Every performer in the music industry uses a press release to announce new songs, a new album, a new video, or an upcoming tour, but press releases can do more than just inform the media and your fans of those standard events. With a bit of creative thought, musicians within the music industry should be able to come up with reasons to issue a regular stream of press releases. Every press release issued puts you and your music front and center on the public stage, right where you want to be, and any bit of information that would be of interest or useful to fans or others in the music industry is a fit subject for a press release. Here are press release ideas for bands to start a brainstorming press release jam session.

Music Marketing Press Release Distribution Case Study 1
mus5.co (and this smart music industry marketing blog) is a new site.  So when it came time to distribute a press release online to the music industry marketing community it was important to capture some of the results.  This was especially important considering we were making a limited quantity of press release distributions available to those within the music industry.  (Although the press release distribution services utilized here at mus5.co are equally effective in any industry or niche, mus5.co wanted to commit itself towards making this offer only available to indie artists and entrepreneurs within the music industry.)
It was initially impressive that for the search term “smart URL music marketing” mus5.co’s press release showed up on page 1 within Google’s ‘web’ tab under the section “In the News”.  This is powerful because when people go to search for that term that the press release was optimized for, it actually shows on Google’s web search results (Google’s default search tab) which usually requires long term commitment to rank on page 1 for and is most often countered with strong competition.  Not only does the music marketing press release show at the very to of page 1 within the “In the News” section of Google’s default web tab, but it also shows in position #2 for web results as well (something that was not even noticed at first when this screenshot was taken)   See below for proof:
1.  Google’s default Web tab
2.  Google’s “In the News” section within the default Web tab (this validates page 1 results as this does not show up beyond page 1 of Google’s Web results)
3.  Posted just 11 hours before taking this screeshot
4.  2nd position within Google’s Web results on page 1
These, as you can see are very powerful search engine ranking results.  The only thing Photoshop was used for was was to make the red arrows and numbers and also to crop the screenshot.  (In the future mus5.co is thinking of making a video of these search queries for any doubters out there.)
Seasoned SEO (Search Engine Optimization) experts would point out the “smart URL music marketing” is relatively noncompetitive and the results were relatively simple to achieve.  They would be absolutely correct but this press release was also designed to create and brand a new long-tail keyword search term phrase for people to associate with mus5.co in their minds.  It is a fresh concept for a keyword phrase and part of mus5.co’s music industry marketing branding and mind share efforts.
However, to debunk the critics and the skepticism lurking about  regarding the power of the press release distribution services utilized by mus5.co is the below screenshot for the very competitive and lucrative search term “music marketing“.  Please take note of the Brand popularity and strength of competition for the other results showing on this screenshot!
1.  “music marketing” – very competitive and lucrative search term
2.  Google’s News tab – The ‘News’ tab offers the option for people to “Create Alerts” for search terms so when news shows up, it is delivered to their email inbox or RSS readers
3.  3rd position within page 1 of Google’s News tab results (at the time of this screenshot it was 1/10 – 4 days after the syndication and still sticking)
4.  Proof of page 1 Google results within News tab (not sure why the right side of the screenshot contains shading but it must have something to do with capturing while also scrolling but will serve to validate the authenticity of the screenshot)
Below are some other search engine result examples of variations on the music marketing optimized concept.  It is important to understand that when you optimize a press release properly you should always try to include relevant keywords and include those towards the front of the title.  Google does place more emphasis on words at the beginning of titles rather than towards the end regarding their rankings and results.
You should also include title keywords that you are trying to rank for within the summary and body of the press release.  This serves to fortify the strength and importance of those keywords and the relevancy of the press release.  but just remember, you always want to write for people first, then search engines 2nd.  You do not want to over optimize you content.  It should be reader friendly for people while including relevant keywords for the search engine algorithms.
Here are results for “indie music marketing“:
1.  “indie music marketing” – competitive and lucrative search term
2.  Google’s News tab – The ‘News’ tab offers the option for people to “Create Alerts” for search terms so when news shows up, it is delivered to their email inbox or RSS readers
3.  1st position within page 1 of Google’s News tab results (at the time of this screenshot it was 1/10 – 4 days after the syndication and still sticking)
4.  Proof of page 1 Google results within News tab (again, not sure why the right side of the screenshot contains shading but it must have something to do with capturing while also scrolling but will serve to validate the authenticity of the screenshot)
Our last example is for “music industry marketing“:
1.  “music industry marketing” – competitive and lucrative search term
As you can see, these music industry search engine marketing results are quiet impressive and indeed powerful and effective.  mus5.co will also keep track of some relatively long term music marketing ranking results for this press release as well.  It would be interesting to know about how long these results will stick without any other effort other than letting other real people within the music industry socially send some signals to them.
Come back in a couple weeks to read about these kind of music marketing results tracking.  To buy a music industry marketing press release go to this page.  There are only a limited quantity available and will only be available to those within the industry wishing to take their music marketing efforts to the next level.
