Just found out people were being mean to HONE about thier art for Reqiuem And my heart hurt. The art was made FOR hs proper forever ago and predates any pesterquest sprites that people treat like they're fully canon

I miss pre-pesterquest when people were allowed to have headcanons that opposed canon like...you know. The point of it being a headcanon was that it was specific to you and your experiences and what you could take away from the source.

i could write litteral mountains about how bad steven universe fucked up from a story telling perspective but rn i can’t stop thinking about how mad i am that Rebecca used the show as a fuckin diary- all the characters are stand ins for parts of herself, every conflict is a scaled up tiny conflict that she doesn’t treat with respect in the show, and sp1nel is litterally based on a stuffed toy rabbit that she left in her yard as a kid- this is the second major peice of animation she’s inserted that rabbit into and spinel CAN’T fully read as a toy she feels guilty for abandoning when she also is a CHARACTER who gets left behind in a garden for years- and the GARDEN doesn’t even make sense and i jusT!!!!

okokok, so equius right? i LOVE him soso much,,, hes 100% my favorite troll ahah. as such, i really dont agree with all the hate ive seen him get. equius wholeheartedly did his best during the time he was alive, both as a friend and a general member of society- yes his upbringing was far less than ideal and yes that caused some really bad beliefs to be instilled in him early on, but he made an effort to break out of his bad patterns, specifically the ones regarding the hemospectrum. his moirallegiance with nepeta was genuine and healthy. the point of being moirails is to balance one another out as well as give and take from one another equally, its the ultimate friendship and equius does his part of that just as well as nepeta does; he certainly comes across as bossy over her, but i believe he did this to protect her (telling her to be on his team at the beginning of the troll sburb, telling her to hide from sober gamzee in the vents, etc.) but he was also a nice person to her, roleplaying with her, letting her indulge in her shipping charts, etc. equius was also NOT someone totally intolerant of those different from him. in fact, he was fairly sweet to them too - he was willing to listen to karkat's order of tracking gamzee down despite his own reluctance to confront him. he was willing to build tavros a new set of legs. he was also very polite to mspar during his pesterquest route, despite them not even being a troll! as for the aradiabot incident - i agree that was really weird and certainly not ok, but the trolls are a brutal race, and especially at such a young age, we've seen countless examples of really really bad things - LOTS of vriska's actions, eridan's desire to massacre land dwellers, etc. during aradiabot's first appearance (pages 2287 to 2293) equius does admit to installing a chip to make her feel romantic feelings for him, apologizes, and offers to remove it before aradia proceeds to (understandably!!!) beat the hell out of him. again, equius should not have done it at all but he was quickly able to take responsibility for it and try his absolute best to fix it, which takes a lot of self-awareness for a 13 year old. this was also before a lot more of his general character further developed by spending time with the other trolls on the meteor, so i like to believe that equius matured out of treating others that way like he did with how he treated the hemospectrum over time. id also like to note that of all the 12 original trolls, equius and karkat are the only two that, no matter the reasoning behind it, did not try to kill another troll, meaning that despite his initial high and mighty attitude, even when faced with a situation like sober gamzee, equius is incredibly merciful for a troll. he was also as gentle as possible when it came to pda, and generally didnt engage in it often because of his strength. even with the lightest of shoulder-taps, he still managed to bruise his lusus. overall, i believe that even if he was a bit strange at times and definitely did not make the best decisions all the time, equius was a generally good kid and most certainly doesnt deserve to be hated because he appreciates how strong horses are. :D

God you know what makes me like, really angry? People like, blaming Feferi or not liking Feferi because of Eridan. What she did to Eridan wasn't bad. She turned him down, and really, that's that. She didn't cause Eridan's actions, though sure, he did them because of her in a sense, she isn't to blame for them. She didn't use him, she was his friend, and she tried to help him as his Moirail, as so did he to her, but they just weren't super good for each other! They had other issues, and Eridan was highly influenced by the way Alternia's influence is pushed onto the troll race. It's not either of their faults entirely, and it certainly isn't Feferi's. Also, Eridan's actions on the asteroid were his own fault, though at the same time, he was in a state of Grimdark wasn't he? So that's not completely his fault too! He was engulfed in emotions and anger and especially jealousy of Feferi and Sollux, which is understandable yes, but the way he took the situation wasn't!! Good!!

I think a lot of the Gamzee racial coding confusion could come from the fact that ICP, as white hip hop/rap, already parrots elements of black culture irl. idk if you'd call it appropriation in a broad sense, or if it's just a weird overlap... I genuinely don't know enough about ICP or how genuine certain things might be, like say, their speech patterns... but I see why people might argue that Gamzee is coded as a white ICP fan, especially since Hussie is white, so like. there's a combination of some people thinking that Hussie might not have considered including that much "representation" at all, and some people thinking that if he did intend to code Gamzee as black, maybe he just did such a bad job that it *feels* like a white person borrowing "black traits" without really having the racial background to do the character right. or maybe Hussie did mean for Gamzee to poke fun at the whole white rapper or stereotypical white ICP fan thing, where the joke is "haha white people are cringe when they try to do stereotypically black people things" which is kind of what Dave and Bro already hit upon with their rap stuff (if John's white rapper comment about Bro in the early comic is anything to go by.)

but beyond all of this, if Gamzee offends black fans, I'm not gonna sit here and actually argue about that. that's kind of the end of the line... this fictional character doesn't mean enough for me to try and step up to a real person and convince them of how they should feel about what they see in Gamzee.

also also, in spite of what I said about Bro and Dave in canon, I've seen black fans headcanon the Strilondes as black before because they actually like those characters, and because Dave especially is actually well written and has a really resonant character arc. and that is entirely valid. screw canon information when it comes to that, take what you want from this story, especially if Hussie's mediocre attempts at diversity look like... well... Gamzee. everybody has no problem dunking on Hussie for all the other stupid shit he does, why not dunk on him for this too?

Like we get it Rebecca, you TOTALLY designed Spinel off of Betty Boop, not Bendy and the Ink machine *cough despite your first concept sketches of her coming out mere months after the first two chapters were released you hack cough* but you venting about your fans being tired of your bullshit by creating an entire abuse centric plot is really fucking awful? Because you ADMITTED that you made Spinel because YOU felt like your fans were not engaging as much- that's your fault. So like uh? Wanna explain THAT Rebecca???? So why would earth be special if she had an entire beautiful garden filled with love and life already? If you’re a diamond who didn’t agree with Pinks way of life and who tried actively to pull her away from her gentler more curious EMOTIONAL ways, why did you save her all this flora? You hated the way she acted and didn’t support it so why did you save it for her? You’re just gonna litterally throw her in a sensory deprivation chamber again for potential years at a time.

Hello! I agree the act wasnt EXACTLY premeditated bc he originally wanted to take her to work with Jack, but its still really fucked up and he fires and kills her without hesitation the moment she steps towards him?

And of course theres his relationships with Vr1sk4 ans F3f3r1 in general? In Vr1s's pe2t3rqu3st route she shows great d12tr3ss over 3r1d4n crossing her bounties repeatedly. And Er1dan attacks and kills f3f3r1 again without hesitation when it comes down to it at the end. After years of ignoring her boundaries too, and keeping fef3r1 in a one sided pale relationship for fear of him snapping and hurting others.

As someone who was in a real relationship with someone very similar I can tell you its an emotionally abusive situation to be in and seeing the parallels between Er1 and this guy really helps me step back and examine him more closely as I've gotten older

If I may quote an old post, this is a lot of my problem with the new “everyone is trans and gay” thing going on in HS^2, Pesterquest, and the fandom:

look, i know that people love their queer headcanons and that’s great and fun and whatever, but ”amab transfeminine asexual neville falls in love with bisexual polyamorous agender luna” doesn’t really do all that much for me.

straight people don’t get “straight cis man ron falls in love with straight cis woman hermione,” they get epics about fighting evil and fighting each other and drinking tea at hagrid’s.

What we seem to be getting with the queerness (Dave, I’m looking at you) is the idea that the character’s queer label and abuse victim status are the only things about them we could possibly be interested in, and that those are enough to support a character and a story, and that no character without those labels is worthwhile. Especially egregious when people suddenly like ships with John in and talk about how he isn’t “boring” anymore because Hussie approved of June Egbert, not even having done anything with the idea yet, and nothing else changed about John/June or his/her interactions. Dave and Karkat dither obnoxiously about their relationship for over a decade in ways which would get any het ship mocked out of the fandom, but because Dave has gaynst everyone thinks it’s brilliant - and before you bring up internalised homophobia, Karkat has none, has been very forward with romantic overtures before, and has no reason to put up with this.

This isn’t happening with Hiveswap, because WLW Joey has her dancing and her animals and her puzzle-solving and her kindness and her longing for acceptance and her difficulty with her family which isn’t reduced to “please feel sorry for me” as it ended up with Vriska and Dave. Nonbinary Charun and Cirava have less going for them so far because they’re minor characters, but their gender identities are just there and not hugely focused on next to their art and music and thieving supplies and backstories of loss. The HS team clearly can do better, so it’s very annoying when they don’t.

There certainly is a time and a place for stories focusing strongly on the selection or rejection of labels and the complications from being under those headings. Stories in which multiple universes are being levelled by monstrous god-beings probably isn’t that time. Priorities, please.

first thought; k4n4y4 is a failed sp4ce pl4yer bc she took every opportunity she could to distance herself from her 4spect. Especially as someone who was meant to he4l her 4spect.

K4n was an 4wful m01rail bc she uses her position as Vr1sk4a p4le partner to buddy up and get into a r3d relationship with her? And as we see in Vr1sk4s route, Vr12 is act1vly aware of this fact and it bothers her, stating that K4n actively shames her for being troubled and uses it as a tactic to get rid of Vr12ka2 trauma through that shaming, presenting it like its a reflection of her own skills in the qu4drentmate. 

K4n4ya is also always presented as the more competent one in the r0sem4rry relationship despite being the worlds biggest enabler. 

I fucking adore K4n4y4 but sometimes people need to recognize the flaws in the characters they love!
