continued from here with @oftomorrow
"I don't think he'll try to hurt me. 'Specially not once he figures out why I'm there," Bucky said. "But if I do need backup, you wouldn't be who I'd call anyway." She shot Clark a wry smile. "No offense," she said, "but I think Superman showin' up and helpin' bust someone out of a foreign country's high-security prison might kick off an international incident."
In other words, this was a spy job, not a superhero job.

@zrhythrev (Kara)
Although Clark had given Bucky an ELT several years ago, she had never used it. After all, she was more than capable of handling most of the things life threw at her, and when she did need help, it was usually with a something that she wouldn't want Clark involved with in the first place. So while Bucky was happy to keep the device on her person just in case, she'd never actually pressed the button.
At least, not until today.
As she dashed down the hallways on the twelfth story of Penn South Building 8, banging on doors and shouting to rouse any residents who might be sleeping and thus unaware of the fire that was rapidly engulfing both their building and the buildings on either side, Bucky knew that she was not going to be able to find and evacuate everyone in time -- and that wasn't even taking into account the people in two neighboring high-rises to which the flames had spread. Unlike so many of Bucky's SHIELD assignments, this was a job for Superman. So she took a moment to fish the ELT out of its special pocket in her vest, slammed her thumb on the button, and then went back to work.
Being inside the building, she didn't know for certain whether Clark had arrived until she was in one of the apartments on the next floor up, helping an older woman with a walker who definitely wasn't going to make it down the stairs on her own. At that moment, she saw a red-and-blue blur streak by outside, so she wrenched open the largest window, yelled, "In here!", and threw herself out of the way as the blur that was Superman swooped in and grabbed the woman, moving faster than Bucky's eyes could follow.
When she staggered out of the building a few minutes later, laden down with four crying toddlers from an in-home daycare on the fifteenth floor, she could see that the situation was finally under control. Ambulances had arrived for those who had been injured, and the uninjured residents, though distressed, had been moved out of danger and were being reassured by rescue personnel as they reunited with their loved ones. The fires in the buildings on either side had been extinguished, and heavy jets of water were rapidly doing the same to the top floors of the building Bucky had just exited.
The colored blur that was Superman could still be seen darting back and forth, until it streaked over to land beside her. Turning, Bucky said, "Thanks, pal. But I got bad news-- Oh!" Blinking at the woman in front of her, she said. "You're not Superman. Guess he was busy, huh? Thanks for comin', Supergirl. I appreciate it."
Pausing, Bucky wiped some soot off her face with her sleeve, and than added, "Definitely wasn't gonna be able to manage that one on my own. But what I was sayin' was, bad news: I got a hunch we're lookin' at an arsonist here."

Inspired by this:
“ You do not scared to tears, like a child,
You are not hurt, you’re just dead.
Best let me take off your felt boots,
I will also face the fight. “
I’m not sure if this is the proper translation though, it’s a clipping from some Russian book. But you get the idea of this poem…

Thing I only noticed recently in CATFA:
Zola acts cagey about the idea of serum and like he’s trying to dissuade Redskull from pursuing it
Redskull later tells Zola to increase factory production and Zola says the prisoners don’t have the ‘strength'
Between these two events, Zola was doing serum experiments on the prisoners (including Bucky) …which would increase their strength
But Redskull didn’t tell Zola to do that; he told him to work them to death and then replace them
(surely he would not have done this if the prisoners were valuable test subjects, in experiments Redskull himself had ordered).
in fact Redskull never shows any signs of being aware of Zola’s experiments; only Erskine's
(and is enraged to discover there is another supersoldier in existence with no physical side effects, despite not being ‘special.’)
Conclusion:
The Hydra serum experiments were exclusively Zola’s baby, not Redskull’s; we never saw him ordering it, so Zola wasn’t ‘just obeying orders,’ because he had none. He specifically went out of his way to torture those prisoners.
#meta#c: arnim zola#this is not an angle i had considered before but i like it#i had always assumed red skull knew and had given zola the green light#though zola obviously was not reluctant to carry out those experiments in any way#(just when i thought shield inviting zola in couldn't get worse)

Interesting. So Morgan Edge couldn't actually see inside the vault. He'd neglected to mention that in all their time spent planning. But Jane wasn't going to call him out on it; if he'd slipped, if he'd intended to keep it secret and hadn't realized that he'd betrayed himself, she certainly wasn't going to draw his attention to the fact.
As she knelt down and wiped her knife clean on the back of her victim's shirt, all she said was, "Everything's under control." Then, once she'd secured the blade, she asked, "Am I clear to exit?"

Damn these lead-lined walls. Tal has a glimpse of the man's silhouette as he enters the room, and then nothing. He can only hear a few short breaths over the comlink, and what might be the soft thud of a body.
"Miss Barnes?" he prompts after several moments. "Should I presume the situation has been taken care of?"

inv3rtebrate replied to your post:so your post about steve’s dream was AMAZING…

LET ME TELL EVERYONE ABOUT ACTUAL BROOKLYNITES – NAY, ACTUAL NEW YORKERS – STEVE ROGERS AND BUCKY BARNES
• Have you ever met a New Yorker outside of midtown who doesn’t talk with their mouth full? Me neither. Steve Rogers, garbled: “M’jus say’n s’bullshit,” he manages, and swallows. “Our team doesn’t belong in fuckin’ Cali. Listen. You hear that?” “Is it Jim Morita laughing at us from beyond the grave?“ “Hell yeah, it’s Jim Morita laughing at us from beyond the grave.”
• Steve Rogers getting splashed with water by a cab. “WHADDAYA DOIN, HUH? JESUS!”
• Steve Rogers, by turns incredibly polite and incredibly rude on the subway. “Is this guy bothering you? Because if he tries to grope you again, I’m kicking his ass, miss, pardon my French.”
• Food Trucks: The Autobiography of an American Hero
• Those dumb BKLYN ballcaps. Steve owns like minimum ten.
• Wary of visiting Barton in Bed-Stuy. “I think I liked it better when it was crooks,” he says to Buck, eyeing a hipster in confusion. That sweater has like fourteen different kinds of flowers embroidered on it; it looks like something his ma owned, only ironic.
• “How much is eighteen dollars in future money?” Bucky asks him inside the Balcony Lounge in the Met. Steve blanches, staring at the menu. “For a salad? Oh my God, we’re going to the cafeteria.”
• Haggling in the fish market. Listen to me, this is so important. “That fish is a fuckin’ tadpole, and you want how much for it?” Bucky demands. “Hell no, hell no, kid, I’m old enough to be your granddad. It’s fifteen for the bunch there or none.” “Sir, these are set prices.” Turning to Steve, incredulous: “Does nobody goddamn know how to do business anymore? I swear to Christ. Bleedin’ me dry. I’m moving to Hell’s Kitchen.” “Hell’s Kitchen is just as expensive, sir.” “Well, fuck a duck, Steve, you hear that?”
• Following along with a yoga class happening in Central from six feet away, hidden slightly behind a tree
• “Yeah, Carnegie got hit in the Chitauri attack.” “What?” “It’s fine! It’s fine! It’s still there!” Steve refers not to the hall, but the deli. Priorities.
• Searching for apartments. “I’m starting to get the feeling,” Steve says, “That it’s cheaper to live in Manhattan.” He reaches for the listings for the other borough. Bucky grabs his hand. “Do not,” he says, “If you don’t want to have an aneurysm.”
• Stopped by the HONY guy
• Bucky holding a stare-off with the 11 y/o kid on the subway wearing a Yankees jersey. The kid staring-off right back. Little punk.
• “Remember when New York was normal?” Steve asks Bucky, after watching the lady who owns the little domesticated monkey walk down Fifth Avenue, all up in her mink coat &etc. “Pal,” Bucky says, and drops a dollar into the can of a street performer, “New York was never normal.”

"D'you know why she's been skippin' chemo?" Bucky asked quietly. "Is it 'cause she's scared, or...I dunno, is it 'cause goin' would make the cancer feel too real? Or d'you think it's somethin' else? I feel like if you and her can sit down together and figure that out, it might be easier for her to face it. Maybe there's somethin' else you could do to help, 'sides pickin' her up and flyin' her there. Maybe there's some kinda reassurance she needs but doesn't know how to articulate."
It had been Natasha who had seen Bucky's own unarticulated need in the early days after they'd reunited. It had been Natasha who had sat Bucky down and promised her that if HYDRA ever got hold of her again, Natasha would try to rescue her. And if rescue proved impossible, then Natasha would kill her, because she knew Bucky would rather die than be controlled again. It seemed likely to Bucky that Lois, facing the possibility of her own death, might be suffering from an anxiety that was similar in shape, though likely not similar in the details.

"Yeah," Clark admits softly. Even now, thirty years later, every second of those helpless moments at his dad's side remained etched into his mind. Usually, a perfect Kryptonian memory is a blessing -- but times like that make it feel more like a curse.
"I just keep thinking... I was sixteen when I lost my dad. Same age as the boys are now, and with Lois..." He sighs, pointedly stopping his mind from finishing the rest of that thought.
"She has another chemo appointment Wednesday. And I am making absolutely sure that she actually goes. I will pick her up and fly her there myself if I have to."

@grimmusings / @vvidowbite || tips for winning my muse's heart || accepting

Be kind. Bucky is drawn to people who care about others and act on that care. Note that being kind is not necessarily the same thing as being nice. Most people probably wouldn't call Natasha nice, but Natasha has a heart big enough for the whole world, and one of the (many) reasons Bucky loves her is because she is unflagging in her efforts to protect the innocent, the helpless, and the abused.
Be tender. Bucky is all heart, and she wants a partner who will see that and who won't be embarrassed to be soft with her. So much of her life was and remains full of violence, and she wants someone who will offer her a gentle place to land when she comes home every day.
Be sharp. Bucky is deeply attracted to traits like intelligence and competence. She wants a partner who can keep up with her, because she's looking for a relationship between equals, not one that's unbalanced.
