“No offense to Hamlet, but if my dad made me wings of feathers and wax I wouldn’t have died.” Dmitry frowned, looking back up once he realised the critical flaw in his logic. “Or maybe I would’ve. I don’t know my dad, he might suck enough to be worth throwing myself into the sea.”
@genoviastarters
“ i think you mean icarus, not hamlet, ” faye commented idly, unable to help herself from correcting him. “ he’s the one who was stupid enough to reach for the sun. wax melts. that’s how he ended up falling into the sea. but, besides the point — i don’t know my dad, either. join the club. but apparently he was a real asshole, so maybe i’m better off for it. ”

‘ okay, i think PICKLED PEAR is just a taste i did not acquire, ’ she says through a twisted face. ‘ thank you, though, for letting me try it. ’
“ if i have to suffer, so do you, ” faye jokes, a grin playing on her lips. “ but at least we can say we’ve tried it. we’re so brave. i think a pear soufflé is much more appetizing, don’t you? ”

❝ i fell in love with her courage, her sincerity, and her flaming self respect. and it's these things i'd believe in, even if the whole world indulged in wild suspicions that she wasn't all she should be.

dsappointments:
“i care about my friends and i just so happen to consider you to be one. i know, it’s as much of a surprise to me as it is to you.” the problem is that sam isn’t lying, he does consider faye a friend, just one he knows he can’t trust considering their history. if this was any other situation, he would have been more than glad to offer her some help with whatever her assignment was. but the uncertainty of him being her assignment was enough for him to act lukewarm towards her. “and here i thought you had enough talent to instantly memorize them, maybe you’re not as skilled as i thought you were.” this is accompanied with a genuine laugh, more than little frustrated that she isn’t giving anything away. “ah, well, i got tired of saving your ass all the time so i thought i’d finally settle down a bit with a more stable job. i’m, unfortunately, attached to the princess of brazil. figures they’d put me with one the more problematic children.” he sighs, rolling his neck as though the mere mention of adriana stressed him out. “right, and the black diamond ice cream? you’d think they’d find better ways to be wasteful.”
“ wow, i’m flattered. ” though her tone was deadpan, the smile lingered on her lips. if circumstances were different, perhaps they’d even trust each other. “ you’ll be happy to know i also think of you as a friend. you’re overjoyed, i know. ” she scoffed as he continued, rolling her eyes. “ i’m a decent musician, not a prodigy. and, excuse you, i can think of several times i’ve also saved your ass — it’s a two-way street here. oh, the younger one? yeah, i’ve heard quite the stories involving her. i feel almost bad for you, but at least you won’t be bored. ” she raised her eyebrows. would the wonders of the wealthy ever cease? “ you’re joking. well, then again, if diamond tea bags exist, then so would diamond ice cream. so, you have a plan for playing tour guide or should i just be ready for surprises? ”

“outdated? you do realize how bitter you sound, right?” as much as fionn may reject all of his regal responsibilities, he was still defensive of his unearned privilege. there was something that always seemed to compel the boy to prove just how important he was. “it’s really so sad that you could never get a prince to marry you isn’t it? but then again not everyone is cut out to be royal and i’m sure there are plenty of duchess and doctors out there for a pretty little rich girl like you,” he narrowed his eyes, smirking at her. “how on earth could you explain it to me? after all i’m a prince and at the end of the day all you’ll ever be is a commoner.”
“ commoner? see, now, that’s just unoriginal. i think you just don’t like having your ego stomped on. ” she took a sip of her drink. “ well, marrying a prince isn’t not really on my bucket list, so, no, you won’t find me crying over it. but it’s cute you think it’s that big a deal! ” her expression insouciant, she cocked her head at him as if talking to a child. it’s truly amazing how far his head was up his ass, but letting him rile her up would be giving him far too much credit than he deserved. “ oh, fionn. i don’t know how to break this to you, but not every girl dreams of being a princess. i’m quite fine where i am — at least i’m not an asshole. you’re doing a shit job of explaining it, by the way, so maybe you’re not so cut out for this princely thing, either. i mean, you just happened to be born into it. ”

╰ * ⁽ 𝐟𝐭. —— : faye. ╱ @mvsquerades ⁾
one person’s winter wonderland was another’s personal hell. that’s exactly how it felt for marcia to be in genovia. the frigid air is everything but inviting. she’s never been an advocate for cold weather, so much so that she can’t begin to wrap her head around why others are so excited. “ i fucking hate this weather. ” she mumbles into her mittens. she’s bundled up nicely by the fire, observing other royals gallivanting around like clueless children. “ i don’t imagine you’ve seen my husband anywhere around ? ” the princess murmurs into the metal straw sticking out of her wine glass. well, more like wine jug. there was someone on every corner urging the young woman to drink more. “ if you see him, let me know. i’ll need to run in the other direction as quickly as possible. ”
“ you won’t like london’s weather much better, then, ” faye remarked with amusement, comfortably lounging by the fire. true to her nature, she’d still kept a sharp eye out for anything useful or alarming, but this was the first time since she’d got here she’d found some semblance of relaxation. people seemed more inclined to get drunk on pear wine than start international crises, thank god. ( of course, it could be said the two were intertwined. ) “ no, can’t i say have. but if i do, i’ll make sure to hide you. maybe throwing a blanket over you will work. ” she gestured to one of the fluffy blankets lying on a chair with her free hand, the other wrapped around a warm glass of mulled wine. from the way marcia spoke, maybe she was better off with that broken engagement — but she’d never know for sure. “ why, trouble in paradise? ”

kieranmorozov:
“Usually I’m not a fan of surprises, but I can get with not having a plan.” Hell, every plan he thought he had for this trip had already been blown to smithereens. He didn’t know what to expect anymore.
Kieran quickly glanced over his shoulder through the window of the bar, hoping to see a familiar face, but when she wasn’t there he turned to the new woman instead and chose to follow. A trail of smoke followed him as they walked into the night. “You got a name? Or will that be a surprise, too?” he asked over the sound of his steps crunching the snow underfoot. “I don’t take it you’re actually from around here.”
“ neither am i, actually, but i’m trying something new. results may vary. ” maybe all the shit her friend’s been telling her about spontaneity and carpe diem was finally getting to her.
“ i think two surprises would be pushing it. ” she sent him a brief, wry smile. “ it’s faye. and no, i’m not — suppose it’s that obvious? ” stuffing her hands in her pockets, she shifted her gaze from him to in front of her, the stars twinkling above them. she’d become so accustomed to city nights where the luminescence of skyscrapers won over constellations, she’d almost forgotten what a clear, starlit sky looked like. “ i’m from london. quit my law firm job in an epiphany of wow, i really hate this shit, and that led me here. soul-searching, following my passion, call it what you like. ” the best lies were spun with threads of truth: she really did hate her old job. she glanced back at him. “ what about you? i take it you’re not from here, either. ”

‘ yes, ’ she matches the other’s smile, ‘ i must say though, i was surprised to see you here — i didn’t know you turned out to be a professional musician. ’ not that jodha keeps up with people all that much, but through the grapevine she had last been told by a friend of a friend of a friend that faye was somewhere working in china. ‘ what a small world that we’d both be here, of all places. ’ she twists her lips in thought, careful to give a well-practiced answer, ‘ it’s definitely colder, though i don’t think it’s a match for jolly ol’ england at it’s worst. and i’m familiar with a few of them, ’ she tilts head back and forth, ‘ some more than others. but that’s the beauty of things like this — i get to meet and become acquainted with all of them at once. ’
“ secret talent. ” she shoots jodha a ghost of a grin. “ i was part of my uni’s orchestra and i’ve kept it up ever since. it’s not like i’m leader or even principal second, though. ” good thing, too — the violin isn’t exactly the true reason for coming here. “ isn’t it? funny how things work out. ” she’d hoped jodha would drop actual names, but she’s not surprised with the vague answer. a queen must always be on her guard, and jodha has many reasons to keep her business to herself. hadn’t she always liked a challenge, anyway? “ well, you must feel more at ease than i do. i’ve never been around this much royalty before. it’s — interesting. it’s all networking, really, just with outrageously expensive champagne. i don’t think i’ve ever drank something that nice before in my life. ”
