So I was rewatching the first episode of Born Again and guys...

At Josie's, flirting back and forth

"Well, we could just get out of here?" "You and me?" "Yeah" "sounds nice, although I think it's a distinct violation of the Friends Code" "Ah, the Friends Code. I keep forgetting about the Friends Code" No one's above the law" "Certainly not you, Miss Page"

Talking with Kirsten. She later sets him up with her friend

"Have you heard from her?", "I have not, no" "Well, when the time is right..." "I know what you're trying to do and I appreciate it. Thank you.

After the Veredict

They are clearly hinting at a relationship there. A friends with benefits kind of thing at the very least, maybe a little more than that, who knows? But definitely something more than friendship and serious enough for his coworker/friend to know about it even when they haven't seen each other in so long.

The only reason they hinted at it instead of outright saying the words is because they weren't going to adress it this first season. There's no point in making a big deal out of it if they were planning to make us wait for season 2.

So I realized my fic Blind Spot never explains how Matt and Karen got back together...

which is why I wrote a little oneshot fic, as a prequel! 

It's a standalone piece, so you don't have to have read any of my longfic for it to make sense. It's also mostly fluff, which I don't often write, but it was kind of fun for a one-off.

There is a sex scene just fyi, but I wouldn't really call it explicit. I did want to give a warning, though, in case people aren't looking for that sort of thing (especially since I don't have any sex scenes in Blind Spot, so this might feel a little unexpected).

Anyway please enjoy! 

(The song choice of this story comes from my longfic. I originally chose it on a whim because it had the time signature I needed. Now I've gone and made it a part of Matt and Karen's history. So I guess it's time to go back and retcon that chapter of Blind Spot, lol)

All I keep thinking about the is reference in DDS1 when Karen makes her Grandmother’s recipe that she was made to promise she’d only make for her future husband…. I know that was DD, so the writers are different, but that always felt like really obvious symbolism to me that they don’t know it yet, in the way no one does in life, but that perhaps she really was feeding it with virtue to the man she’ll end up with after all…

So many seem so convinced that we’re seeing Matt & Karen at their Indian Restaurant for DDBA2 just because it’s a flashback… and perhaps for one of the two occasions they shot there, it could easily be since they clearly hid them & the costumes… but the second time they went there, they’re in new costumes, openly shooting outside, and they’re smiling and happy and Matt has his new DDBA glasses on…

Seems pretty clear to me that we may get some of the missing first date content, but that it looks just as likely we’re getting possible their second date in the present day as well… One also has to ask in plot terms, why would they want to show us flashbacks to more of their First Date/One Perfect Night content…unless it’s because they intend to build on that romantic foundation in DDBA2? There’s literally no other reason to even show it to us, unless it’s because it’s relevant to the plot & their emotional journeys. Even just the existence of a flashback to that one night alone would tell me that the writers intend to remind us of their chemistry, how it’s never really been anyone for either of them since they knew the truth about each other - how much they have grown since that One Perfect Night™️ (which, in a lot of ways, was a fantasy rather than reality, because neither were showing their true selves).

And That… AND we’ve seen holding hands on the street in disguise in a completely different scene which I would wager is sit earlier in the series when they’re still in hiding? (Which tbh is way more interesting to me, because what possible reason would they have to hold hands in public when they’re clearly in hiding… other than because Matt is being protective of her…. because they’re using the fact they’re a ‘able bodied couple’ to hide in plain sight??… Or because something by that point has happened behind closed doors that changes their dynamic back into a romance one and he can’t help himself but take her hand like it’s just their normal now…)

Either way, we’re clearly so back. I can’t wait for their scenes together to see their gradual journey back together come to life.

we've got karen in a brown coat and brown sweater for the josie's scene...

karen in a green dress and brown coat at the courthouse...

karen in a brown coat and green shirt in the finale...

karen in brown coats while she's undercover...

karen in a greenish shirt and brown skirt for the indian restaurant date...

all these earth tones say to me "groundedness." karen represents the real (in contrast to matt's fake life in dd:ba s1) and the real people who don't have superpowers who still fight for justice ("people like her are why i do this").

i think karen also keeps matt grounded in both sides of himself. she's the one to convince him not to give into his darkest impulses (season 3 with fisk and ddba with red hook) and the one to bring out his dd side when he's repressing that (giving him back his devil horn). the hints of red with her wig and her scarf/mask show that daredevil side as well. karen is part of daredevil and she's part of matt murdock and it's a beautiful relationship

Why no one told me the lyrics of the song at the end of ep2 of Born Again were not just about Matt wanting to let the Devil out, but about him missing Karen too, huh?

I swear Matt and Karen's kiss after their first date is one of the best kiss scenes I have ever seen in my life (especially from a straight couple).
