Shay takes her phone back and looks at the profile of the one Grusha picked out. "Oh yeah this little guy."

That one in particular was a little smaller than the typical Growlithe size, but was nonetheless healthy. "A bit of a defensive spitfire but is a good listener. Absolutely loves new people so she'll get along with everyone just fine."

There was a few ways to go about getting the pup: one was Shay going to physically get her, another was bringing Grusha to her house... that might be a bit much, she could always fast travel or just have the ball transported here under her party registration temporarily.

Oh, right, there was that other thing.

"If that's the girl you want to go for then I can start setting you up as a foster applicant. We are just very particular about security but like I said: referral will expedite that no problem." She was going to have to call her mom though. "I can have her transported here if you wanted to meet her personally first?"

⠀makes sense.⠀outright adoption probably would be easier, but he's uncertain of the idea—⠀worried that young fire - type would be far too uncomfortable here, up where snow replaces grass and tree.

⠀at the very least, if it didn't thrive in this climate, it could always return to a likely much warmer sanctuary.

⠀“ hmm. ”

⠀he's browsing through the list on her phone she hands over, scratching at his leg in idle thought.⠀the ones with golden coats must be rare—⠀were those shiny?—⠀and . . .⠀what's up with the curly - haired ones?

⠀“ how about that one? ”

⠀when he offers the phone back, the page is on a rather plain but cute growlithe—⠀looking past the rare colors and breeds for the underdog ( pun intended ) that just might need a chance.

Fine, she won't say a word about it. Growlithe made sense, considering he seemed cold all the time. Asharas could only fit in so many spaces to keep him warm, and inside was not one of them.

"Growlithe is something I know we have." She was already searching for Growlithe in the system.

"Fostering is always a great idea. A lot just adopt outright but that won't be an issue." Shay hadn't looked up from her phone yet, she seemed very focused on finding the perfect list for Grusha to look through. "Getting you a referral for foster registration won't take long either."

Shay rarely used her referrals; given Grusha was also a gym leader, there wouldn't be any issue with him being approved. It was just going to be her personal buzzing of her family she'd have to deal with later.

Finally there was a list of seven or so Growlithe's that she thought would best suit Grusha. Some were normal, some were a gold colour, and some had a darker, stony fur pattern.

She handed her phone over to him. "These are the ones that are ready for fostering or adoption. The ones with the head spikes are from the Time Capsule program."

⠀she could probably swear he just rolled his eyes.⠀so this sass is the thanks he gets for offering her a place to not freeze to death, huh.

⠀“ I was thinking about . . .⠀a growlithe. ”

⠀the idea's appealing, at least to him;⠀it certainly looked like a warm pokémon, had no open flame to risk igniting anything on accident, and it should be easier to handle than aiming for its already fully grown counterpart.

⠀growlithe certainly looked cute and cuddly too, but he's giving her a look that tells her not to say a word about it . . .

⠀“ but . . .⠀I'm not entirely sure if it'd like staying up here.⠀you think fostering beforehand is an okay idea? ”

"Yellow is... something. Not in a thing way but like, not normal. I'm not normal but they are... strange. In a good way though! Their affinity for nature is really, I don't know. Maybe I'm a little envious of it? I guess I called them what I did since I don't, really like people. Yeah that came off well didn't it- anyway...

"Definitely a person, who is strange... I hope they get better. I'd like to just vibe in the forest with them sometime."

⠀“ hey . . .⠀bit of a sudden question.

⠀you said your family runs a . . .⠀sanctuary, right?⠀I've been considering a certain pokémon lately. ”

"I don't think it's much of a sudden question granted I am sitting on your couch."

She was fine camping out but she had the feeling someone wasn't going to entertain the idea of her staying in a cabin made of mud and logs during a blizzard.

Sassing aside, she continued. "Yep, we do and have for ages. If you're considering getting a certain Pokemon then we likely have one up for adoption."

Leaning over the side of the couch, she grabbed her phone from her bag and started to go through some apps. Shay was a PokeGear appreciator through and through but a smartphone had it's perks. One of them was being able to log into said sanctuary's data base to see what was on the adoption registry.

"Grusha is someone I understand. I don't get that with a lot of people. He doesn't try and force conversation when I visit. It doesn't feel difficult to talk like a normal person with him either. I'm not sure why he got a bit defensive when I told him I think he's more interesting than me. I guess the different normals we have make interesting different for us. Pot calling kettle. Anyway... I think I am going to have to get a toy harmonica for Ponchik and Borea. I am pretty sure she keeps talling me up to Grusha's snowball. It's weird looking forward to visiting someone, not family.

"I should probably bring something for his Altaria and Weavile next time..."

Aw no she got this close to calling him pretty. Next time.

"I am not a great person, but without Oton, I would be a terrible person. I love him a lot. I just wish he would qork less and take more time off. We haven't been camping in ages and I miss him. The world wasn't kind to me when I was a teenager, but I am glad he was there. I think my Dad would be really proud of him and thankful for helping take care of me and all my bullshit. He was super proud of that cape he got me. It makes for a good travel blanket. One of these days, I am making him go on a two week vacation so we can do our dragon studies again.

As for the other guy...

"Wataru... if he ever impersonates my Oton again, I am removing kindness from my morals. I will make sure he never sees the end of consequence. I will make sure he is never able to sit up, let alone stand up to me and him ever again. I will rip him down piece by piece until he can't so much as gasp for mercy. He may have tried to kill me, but no one hurts anyone I care about."

"Sometimes he focuses too much on the wrong of a place. I suppose someone in his position where he's fixing or trying to fix things does that. It makes me worry, to he honest. Ali tries harder than I do, and I am a self described tryhard. I don't think he takes enough time for himself to just, stop moving.

"Maybe it's an Orrean thing I don't get? The place feels like an... industrial cyborg and Ali is its life support. I'm not someone who knows political stuff or economy well. Just some random country girl he took a liking to. Maybe my nature affinity can help, but I do worry for him. A lot."

Granted hearing Yellow describe Lance was... off. That didn't sound like Lance but who was Yellow to lie to her? Then again the world was a strange place and... well it didn't sound too far off from someone else.

Well they could go over it later.

"Sorry." she sighs, trying to not be frustrated with herself; these things take time.

"I don't know how your power works or... what you mean by it won't anymore but you're got permission to use it on me. Or at least I don't mind it since you said the thing from earlier..."

Gods stop talking Shay let Yellow do the thing.

Yellow blinks.

“You can say shit.” They sound … mildly offended? “Not a child. Not innocent minded, like people think. Just … different.” They cough into their fist. “Not good. Not bad. Just different.”

Still, they get annoyed when people treat them as if they’ve never heard swear words.

“Aniki — your oton tried to blow me up with hyper beam once. And then a flamethrower. And then broke my arm.” They wave their arm as they mention it. “won’t be offended by swear words. And anyway…

nothing you can do, really. My fault. Used my power too much. It happens.” A pause. “It won’t anymore.”
