted. The silence wasn’t uncomfortable, not like you’d expected. It wasn’t charged like earlier…it was nice. “Yeah,” he said, “I knew you were a doctor. Dustin told me, sent me a Polaroid of your graduation.”
“That little shit.”
Eddie laughed. “I asked for it, don’t blame him.”
“Why?” You asked, shocked. Everyone had assured you that he’d reach out eventually – he had to. But he never did. In all fairness, neither had you.
His eyes came to yours, stare serious and the air shifting from light to something heavier. “You know why.”
Electricity crackled between you. Eyes drawn to his you had to curl your hand around the railing to avoid the urge you had to reach for him. “I started smoking in college. It helped take the edge of every once in a while,” you shrugged. “The scent reminded me of you. Helped me, I don’t know, calm down? It’s soothing, I guess. I had a tangible part of you that I could keep with me.”
Surprised at your own candor, you bit your cheek. You had never admitted that to anyone. Everyone assumed you’d picked it up after having snuck one off your dad or Joyce. You risked a glance up at him and your heart jumped to your throat. If the electricity was on high before, the look in his eyes made it palpable.
Like magnets, you both took a few steps towards each other. His hand reached for yours and your heart slammed against your rib cage, revving like an engine. “Hopper…I-”
The door behind him slammed open, surprising you again. Gareth stumbled in and you bit a smile back at the death glare Eddie shot him. “I think I just promised one of the nurses my first born to get here.”
You laughed, feeling Eddie’s eyes on you.
“Claire sent me to find you, she’s on a rampage. You can’t just run off dude,” Gareth said good naturedly.
Eddie sighed. “Sorry.”
“S’all good, she’s getting the paperwork for you discharge. She found a nurse on the second floor and I’m pretty sure he’s already asked her on a date.”
You snorted and Gareth grinned at you. “So, Doc, is he cleared to go? We’ve got a plane to catch in the morning. Helene said she’d cover for you for the rest of the tour if we needed to. Claire and Warren think you can sit and sing if you’re feeling up to it.”
Reality crashed into you. Of course. They were on tour. You and Eddie were in the past - a fond memory that stung a little still but was fond nonetheless.
“Uh yeah, he should be fine. Make sure he keeps the sling on for at least two weeks. No guitar playing but singing is fine. The nurse should explain in detail to Claire.”
“Great!” Gareth clapped his hands, glancing between you both. Your fingers itched to grab another cigarette as your stress climbed. “Helene’s on her way to Chicago.” Gareth added when no one spoke.
Eddie grunted and it spurred you into action. You reached out and rested your hand on Eddie’s arm. “It was nice to see you both,” you said, smiling at Gareth. Gathering up all the courage you had available, you reached up and kissed Eddie’s cheek. His breath hitched and you scrambled back towards safety. “Be careful, okay? Take care of the arm.”
Eddie’s stare felt like physical touch but you tugged Gareth into a hug and ignored him. The beeper in your scrubs screeched and you almost sighed in relief. “That’s my cue,” you said, waving the flashing screen in the air, “have a safe flight.”
Whirling around, you’d made it three steps before Eddie’s voice stopped you. “Hopper!”
“Yeah?”
He blinked at you, as if surprised you’d stopped. “When’s your shift end?”
You smiled at your first love and decided to indulge yourself for the moment. Eyes trailing down him, taking in his features and how little he’d changed. His hair was still wild and curly, his hands still waved in the air as he spoke, and he still chewed on his bottom lip when he was nervous. You still knew him well enough to know what he wasn’t saying. “You were my first patient of the night. I’m on until morning, probably a bit past that since we’re short-staffed.” The beeper screeched again and you winced. If it was an attending, they were going to be on your ass for the rest of the night. “I gotta go, I’m sorry.” Sorry that’s all you had, sorry this didn’t magically fix everything, sorry for not going with you. Sorry for…still loving you? “Bye.”
Before the door closed behind you, you heard Gareth’s unmistakable laughter and voice boom. “When does your shift end? That’s the best you got? Dude.”
A muffled groan made you smile and you shook your head. This night was going to be a wild, crazy, memory. That’s all. You had patients to see.
You were dead on your feet, squinting at the offending sun as you walked towards your car in the parking lot. “See you Monday, Hopper!” A coworker called out. You waved a hand towards them. The next break in your schedule had managed to line up with the weekend. Despite the miracle, you were already planning on spending most of it sleeping and catching up on your notes. Stifling a yawn, you dug through your bag to try and find your keys.
Where the fuck were they? You groaned, blindly feeling around for the key ring. As you rounded the corner you froze. What the hell? Eddie was sitting on the hood of your car. His hair was tucked into a beanie, sunglasses perched on the bridge of his nose, and his green cast in a sling.
Your feet carried you towards his smiling figure. “Hey? I thought – you…a plane?” Exhaustion scrambled your brain but Eddie seemed to understand what you meant - he always had.
“I can take a later one,” he said, squatting to pick up a coffee cup off the ground. “I don’t know if your order has changed but I got you this from the shop down the street.”
“Oh my god, I love you,” you said. Exhaustion and desperation drove you to practically dive for the cup. Taking a long gulp, you curled your fingers against the warmth.
Eddie froze as you continued to gulp it down. “Never thought I’d hear those words again.”
What? You thought, realizing a beat too late. Flustered, you didn’t know what to say to his teasing.
“I’m going to say something and if I’m reading too much into this or way out of line – feel free to slap me.”
“What?”
“Just…I need to say it. I have to – I can’t keep going on through life wondering what if.”
“Don’t overthink it…The what if, that’ll kill you. Or, it almost killed me.”
You swallowed around the sudden lump in your throat and nodded.
“I want to give this a shot,” Eddie said, inhaling deeply, “I still love you, sweetheart. I think I always have. I know that it’s different and it’s been far longer than it should have been but I want to try. Seeing you again tonight, I…I don’t think there will ever be anyone else but you for me.”
Emotions overwhelmed you, eyes tearing up. “Eddie,” you breathed, hands coming up to his as if by instinct.
His eyes didn’t stray from you and he continued. “I let this go because I thought - I thought it was what was best at the time. I’m not making the same mistake twice.” Eddie leaned forward, eyes darting between yours and you knew he was giving you the chance to back away – to say no.
Did you want to say no? Wasn’t this chasing the past? What if you both ended up hurting each other all over again? It was clear you’d both never moved on from your break up.
And yet…the soft look in his eyes reminded you of leaning against his locker, his body caging you in. His hair would hide the halls, the entire world, and you’d be pinned in place by his stare. Eddie would kiss his way up from your neck and one of your friends would always manage to find you two. They’d give you shit for it but, Eddie would flip them off before pressing his lips back down to yours. Their jeering fading into the background while his hands trailed down your body.
Just because it’d been years ago didn’t make it any less important. Any less crucial. And most importantly, the years hadn’t wiped the longing.
Without overthinking it, for once in your life, you surged up and pressed your lips to his. Eddie’s right hand trailed around your hip and pulled you into him. Mindful of his sling, you cradled his face and kept him close.
His teeth nipped at your bottom lip, making familiar heat pool in your stomach, and you were almost embarrassed by the harsh exhale you let out. You felt his smile against your lips and not one to be left behind, you let your lips find that spot you knew like the back of your hand. His scruff tickled your skin as you worried at the skin on the underside of his jaw and you grinned when he let out a quiet moan.
Your bodies slotted into each other like two puzzle pieces and they rekindled the flame that had somehow seemed to never have gone out. After a while, you needed to calm your breathing before you both managed to get arrested for public indecency. Taking a huge step back, you brought your hand up to your lips – afraid this had been a fever dream.
“Where are you going?” Eddie whined, chasing after you.
Grinning, you held his good hand between yours and brought it up to your lips. Brushing a kiss against his knuckles, you watched his eyes darken and smiled. His hair looked wilder than normal, his lips swollen and red. He looked happy. You were sure you looked a similar.
“How do you know I’m not dating anyone? I could be,” you teased, arms trailing down to rest comfortably on his waist.
“First, if you’re going to kiss me like that – if you were dating someone, I’d be appalled,” he joked, shooting you a knowing look. “Dustin told me. I called him an hour ago to ask for his advice. He likes to remind me periodically that you won’t be single for long. He really didn’t like the last guy uh-”
You reared back. “Jared? He was nice!”
“If it makes you feel any better my last quasi-relationship was like a year ago and Dustin wouldn’t even look at her when she tried speaking to him,” Eddie said. You bit back your laughter because that was definitely something you could see Dustin doing.
“The little asshole.”
“Right?”
“We can’t tell him about this. Not yet,” you said quickly. God, especially not Dustin – he’d be unbearable. He spent almost all of your trips home screaming Eddie’s praises.
Eddie’s entire face lit up. “So there is a this to tell?”
How could you have ever thought you could’ve fooled yourself into thinking this night wouldn’t have mattered? That Eddie was someone you could move on from? “I mean, I let you kiss me, didn’t I?” You teased.
That’s true, you would’ve decked me if you wanted me off,” he said, nose coming down to your neck, teeth nipping at the skin there.
“I do have mean right hook,” you said, breathless.
“Oh, I remember,” he laughed and you knew he was picturing you decking Tommy at a party senior year for harassing Steve and Nancy.
After beat, your insecurities started to creep into the bubble. “What are we doing? I still…I still love you. I don’t think I ever really stopped but we’re different people now. We don’t really know this version of us anymore. Not the way we used to.”
Eddie’s hand came up to cradle your face softly. “Trust me, I haven’t changed much,” he said and you snorted. “It doesn’t matter. We can love each other and take it slow. We can learn the new stuff and enjoy the things that stayed the same. I’ll do whatever you want because, honestly, I don’t know what we’re doing either. But I do know that I’m not letting you go. Not a second time. I know my schedule is hectic – my career is chaotic - and all over the place for months on end but…”
You smiled, tightening your arms around him and finally feeling like the earth had snapped back onto its axis. “But we can try?” Because wasn’t it worth it? For him? Without question.
Eddie’s eyes closed and he leaned his forehead against yours. “We can definitely try.”
As the sun warmed you both, you glanced up at Eddie’s beaming smile and you nodded. It wouldn’t be easy, you’d both stumble and have to adjust to the new things, your careers, and living in different cities but…the timing was right. Again. Didn’t people always say lightning never struck twice? And yet, timing was everything.
A/N2: There's also no way in hell a metal band would be singing something as slow as When You're Gone but yolo, I'm the captain now.
