FANDOMS
Final Tumblr post for my semester

For the final topic, we will be talking about fandoms. Pretty sure everyone has heard about it and maybe some of us are part of a fandoms. Maybe some you might be interested in a certain gaming channel, and you constantly post about them or reposting their contents. That is considered as fandom. Maybe some of you are die-hard fans of Taylor Swift and you become a part of her fandom which is called Swifties. These are just the surface level understanding of what a fandom actually is. In today’s post, we will be going in details to understand what a fandom is and what it means to be a fandom and how does that affect someone’s self-value.

Before we begin, let us understand the definition of fandom. According to Zhao, Yang and Tan (2023), fandom is star-struck admirers initially created the fandom as an unplanned entertainment community, but it has since grown into a structured and niche group of interests. Basically, it is a group created by the community with one topic at the center. For example, if it is about football, the fandom will be about football. It can stem out to which football team type of fandom. Fandom can be about anything. From influencers, artists, famous individuals, pets etc. Fandom its not a new thing to humans. It existed way back in the 1800s. According to Seagriff (2023), Communities started holding events and get-togethers where people could connect as fandom continued to develop into other fields of interest. In the 1930s, the science fiction community took over, establishing groups in every city and even coining their own vocabulary, or "fanspeak." Since 1939, the World Science Fiction Convention has been held annually. Like humans, fandoms also evolve. From one topic to another and it gets interesting as it goes into deeper detail. This good for the community as it brings people of the same interest together. Conventions such as comic-con bring people together and allowing them to meet new people of the same interest while also have sharing sessions with everyone else in the convention.

Now that the internet exists, fandoms too has changed by the internet. You might think of the change in a bad way but instead it was a change in a good way. People around the world can connect with each other with internet applications such as social media, forums and fan sites. Fan culture grew in popularity along with the internet's widespread usage. You might just look up your favourite band or TV show online and discover a community of people who share your interests. Fans quickly jumped on websites like LiveJournal to post and create communities, ushering in an era of blogs and forums (Hanai & Trikosho, 2024). With the online fandom communities, that became the foundation where fan activities are born. Examples of fan activities include fan fiction, fan arts and even role-play. Generally, it is a fun idea by the community so that they could engage and have with each other without having to be there physically. In a sense, it does promote inclusivity inside the fandoms. The way these people communicate with each other is with the help of social media and the help of AI. People with the same interest will have similar algorithm to ensure the contents that they see is the contents that they have interest in. Applications like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X etc they all have a different purpose for different fandoms. That is how online fandoms expand and have more reach for other people in the digital community.

Next, what exactly is the impact of fandoms on mainstream culture? According to Yellowbrick (2023), the power of fandom culture to mould and impact popular media is among its most important features. Fan communities have the ability to generate excitement, build hype around a new release, and even influence the creative choices made by game developers, authors, and filmmakers. Fandoms have the power to make something, or someone go viral. With the large amount of people in a fandom, it is possible for a fandom to help increase the popularity of a certain subject. Fandoms also have their benefits for personal value. For example, when someone is a part of a fandom. It gives them a sense of belonging, allowing them to feel like they are a part of something. Since a fandom is a community group of people with the same interest, you can freely express what you feel without the worry of being judged. This helps with mental health and even provide emotional support. When it comes to the industry. A fandom could influence an industry of any sorts. When a huge amount of number of fans requests for something from the industry, it gives pressure for the industry to create something special for the fandom. This act of service by the industry is called fan service. Where the power of fandom could directly influence the industry.
In conclusion, fandom is more than just being part of a group in the community. It has existed way back in the 1800s and with the existence of internet the fandom also evolve to adapt with online community and its direct impact on the industry and towards individuals. Fandom is important in the community, it helps to provide a safe space for like minded individuals and it also helps with individuals to make new friends and share the experience with other people.

Tumblr Post No 4
Hello again and welcome back to a new topic
In today’s topic it will be about crowdsourcing and crowdfunding
Maybe some of you might have heard of crowdfunding but not everyone has heard of crowdsourcing. What exactly is crowdsourcing? The words "crowd" and "outsourcing" are combined to form crowdsourcing. A corporation outsources its own work processes when it uses crowdsourcing. As a result, it is a separate type of labour division. This has more to do with business procedures like gathering ideas for new goods than it does with traditional outsourcing (Thieringer, n,d). In other words, outsourcing is letting work be done by outside sources. For example, when a company hires someone outside of the company to do a specific work for them instead of letting the people from the inside do the work. This effort saves money, able to access people with specific skills needed for the work and gives a company more time to focus on core activities. Crowdfunding on the other hand is easier to understand. According to European Union (n,d) One method of generating funds to support initiatives and enterprises is through crowdfunding. It makes it possible for fundraisers to use online platforms to gather money from a big number of individuals. This is mostly used by companies that are planning to startup or for projects that need the funds to proceed with production.
So, is crowdfunding and crowdsourcing are beneficial? Well, not exactly, every aspect in life has their own pros and cons. Same with crowdsourcing and crowdfunding, they both have their own cons. Lets start with the pros and cons for crowdsourcing. One of the pros is that it saves costs. Next is fresh perspective, brand promotion, new hires and hands-off approach. For hands-off approach. This stands out most for the pros of crowdsourcing. Despite having many resources at their disposal, time is usually not one of them for CEOs and company managers. The manager of a standard R&D project must continuously monitor the team's performance and make sure they are achieving deadlines (Bakire n,d). Companies usually would have to supervise each assignment that are given respectfully but with crowdsourcing, time is not an issue as there are many people who can access the task would make sure they do the work properly and quickly following the given time. The cons for this are confidentiality, plagiarism, potential for failure, amateurs and intellectual property rights. According to Bakire (n,d) if this deficit is not adequately handled, it could turn disastrous. Intellectual property rights usually belong to the person who came up with the idea. This implies that businesses must make sure they receive the winning idea's intellectual property rights after the challenge is over. To make sure that there are no further issues for the winning idea, the company must ensure that there is an agreement for both the company and the outsource individual.
Next is crowdfunding. One of the benefits of crowdfunding is that it is communication oriented. This gives people who give money or investors in other terms updates on any progress. Secondly, crowdfunding means not giving up equity. According to Startups (n,d) when purchasing a crowdsourced product, consider the audience to be similar to investors. Instead of equity, these investors are receiving benefits. This is far safer approach than asking for a loan from the bank. However, it does have its own risks. Third, it creates a network effect. It is true that you can generate a strong network impact on a funding portal that you cannot obtain by just keeping your fundraise hidden, even if we will argue that funding portals do not discover investors for you (Startups n,d). This really helps expand the network for each investor. Meeting new people could possibly be beneficial. Moving on to the cons of crowdfunding. Crowdfunding does not help find investors. Even while thousands of millions of potential backers may be registered on a funding site, that doesn't mean they are all swarming to your particular fundraiser—or any fundraiser, for that matter. Nobody is dying to spend endless hours searching a website in the aim of losing their money (Starups n,d). That mean, if a specific project and or a company wanted funds to startup their business. They would have to to find a solution to attract other people to invest in their business or projects. Similar to other companies and projects. All the fundings must be convincing for the investors so that they feel like their investment is not a waste.
To conclude, crowdfunding and crowdsourcing both rely on outside sources. It does bring benefits that could help with a specific activity at a low cost. This action also helps to generate and bring in new and innovative ideas that could help with improvements. Although it does have its own cons. With careful planning, it would be easier to work through the disadvantages.

ACTIVISM and PROTESTS
HEYA, HEYA, HEYA 한입에 널 삼킬 때야
In today’s post, we will look at protests Israel’s brutality. As we all know, I am sure everyone has seen the genocide that Israel did to Palestine. It has gone so far that israel is now attacking and continue their massacre to Lebanon. To put in perspective, a lot of people in the world, especially the pro-israel believed that the conflict started on October 7th 2023. However, that is totally inaccurate because the conflict between israel and Palestine started hundreds of years ago. A colonial deed committed more than a century ago is the origin of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of millions more (Alsaafin 2023). People started to believe the conflict was because of Palestinians. However, after months of massacre, breaking international laws and news publishing that shows how one sided the conflict is between the two. More people are starting to be convinced that israel is playing victim. With that being said, a protest has been going on around the world against israel’s actions.
Countries that is pro-israel tries to defend israel by warning the protestors. According to US media, the US warned Americans living overseas about planned demonstrations against the occupying state's crimes in the Gaza Strip on Friday at the occupying state's embassies in Washington and other places worldwide (MEMO 2024). People in the US planned a protests on the 25th of October this year. The government then released a statement on X warning the people to stop being involved in the protest. Pro-israel countries such as the US, Canada, Great Britain etc, are trying to silence the people who stand for Palestine. However with the help of social media and the rapid spread of information, people around the world stand up against the genocide supporters. Doing a physical protest and even digital protest.
The first protest started against companies that supported israel. The boycott has led to a major decrease of sales for companies such as Starbucks, Nestle, McDonalds and many more. The protest worked so well that even some of the branches around the world had to be closed. Starbucks, McDonald's, and other well-known American businesses have been singled out due to their alleged backing of Israel and its conflict in Gaza. McDonald's came under fire for providing Israeli soldiers with free lunches, and Starbucks was involved in a court battle with a labour union over a pro-Palestine message. In the Middle East, consumer boycotts of Western companies have a long history and are frequently motivated by cultural, religious, and political tensions (Alexander 2024).
The protest is not just against products, it affects anyone and anything that shows any sign of silence against Palestine and support towards israel. Celebrities who are thought to be insensitive to or even sympathetic of the death and destruction in the Palestinian enclave are the subject of a cyber movement that has emerged in recent days as a result of the escalating protests against Israel's war on Gaza. The campaign that gained popularity following the May 6 Met Gala has been dubbed "Blockout 2024," "Celebrity Block List," and "digitine." Blocking well-known celebrities on social media platforms like Instagram, X, and TikTok is the concept (Shamim 2024).
The protest also affected the education system. It does not change the structure of the education, the protest consist of students voicing out their support for Palestine. Since protests started at Columbia University in New York, demonstrations have taken place at about 140 college campuses in 45 states and Washington, DC. About a week ago, dramatic events occurred at Columbia University when police officers entered the campus and more than 100 students were arrested (Gohil & Henley 2024). The protest that happened was Columbia University students changing their hall name to Hind’s Hall. The hall which originally was named Hamilton hall was changed and named after a Palestinian girl who was killed in Gaza. The protest was seen as a subtle protest. However, Joe Biden sees the protest differently. Claims that the protests were peaceful were denied by Joe Biden. According to the US president, "destroying property is not a peaceful protest; it is against the law." "Any form of hate speech or violence, including antisemitism, Islamophobia, and discrimination against Arab Americans or Palestinian Americans, has no place," Biden continued (Gohil & Henley 2024).
Some might say voicing out our opinions, boycotting and cancelling celebrities might have no impact on the conflict. But on the business side, it helped slowed down the genocide by not giving israel governments and any pro-israel supporters the financial support by cutting off their source of finance. In conclusion, while this protest may show support to Palestine and hate towards israel. The people around the world are just doing their part to stand up for Human Rights. Nobody in this world would want to see their brothers and sisters getting killed for no apparent reason. While the pro israel does speak up and mentioned that they only want peace. That is not the right way to peace. No human should die just so we can live in peace. We are living in the world of deception.

BLOG POST 2

In this week’s lecture. It explains about Digital Citizenship. What is Digital Citizenship? It is the ability to utilise technology sensibly, securely, and politely is known as digital citizenship. It refers to the capacity to safeguard private information on the internet, reduce the risks brought on by cyberthreats or other online threats, and use information and media in a polite, informed, and lawful manner (Lcom 2023). For this week’s post. It will further explain the components of Digital Citizenship.

The first component of digital citizenship is Internet safety. With how the internet has been used widely in this world of modern technology, safety is always a first in everything regardless of what are the aspects of life that exist. Crime exists everywhere, like the real world. Crime also happens on the internet and that is why internet safety is a must. Despite their connections, these subjects are distinct concepts. Internet safety includes specific dos and don'ts to protect kids, while digital citizenship curriculum focusses on how behavior and actions spread and affect others on the online and the ways users should conduct themselves as good citizens of this digital world (Twomey n.d). There are many safety precautions when it comes to internet activities to ensure the users data is safe and protected. For example, always use a strong password. Even with a strong password, users are advised not to use password that is related to themselves to increase the security of the account. When it comes to scams and such, it can happen in creative ways. Therefore, users are advised to be aware of what link they encounter and not to simply click on any link as they could be a phishing link. As for scam calls, it is best to first listen to the caller and analyse it. If the caller sounds very suspicious, it is best to end call. And never answer yes or no as hackers might already have the user’s data and they only need verification to use the data.

Secondly, verifying sources. Before the internet, society is used to information being spread slowly. But with technology, information can now be spread in a blink of an eye. And since information sharing is now faster than ever. Misinformation can happen at any given moment. This will cause disruption in society if users are not careful with the information that they share. It's imperative that professionals adopt a critical mindset and see the value of confirming the veracity and authenticity of the material they encounter (Kariuki 2023). With critical thinking, users can help to prevent misinformation to be spread. These steps will help to ensure that whatever information that a user come across is proper. Before sharing, it is best to fact-check the information and to not just simply believe what people online have shared or posted. Research on said information and make sure that whatever is shared is accurate. While fact-checking is important. Reliability is equally as important. It is recommended that users identify whether the origin of the information is published by a reliable website/account. There are a lot of people who create multiple accounts or even a website just to publish fake news to the online community and that causes disruption. As for students, especially those who are continuing their studies in the higher education. They are advised to ensure their citations is a proper citation and that the resources they gathered are from a reputable source. Other than making sure students learn to be a responsible digital citizen, they can also save their marks on their assignments.

Third concept is managing inappropriate content. With internet. There are many information and contents that can be found online and can be searched in the matter of seconds. One of them is inappropriate content. What exactly is considered as inappropriate content? This can vary differently by age. But to narrow it down for a student perspective, it is content like the dark web, adult websites, weapons etc. These are websites that are very inappropriate to students. Even if they do not know how to search for these contents, they may accidentally stumble across these contents. Raising awareness and instructing others on how to be good digital citizens are important aspects of being a good digital citizen. Teach teenagers how to constructively discuss harmful internet activity with their friends. Assist them in recognising when something has gotten too far for them to manage alone and in understanding boundaries (Shannon n.d). Adults should help raise awareness on this issue. Always supervise their children’s online activity. Adults are responsible to nurture their children’s childhood and let them enjoy it as they should. As users, when come across with inappropriate content, it is recommended to report the content and adjust their profile and choose what content that users want and do not want to see.
In conclusion, being a good digital citizen is important for everyone to ensure a fun, interactive and safe environment for others, especially for children to use. This also keeps the internet safe to use for everyone. The government should also improve the cyber security so that the people are assured that their data is well kept secure.

Is blogging still relevant in the age of TikToks and Instagram?

Technological advancement has reached further height in terms of art. With the existence of platform such as Tiktok and Instagram, it allows people to create and share their creativity in forms such as video, image and in type in form. With trend flowing in a rapid rate, a lot of people want to follow from a trend to another. Blogging is a form of people to express themselves and also to share and gather information. However, platforms like Tiktok and Instagram change how people consume content as mentioned previously through videos making and image publication. Blogging is still significant because of its depth, accessibility, and possibility for evergreen content, even though TikTok and Instagram have completely changed the way people consume content.
Blogging is still the key channel for in-depth content. The goal of a blog is to make your brand's website more interesting. You can use a blog section on your website to educate customers on subjects related to your industry, in addition to utilising it to educate visitors about your goods and services. In addition, a blog can increase search engine traffic to your website. More visitors will be able to discover your blog entries and maybe the rest of your website through search engine optimisation by using relevant keywords (Indeed 2024). Blogging is more than just to do business, it is true that a person can use blogging to promote their business and improve their business quality. Blogging can also help with enhancing language skills. In the classroom, students can have their own area for reading and writing in addition to a shared area where ideas are exchanged, questions are asked and answered, and social cohesion is fostered, according to Huffaker (2005:94). While blogs shouldn't take the role of in-person communication in language learning, they can be useful tools for improving writing abilities and offer a practice setting where students can analyse, think critically, and progressively produce language for a real-world audience (Pinkman, 2005).
Blogging maintains its competitive advantage as a potent tool for search engine optimisation (SEO). What is SEO? It is the process of starting and maintaining a blog in order to raise its search engine rankings is known as blog SEO. This strategy often consists of content creation, image optimisation, link development, and keyword research (Coleman 2024). This gives blogging an advantage because it is easier to search a specific blog in google while platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram content is not easily searchable. There are plenty of benefits when it comes to ranking high on search engines. One of the benefits are boosting credibility because businesses and other people will know that the quality of work is high and is trustworthy. Other than that, it is free, it is always best to make take opportunity and make use of a free product that can help boost business. Next is that it supports content marketing. SEO and original content go hand in hand. If you provide useful content for your visitors—such as text, photos, and videos—your website will perform better in search results. However, SEO can also help with content marketing. Because search engines favour new information, make sure your content is optimised for the keywords you want to rank for and is of the highest quality. You should also update your content frequently (Muthoni 2021). There are still many for benefits to blogging therefore it is still relevant now with how helpful it is for businesses.
In conclusion, even with the rise in popularity of Instagram and TikTok, blogging is still important for some things like delivering evergreen material, SEO advantages, and in-depth storytelling. Blogging will still continue to be relevant even if there is a lot more platform similar to Tiktok. Instead of being shadowed by these platforms, blogging will continue to grow with all the new social media platforms. Technology will evolve just like humans with a restriction that technology require humans to program them. With that being said, blogging too will evolve, it will adapt with time and to fit it with other people’s taste. And with the help of artificial intelligence, it will increase efficiency even more.
