EVOLUTION OF A MURAL
I just finished painting my first mural! And I thought it would be fun to go over how the design changed over the iterations.
The mural was a partnership between Kanbe's markets and The KC chapter of the Sunrise Movement. They both do some great stuff, so check them out if you're in KC!
The design work was about 50% me and 50% Olivia Barbosa, with both of us working on pretty much all parts of the mural at some point or another.

This was the very first draft. The wall space was 6 feet x 10 feet, with a pegboard in the middle of it. We were trying to use as few different colors as possible in order to simplify the design process. We wanted to have plenty of space for produce in the final design since that's Kanbe's main thing.

Trying out some new things.
Adding produce and people. We decided the sky was hard to read so we redid it with cloudier clouds.

Adding some more shading and final touches before sending it to Kanbe's for the first time.

Kanbe's wanted us to change some of the colors slightly to match their ADA compliant ones, and add more variety in the produce. (This is my favorite version.)

We changed the clouds because they looked polluted to some people, switched the colors around a bit to increase the amount of Kanbe's official colors, and called it done.

Finally, painting it took place over 3 days. On the first day, Olivia used a projector to help trace the shapes to be painted. On the second day about 20 wonderful volunteers helped block in the colors (not all at the same time), fold some zines, and just hang out and eat pizza. And on the third day, Olivia and I did some final changes, touching up edges and making things look extra shiny for the folks at Kanbe's.

yo its logan( the better one) when did you start getting into art like this and how would I start
I've pretty much been making art my whole life but I've only really been making full scale finished stuff like this since the beginning of sophomore year. If you want to get better at art, practicing drawing shapes in perspective is a good staring point. So learn one point, then two point perspective. Then draw pretty much anything you can see in perspective. After that, anatomy and color theory are fun to learn. But the #1 most important thing is to draw a bunch.
