(Part 1? lol)This got more ridiculous than I intended but here we are, a little rujinu aquarium date shenanigan inspired by @galaxyspeaking ‘s great aquarium date concept! I have a part 2 sketched out that’s more romantic and sappy but we’ll see if and when I get to it 🐠

I love when authors slide up to the reader the way I try to approach my donkey with a syringe of tapeworm treatment, apologetic but firm, holding some maths out in plain sight, fingers spread wide, to show they’re not hiding anything, no tricks, no sudden moves, cooing gentle reassurances, all the while expecting the reader's ears to flatten in alarm, nostrils flaring in suspicion, hooves scraping the ground, ready to bolt at the faintest whiff of differential equation...

one thing I adore about Boss Kuno's work is that he makes the setting such an essential part of his stories and treats it like a character of its own. Phuket in I Told Sunset About You, the durian farm in Paradise of Thorns, Bangkok in Gelboys. the setting always feels so alive and so vivid and has a huge personality

loser bisexual characters directed by boss kuno you’re so dear to me

adding that her affection comes out in wanting to care for him, being sad she couldn’t bandage his face, worrying he isn’t sleeping well, making sure he is resting, thinking he looks tired, noticing when he’s agitated or angry or acting strange. she doesn’t pick up on every nuance of behavior, sickness or problem with other people but she does with Jinshi because it’s a sign she cares
Maomao, literally everytime she's describing Jinshi: "the beautiful gorgeous man that could very well be the sole reason for this country's demise. He's so beautiful that war would reign itself and everyone would lose theeir absolute marbles. But not me. His beauty doesn't work on me"

I'm being investigated for digital crime right now 😭😭😭
I was on my work laptop at 3 am yesterday googling - sorry BINGing - this stunning trans model to send her Instagram link to the girls' group chat. So Bing thought I was curious about transitioning and started showing me hormonal therapy ads. I accidentally clicked on one of them and left the tab open. Then I took a Winnie The Pooh mental health test, googled "what caste is XYZ surname" and so on. Won't elaborate. An hour later sirens started going off on the laptop, security engineers started calling me and I got this email that said in red letters that I introduced malware on my system and pose a threat to XYZ's (my company) sensitive information because I went to some "soft hormone xxx portal" or something?? website. This email has my entire organization cc'ed. Now I'm being investigated by an Indian security team that saw my browser history and pulled off the most professional straight face. Anyway, depending on my manager's mood I might either be scolded or fired in the morning <33

morally unbound people lack warmth, and morally bound people are boring because they lack the charm of shrewdness. people forget that you can finesse the fine line between these two anatomies, where you can have both the wit to think evil and also the tenderness to never act on it. you can be as fun as you are pure. you transcend the toxic vs boring dichotomy

having a non-STEM boyfriend is literally so toxic, they are so opposed to experimentation 😔 (what if he won't let me overdose on a novel longevity drug to suppress the mTOR pathway so I never turn 24 on a cellular level)

I watched The Banshees of Inisherin yesterday, and omg can I just say. it has such a fascinating approach to the concept of 'niceness' because it explicitly points out the mistake of conflating it with blandness. Colm is terrified of death and the prospect he will leave behind nothing of value, and grows to view niceness as dull and unmemorable when his previous friendliness was the very thing that drew people to him to begin with. He perceives suffering as the key to finding meaning for his life and in doing so destroys innocents needlessly, because to him, it is easier to dismiss the simple joys of the people around him as the product of stupidity rather than try to find potential fulfilment in them himself.

the romanticization and simultaneous stigmatization of mental illness has you, a clown in the circus of the world, at once willingly performing as a quirky, troubled, traumatized person to appear interesting, while also writhing in pain in your room quietly because this brand of illness has been normalized by your edgy friends and so you think no one would care just enough to sincerely help you. yet you come out the next morning and downplay it in humor to appease the edgy crowd with your deliberate quirkiness. it is a cage you yourself helped make that you will now never be free of, clowns.
P.S. if your issues can be resolved in therapy alone you have the best issues. but you want to project a gravitas to them, so no one except Mark Fisher is ready for that sociopolitical conversation

post-rain it smelled like baby powder and mayflowers, a welcome change from the usual lack of sensorial cues accompanying the bland rain here. A large part of being homesick is missing monsoons back home, earthy and fragrant and unrestrained and replete with sensory delights, each of which I could nitpick and celebrate
