@catchperfectamericanpresidents I just saw this somehow and it’s hilarious because why tf was rahm emmanuel always there 😭
me: that fic where mike huckabee becomes president and news anchors get sent to internment camps while anderson cooper is executed on live television is probably the craziest I’ll ever encounter
hamilton fandom: you are like little baby,
#omgggg i still wanna talk about this with someone#it was such a big thing at one point and remembering it just feels like the twilight zone bc all the fandom peeps who were teens back then#are like in their 30s now and no one wants to mention what they were obsessed with in high school lmao#but shipping pundits truly was such a popular thing#and it feels rly sad when you think about the inevitability of time cause like… that group of fangirls was doing#exactly the same thing as we’re all doing for our various fandoms now#and they were young and it was the popular thing to talk about#and now we’re referencing it like its an ancient mystery#I just…. time man. sometimes it gets me#but no rly why was rahm emmanuel always there#desperately need some one to nerd out over this with#Anderson cooper#prt#fake news fandom#the pundits round table

I always loved how loki clocked this pretty much immediately when he found out he’d been lied to. “just another stolen relic, locked up here until you might have use of me”. We don’t talk about that part enough.
It’s also a huge part of why I see Loki’s transition from the end of Thor 1 to Avengers as so satisfying and liberating, even if it was a shit situation for him. Like yeah sure the Thanos part sucked. But for the first time in his entire life, he’s separated himself from Asgard. It’s a major step in his journey of standing on his own.
Loki kind of exists in the worst place of privilege. He lives in a nice house sure, but he has no real position of authority no one likes or listen to him, he doesn't really fit in and he can't just leave. He can't just set off on his own and like get his Master degree. He pretty much stuck on Asgard where he has no choice but to obey Societal expectations even if he doesn't believe in them.
All that and probably the worst part: he probably doesn't understand what he's been put through either.
Finding out about abuse as a victim is absolutely insane and mind-blowing, especially in cases like this where it's your own family the ones who are mistreating you because it's all you've ever known and you're accustomed to blaming yourself for things they do. So if you are lucky enough to attend therapy and/or therapy groups that helps a great deal but something tells me those didn't exist on Asgard so... how could Loki ever figure out that the way his family was treating him wasn't right?
Sure, finding out they had been lying to him is an easy one: they knew the truth, they kept it from him, that's clearly wrong. But here comes the "I wanted to protect you from the truth" (but why is the truth a bad thing?) and "he kept you from the truth so that you wouldn't feel different" (but why is being different bad?) and the indoctrination of "the Jotuns are monsters" and "the Asgardians are the superior beings", and yeah lying is bad but.... being a Jotun is worse? (I'm saying he'd think that not that they are)
And like you say, he lives in a palace and he is privileged but not really, plus he doesn't really have anyone to talk to. Frigga is an enabler and is not going to take him seriously, all she's going to focus on is keeping the family together by all means necessary, Odin is completely unavailable emotionally and poor Thor has his own issues to deal with and he's not ready at all to accept that his father is anything but perfect.
All this to say that yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you 😉

Anderson Cooper once said he wished he had a missing limb or a giant scar on his face or something like that impossible to ignore so people would have to understand and acknowledge the severity of his mental pain and that really stuck with me. Like yea bro, true.
I wish depression were an emergency. I wish someone could take one look at how sick I am and go “oh my god, we need to get you to a hospital!” and then when we get there I get rushed into surgery and the surgeons say “it’s a good thing you brought her here when you did, this is a seriously advanced case” and then they put me under and spend the next ten hours pulling metres of long, sticky black strands of gunk out of my body, throwing it immediately into an incinerator so that it can’t infect anyone else. And then they could stitch me back up and I could rest a few days, and when I leave the hospital everyone can see how much better I am and they congratulate me saying “well done, you’ve been so brave, I’m so glad you’re ok. I love you.”

I’m still in love with how everyone always had wild theories about Loki’s mom being a hybrid or secretly an asgardian/vanir/human or some well known character we’ve seen before or some intergalactic deity or spy or an evil child sacrificer etc etc, but in reality she’s just a regular jotun who loved her son. It’s just so 🥺🥹. The simplicity of it makes their story so much more tragic.
so, this is the first time I see this art uncropped and let me tell you I kinda teared up when I saw her cape, even though Loki doesn't know about it, his signature green cape is also a homage to his biological mother, she's always with him, even when he's not aware of it 🤧

Definitely a mistake complaining about this on tumblr of all places, but does anyone else get annoyed with every single minute little social media interaction having to be a morality contest?
Someone will comment “he’s funny” on a 2 second celebrity meme and someone else will inevitably reply “he’s a raging zionist and he called a woman a bitch in 2008, he should be publicly hanged actually”.
Like… don’t yall get tired of living like this? I’m exhausted just looking at you.
#adding a disclaimer so I don’t get jumped that I’m not saying we should never hold famous ppl accountable#but like… does it have to be on every interaction on every post in every conversation even when it’s harmless and irrelevant#yes yes we get it Twitter user Abby247 you’re more woke than the rest of us#and we’re shirking our moral responsibility or whatever by not only ever talking about emotionally exhausting political stuff constantly#but can we not just have a conversation oh my GOD#I just think it’s ok to enjoy aspects of a person even if other aspects of them are massively problematic#especially in a time where propaganda and societal pressure make it easy for people to see an issue from an angle that isn’t accurate#and unconsciously end up on the wrong side of it with an opinion that isn’t necessarily reflective of their core#apparently it’s a radical statement to say humans are complicated beings that can never be examined in a black and white way#and that it’s a good thing to be able to differentiate the various parts of them and react accordingly#also there’s like a 90% chance if someone’s leaving a comment on some random celeb post#they likely don’t gaf about the celeb beyond what they’re seeing in front of the#they’re just having a nice shallow scrolling experience#and that’s not a bad thing either#and for you to take it upon yourself to give them a lecture about what they should and shouldn’t feel is uhhh..#self righteous af#idk#not fandom

I actually don’t mind sylki stuff, but if you draw sylvie with black nails and not loki, that’s a red flag.
#like…. it becomes VERY clear that you stan her and he’s just an accessory#and that’s valid!#but for me personally it’s also unbearably annoying#also when you make her explicitly queer-looking or badass looking or goth looking#and then make loki look like a basic dude or a pathetic wimp or a normie in a sweater vest#like… either let both of them shine and be true to the Loki template or gtfo of my face#anti sylki#it’s actually not but I don’t wanna get jumped 😭#mcu Loki#Loki series

Extremely unpopular opinion, but I think “the sun will shine on us again” was a really lame final-ish quote 😭. It was just so.. cheesy and overly flowery lol. I’m not sure what I wish he’d said instead, but I’ve always hated that line.
#even the way Tom delivered it was#*lord forgive me for saying this*#over-acted and melodramatic in a cringey way#idk maybe it’s just a peeve of mine#but I had to get it off my chest#bc fans use that in literally every single thing and it’s like#uuuggh stop#‘you will never be a god’ was so much cooler#mcu Loki#infinity war

Yeeees!! And his dynamic with Loki was so cute! Especially when they finally succeed at the loom thing 😭 he fits so perfectly into the TVA fam, idk why no one ever includes him in fanworks.
Spoiler warning for Loki season 2‼️
☆| soo...I watched Loki for Loki ofc, came out loving this mf, the one sided romance between him and Miss Minutes was so unnecessary I'm afraid, he seemed so uncomfortable and honestly me too Victor💔. Anyways, Victor Timely deserves more love

do not forget the patron saint of these weeks that we celebrate ourselves proudly and openly in the streets

her name was Marsha P Johnson, and we have her to thank for so much.
remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.
thank you, Marsha. we remember you.

Although commentators used their views of slavery and slaves to describe the caning, a gendered reading of the event was also evident. Historians like John Hope Franklin have long reminded us that extralegal violence and militant notions of manliness were some of the defining characteristics of southern slave society. Premodern notions of male honor encompassed a common resort to physical force. Southern defenders of Brooks praised his "manly spirit" and "manliness." On the other hand, they castigated Sumner for his "unmanly submission," his failure to defend his "virility" and for acting like a woman. The Charleston Mercury argued that Sumner's name would become a "perfect synonym for cowardice and baseness." According to the Richmond Enquirer, "wretches" like Sumner, "runaway negroes and masculine women" comprised the abolitionist movement. Southern proslavery writers had long lampooned abolitionists as hoydenish, "unsexed" women, uppity "negroes" and effeminate, intellectual white men given to "sickly sentimentality"- all traitors to their supposedly natural racial and gender traits. Sumner's alleged failure to defend himself conformed to this caricature and made his behavior also seem slavish.
-- Manisha Sinha, The Caning of Charles Sumner: Slavery Race, And Ideology in the Age of The Civil War
#excellent point about how it’s never just one#it’s always all the various bigotries working together to form the system#racism and misogyny and homophobia and ableism all go hand in hand always
