J.K Rowling found her stride at the Harvard class of 2023 commencement speech by cracking a few jokes and emphasizing the importance of a memorable speech. Rowling cited from her own experience being a young student attending a commencement with a very forgettable speaker in Baroness Mary Warnicke. Rowling made sure this would not be the case for her as she made a joke about being a “gay wizard” in order to catch the audience’s attention and make a memorable moment. A chorus of deep laughter as different voices come together proves her point. Despite the monotonous tone of her voice, Rowling shined as a speaker, lifting the mood with her many jokes and ensuring the sea of black cap and gowns and red Harvard hats were comfortable. Rowling made it a point to level with her audience and break the barrier of prestigious speaker to relatable college student who just graduated a decade earlier. Rowling continued this grounding trend by presenting the two main points she wanted to embed in the future scholars. First, the benefits of failure and second, the importance of imagination and empathy. Rowling first agreed that there being benefits to failure may not seem right at first but with a backstory like hers there is truth to it. To start on her point about failure, Rowling goes back to her childhood coming from a poor household. Her parents, like most, wanted her to become something that could “Pay the bills…” However, Rowling knew that was not where her heart lay, so without the knowledge of her parents she changed her major. This major change would come with this as Rowling states “ some of the lowest points” in her young adult life. While Rowling is speaking, she has all the demographics in the audience hooked on every word. Old caucasian males, young east Asian female students, all laughing, listening, and taking in the important messages being shared to them.

Jodi Grothe becomes an official superhero when she saves a young girl from nearly drowning! As an added cherry on top, she also has the power to save your bank account. If you want the lowdown on what scholarships are available at Penn State, Grothe also holds the title as stewardship coordinator. Currently Grothe spends her working days sharing information on how to get money for free. Coming from York Haven, PA, Grothe splits her time being a mom, an elected school board member, and a worker and student at Penn State Harrisburg.
Grothe should also be elected as superhero of the year. Grothe recalls one of the most frightening events in her life when she had to jump into open water to save her friends daughter. The daughter fell off a dock and into the water. Though Grothe has her own fear of the water, she managed to put that aside and jump in and save the day. Grothe, who stated is usually “terrified” of water was struck by adrenaline in this real-life superhero moment. The young girl was safe and sound and but it’s unlikely Grothe will be auditioning for Aquaman.
What was Grothe like before saving people’s lives and helping students earn money towards their educations? Well one of her favorite childhood activities was being a baton thrower in her high school marching band ensemble. However, if she had to be a superhero what would her power be? Grothe prefers invisibility.
Grothe should also consider the ability to fly as she traveled to places like Ocean City, MD, to the Grand Canyon, all the way to the farthest destination she’s ever traveled, the Cayman Islands. Though she won’t be flying, hopefully she’ll get a chance to even see one of her favorite sports teams, The Philadelphia Flyers.

Court Story
Eight months ago in December of 1991, Lucy Marie Langdon and her accomplices, Talia Doe and Leon Yanks, were arrested for the murder of Lorelie Snow. Cops were called to the residence of Snow and her mother, Mabel White-Snow, on 90 Black Drive in Lancaster. Injuries such as a number of defensive wounds and telephone cord wrapped around her legs were discovered on her body. Snow and her mother were first separated when White-Snow got a call stating she had to meet at 7 a.m. the next morning in regard to an incident with her daughter Lorelie Snow. White-Snow followed these instructions during the time of the attack. Lorelie Snow was murdered on December 19, 1991, but the story actually begins the day before. On December 18th Mabel White-Snow, the mother of Lorelie Snow, was at work when she got a call requesting, she’d come to the junior high school for a meeting. The subject of that meeting was about her daughter and an incident that occurred outside the school’s gymnasium. The next day White-Snow left for that meeting while Lorelie did her hair. When Mabel White-Snow arrived at the school she found there was no one there to meet her so she left. However, during this time, Lucy Marie Langdon, with the help of Talia Doe, sliced Lorelie’s throat. They left her to die with multiple other injuries. As Mabel White-Snow reentered the condo and walked up the stairs, she found the body of Lorelie Snow lying bloody on the bedroom floor and a bloody bread knife next to her. As the mother screamed for help neighbor Edna Incredible called 911. Some of Lorelie’s last words were “Lucy did it”. When arresting officer Lt. Judy Doughnut of Lampeter Township PD arrived, she found the victim bloodied and gasping for air. Lucy Marie Landon is charged with murder in the first degree and eight months later a trial is held. On July 20, 1992 Honorable John Steele of Lancaster is the presiding judge assigned on this case. Landon is counseled by her defense attorney Christine Rain. During the trial a pair of sweatpants worn by Landon with blood proven to belong to Snow were found. According to accomplice Leon Yanks testimony, he “…did not know Doe and Landon’s intention to kill, just to harass.” This would all result in Lucy Marie Landon convicted of first-degree murder and criminal conspiracy. Landon was sentenced with life in prison without the parole. Her defense attorney Christine Rain plans to appeal this sentence. If you didn’t know the importance of attendance maybe the decisions of Talia Doe can teach you something. On the morning of the murder Doe arrived late to Penn Manor High School at 10:15 a.m.. Jamie Spangler, A gym teacher at the school, testified to seeing Doe’s face covered in scratches. Don’t commit a crime while you’re committing another crime.
