Side Hustle: Reboot Your Business In 2020 (ep 01)

So, many of you will already know who I am. Some will have less of an idea, or no idea at all, who I am. Either way, bear with me with this article, please. This article is like a restart and significant declaration to the visitors, readers and subscribers of the website. 

  If you thought that managing a side hustle in 2019 was going to be easy, well just look back at the year so far. If you started your side hustle in 2019, congrats. If you didn’t, what’s keeping you? The start of the new year is always a good time to take stock, review progress and take a look at your plan for 2020 and beyond.

Reboot Your Business For 2020; Why Start Now?

To answer that question, I have to tell a little story, I guess. My online adventure started back in 2016. Well actually much earlier than that, but I only really got serious in 2016. I’ve been sooooo busy with all kinds of ventures online, as well as some offline too.

  So I took a long hard look at my business and made the harsh realisation that I was all over the place! To give you an idea, here’s the stuff that I’ve been doing….

Property Investments

Management Consultancy

Writing a book

Starting a new business

Starting a new membership site

Saving the world

That last one, I made up. Although I have felt a bit like a superhero, albeit a not so great superhero.

  The Moment of Truth

Well, I’m sitting at my desk last Friday night. Listing down my laundry list of To-Do’s and it struck me. How the heck am I supposed to find the time to do all these tasks, do them on time and do them to at least ‘good enough’ and still have a life? The answer is obvious of course. You can’t. Something has to give. Family, friends, businesses, health, sleep even! I looked at the list in front of me and decided something had to go.

  The Ah-Ha Moment

Looking at my list, there were so many things that needed to get done, across so many different projects. By project I mean anything that has to get done in a particular area, be it, family, business, a side hustle, social etc. I literally, just stared at that list and thought, ‘I’m wasting my life’ and worse I’m not happy doing it. Something had to happen and quick. I decided there are then I should take the advice that so many successful entrepreneurs recommend. Focus on just one thing – get good at that, then start the next. I had been spreading myself too thin, too many strategies, too much stuff of yesterday. I wasn’t moving forward because I was trying to push water uphill.

  The Next Step – Cull That List

I took that list and linked the tasks to every significant goal, project or business I’m in the middle of working in. Now was the time to get mean and nasty with that list. 

Now I had tasks linked to projects, I was able to see where I was spending my time. Not only that but I could tell where I was being inefficient with my time.

Next I took a long hard look at each of those projects, which ones could I immediately stop that was either not serving me, anyone else, or was of no value whatsoever.

I cleared out a third of my list, some of that was online strategies I had started that just simply distracted from my core businesses. I decided to add new tasks.

Archive all project materials that were distractions and would not be used for the foreseeable future.

Unsubscribe from all tools, apps, programs that were related to these projects.

Unsubscribe from every mailing list that was related to these projects.

Prioritise each archived project in an order in which I might, someday, restart.

That was it, To-Do culled, distractions reduced, not minimised (Rome wasn’t built in a day). But I already began to feel more in control and ready to move forward.

Side Hustle 2020 – Back To The Future

So what does that mean for mybiztips in 2020 and beyond? Is it the end? Am I never going to write another line?

No, mybiztips is here to stay. The difference is I am going to be more focussed on building an online passive or near passive income stream. Starting here and now.

What does that mean for you? Well I am hoping that you’ll stay with me on this journey, I’m hoping some of you will get inspired and start to take some action of your own and maybe even follow my approach and strategy over the coming weeks, months and years.

I’m going to share my journey with you, the good and the not so good. I’ll let you know what I’m doing, why I’m doing it, where I learned the information. What’s going great and what mistakes I’ve made. I hope you’re able to learn from my mistakes and avoid repeating them.

I’m committing myself to taking consistent action, I won’t stop until I am good at this one thing. Then and only then, will I move on to the next.

Side Hustle in 2020. There’s a lot of ‘em and I’ve had my fair share of experimentation on the way. I finally realised what entrepreneurs the world over already know, and keep telling us. Focus on one good business first, commit to it, get good at it. Then when it’s established, start another venture.

Now that I’ve got rid of a lot of distractions, I can start to re-plan my online business. That’s going to be my focus for the next few weeks, I won’t write long articles, but I will give you updates on social media, as well as some short videos from time to time.
