Karedevil Week Day 7 - Free Choice - It’s Just a Spark on AO3

Something was different about Karen Page.

It was almost like she returned from summer vacation with a new personality. She was quieter, more reserved, and almost seemed to be forcing herself to have fun with her friends. Those who considered themselves closest to her were starting to get worried. But that all changed when she started hanging out with her new friend Matt Murdock. Hi again!

It's been a while since I've posted (I won't even count the years, and it pains me to say years, but that's where we are). I miss everyone on here and I'm sorry it's come to this, truly. Life has been a roller coaster, as I'm sure it's been for many of you.

That being said, I wanted to let you know that my fanfic has always been in the back of my brain and close to my heart and I've had plans to post more when I had the time. I still intend to do this, but it is fighting with my urge to write, get this: my first romcom! I've been reading like crazy, writing like mad, and loving the work I've been doing (now full time) and I hope you will too.

Currently I have two projects I'm writing: one with my best friend and one on my own. When they're in the final stages and published (probably on KU), I'll post links. My hope is that those who love my writing, those that have been firm supporters and helped me find my passion will want to see what I've been pouring my blood, sweat, and tears into. No pressure ❤️

Either way, I love you guys, I miss my friends on here and I hope to reconnect (even though I suck at messaging), and I will always be thinking about the place I got my start. I'd be nowhere without it.

Also, I'm posting two new chapters of It's Just a Spark. I had it pretty well done before I disappeared, and I'm only editing it slightly so I can just post. I like to think my style and writing have improved since writing this, but I can only nitpick so much, so I'm not going to. At the moment it will be the only thing I'm adding, but I have plans to continue the works I started, I promise.

I just dropped off my ballot at city hall. There was no one else there except the nice, very young man sitting by the collection box, so I have nothing exciting to report. No fuss, no muss. Some college/law school fluff would be much appreciated, if you are procrastinating your work then maybe the boys could be doing the same? This is a lovely idea, thank you!

The weirdest thing is probably that the first kiss was their first kiss and Matt’s so spaced out from lack of sleep and actual food and the fact that he’s got more caffeine currently in his body than he’s had collectively in his life that he barely remembers how they got here. Matt had shut his laptop and buried his face into his pillow to scream and Foggy had climbed onto his bed and said. . .something--words--and then. . .

Matt might’ve kissed him first. Touching Foggy has become normal for him this year but kissing him has always been abstract, something he tries to put aside because he doesn’t want to fuck things up and have to find a new roommate next semester.

Also, if he’s going to have a sexual identity crisis, he wishes it would’ve happened sometime that isn’t finals week but Foggy’s mouth is soft and wet and he’s holding Matt down a little with his body while he’s straddling him and. . .it’s too distracting for his brain to escalate too much yet.

“Is this okay?” Foggy murmurs, not even giving Matt a chance to answer before his tongue’s in Matt’s mouth again. 

“Mmm hmm,” he hums, dragging his fingers through Foggy’s hair. 

A few minutes later, Foggy breaks away and says, “We should probably stop and. . .study. We were studying, I think.” 

“. . .we’re just taking a break,” Matt says, catching his breath. “Right?” 

“The last time we took a break, we spent two hours thumb wrestling, not. . .” Foggy says, waving his hand in the air. “I just made a vague gesture. Whatever this is.” 

“I liked holding your hand,” Matt says, too abruptly, turning what he’s sure is bright red. Foggy laughs and runs his fingers over Matt’s cheek. 

“I liked it, too,” he says, “but this is different, I think.”

Matt sits up so Foggy moves off of him, hesitating before he leans in close to press a kiss to the corner of Foggy’s mouth. Foggy rests his forehead against Matt’s, sighing softly. 

“If we finish studying,” he says, running his hands down Matt’s arms to take both of his hands, lacing their fingers together, “then we can do this for as long as we want. We don’t even have to talk about what it means yet. Or--if it means something.” 

“It means something,” Matt says, immediately.

Maybe he can skip the sexual crisis altogether and just lean into it. Like, go ahead and propose.

"Good,” Foggy says, sounding happy. “That’s--to me, too. Now, I’ll kiss you again once I finish reading the next chapter, okay?”  

Matt doesn’t intentionally pout, except for how he kind of does, but Foggy breaks immediately to murmur, “Yeah, fine, with the face,” and lean in and press a kiss to his mouth.

What’s your fannish ID? Quietshade. I’ve been writing and in the fandom arena since the late 90s.

What types of fanworks do you create? I do Fics and art. I also started a comic, but this year has kept me too busy to continue. I hope to go back to it eventually. I’m also thinking of branching into visual novel territory since it involves my three passions, writing, drawing and video games.

What are your favourite types of fanworks, when you’re not creating? Fics, I like reading the best.

What do you like in particular about this fandom? Hmm, I really like the ideas behind Daredevil. I think they managed to tell grounded and layered stories while mixing up the superhero genre and that really appealed to me. But mostly I’ve stayed because of the people I’ve met here. It’s a really nice community. Regarding characters, ships and tropes. I am partial to Karedevil, but I love each one of Matt’s relationships, and I find some joy in each of the characters. I love how human they are. They’re flawed, they make mistakes, and they all struggled to find the best version of themselves. That’s something I really appreciate. That’s probably my favorite trope, if it can be called that. I just love seeing people overcome challenge and how that brings out the bets and the worst out of them. So I guess that’s the kind of stories I prefer.

Do you like participating in fan events? Hmm, the short answer is yes. I enjoy it. I like interacting with people and I like the sense of community those events bring. But I’m also an introvert with some degree of social anxiety so these events tired me out pretty fast. I end up skipping a lot of them because I just don’t have the energy to do them at a given time. I’m also part of the @karedevilsquad and admin the @karedevilbingo.

What about your creating process? My process is a mess, don’t use me as an example please. Lol I’m the kind of person that zooms in and forgets about everything. When I’m in the mood I just sit down and everything pours out. I can spend hours and hours working without a break, but If I can’t find that mood then I’m pretty much doing stuff at slug pace… I use music for inspiration, to get me into the zone, but once I’m there the music gets in the way. So yeah, I’m literally a case of whenever the muse strikes.

Do you interact a lot with other fans? I do, kind of. I have some regular fan friends I speak to a lot, but it is hard for me to speak to new fans. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have such a hard time talking to new people, but I’m also very happy with the friends I already have.

Is there any particular piece you’d like to showcase for this post? I guess… I’m usually happy with whatever I made the last. Because anything new I make is a challenge I was able to overcome. Do you have other fandoms you’d like to talk about? Oh dear. All the sad boys/girls stories. I mean it. I really like the type of character driven stories with people who have had sad/difficult lives but are still kind and trying their best to make the world a happier place. Full Metal Alchemist, Fruits Basket, The promised Neverland, Final Fantasy 7, so many of Marvel and DC stories lol the list is too long.

Is there anything else you want to tell us about yourself? I guess… that English isn’t my language… I’m sorry about all the mistakes you might find. ^-^’
