I swear Elriels always pick the weirdest hills to die on. Now they're pissed off because the books don't acknowledge that Elain killed the King of Hybern, but their argument would favor Elucien if nothing else since Lucien and Rhysand are canonically the only characters to credit Elain with the kill. Not Azriel. Her strength was appreciated by her mate. 🤷‍♀️

If you ask me it was a joint effort between Elain and Nesta, with Elain playing a pivotal role that Lucien recognized and acknowledged.

"Elain sucked in a soft breath that whispered over his skin. His shadows skittered back at the sound. They'd always been prone to vanish when she was around."

"Her breath curled in front of her mouth, and one of his shadows darted out to dance with it before twirling back to him. Like it heard some silent music."

This tells me EVERYTHING I need to know. The same action, but two completely different reactions from Az's shadows, who "kept him company, as they always had, as they always would."

All quotes were taken from Azriel's BC.

SJM was being very obvious when she wrote those lines.

She made sure that we know Az's shadows are important to him, that he considers them his eternal buddies, and then we are shown how his shadows reacted by distancing themselves from Elain, in contrast with how they danced and sang around Gwyn and were noted by Az himself to be curious about her.

Az's interaction with Elain was called "a mistake" while being with Gwyn made something restless in him settle and calm down his shadows. We were given a little sprinkle of foreshadowing for their mating bond with the beautiful singing that followed him and which his shadows sang back in answer.

Finally, Az ended his POV with something sparking in his chest at the thought of Gwyn's joy and smiling over it, comparing the image of her teal eyes lighting to a thing of secret, lovely beauty.

Oh absolutely! I hope my post didn't come across as saying Eluciens feel or are entitled to getting their book first because they've been waiting longer, I was trying to convey that I understood some of their frustration. In the end, the next book will be whatever book that SJM decides will carry the ongoing plot best. ACOTAR is a big fandom so even within ships on "the same side" there are bound to be disagreements here and there, but as long as we keep it civil these discussions can offer new perspectives ^^

As a predominantly Gwynriel shipper, whether the next book is Gwynriel or Elucien will not diminish my happiness once the announcement finally drops. Narratively, I can see arguments for either being the next book. And it is true that Eluciens have been waiting for a longer time than Gwynriels, ever since ACOMAF. I know I don't speak for all Gwynriels, but I, at least, will be excited for the next book regardless of which of the two couples it features.

If it's Gwynriel? YAS! I need more of their banter, just that tiny snippet in the BC has been sustaining me for four (!!) years. Also I need more Gwyn in my life (we all do honestly). Mark my words, there'll probably be some kind of bet between them and they will keep one-upping each other because they are both competitive as hell and just refuse to lose.

If it's Elucien? YAS! I know I don't talk as much about them but the main thing I'm excited for in their book is to at last get out of the Night Court and explore the other parts of Prythian. I think there'll be a lot of traveling in Elucien's book and I'm so ready for it. Also, I need to see Lucien pushing Elain's buttons. He will be the one to make her lose her calm, to make her claws come out (and rake them down his back? 👀 Smut time?)

The irony of this post 😭

So Morrigan who is Feyre's best friend and whom she said she felt a sister bond with can be a candidate for Nys's favorite aunt, but Gwyn who is Nesta's best friend and whom she said she felt a sister bond with cannot?

Tell me you didn't read ACOSF without telling me you didn't read ACOSF 😂

P.s. Why are they even being possessive over Nyx's "favorite aunt" lmao.

FOR REAL THOUGH!!!

It's like they want to argue that Gwyn is an unimportant side character and they can't even remember her name but then they start raving about how her appearance in the BC is foreshadowing that she's the evil villain an Elriel's story like what 🤡 Are they saying saying that an Elriel story will have so little impact that not even their villain will be a memorable character???

Also isn't it so sad for them that even in a hypothetical Elriel story they will still have to read about Gwyn (the "evil lightsinger who is seducing Azriel") and Lucien (the "evil mate whom Elain will break her bond with"), two characters most of them despise with a burning passion 😂

I honestly don't think they'll have fun reading an Elriel book written by SJM at all, they just want a story written by their imagination.

The fact is, they cannot answer why Gwyn is in the bonus chapter at all without bending over backwards, and that’s all I need to know.

Instead of the very obvious answer (she’ll be Azriel’s future Li), they have to come up with contradicting theories to gaslight themselves because when they think about it, the math isn’t mathing for them.

First, they say Gwy’s supposedly there because of her lightsinger powers and that we’ll be exploring those powers in the next book. Ok, so then that makes her an important character in an E/riel book. But at the same time, they tell you that she’s an unimportant side character and we won’t see her again because she’s just Nesta’s friend. Which is it???

Then at the same time they tell you she’ll be luring people for Koschei and/or Merrill; on the other hand they tell she’s such a perfect character and that she has nothing else to contribute to the story. But I thought she was a lightsinger and her powers were gonna be explored??? Which is it?!?

I’m getting whiplash already.

Maybe, just maybe, the simplest explaination is the correct one: she’s there because that’s the direction SJM is taking for Azriel’s love interest.

AZRIEL WEEK DAY 3: BELONGING @azrielappreciationweek

We know that this is a very significant topic for Azriel, as he has always wanted to find his own place. I think it's really interesting how in his POV we can see how fate plays with him, and how his shadows act as a guide.

@azrielappreciationweek Day Two — Scarred

Azriel teaching his daughter the secret of his snowball fight winning technique! Azriel as a father will be something so healing to the wounds and scars within him, being able to raise his children in a way that is full of love and tenderness—something that he was unfortunately not able to experience for a very long time. I am also a sucker for Azriel being a girl dad; he loves his girls!

I think that there is something so inherently beautiful about Azriel being dealt such unfortunate cards throughout his life and still finding the courage to be good and I believe that those same admirable traits will continue on into his future with his family, both found and made.

Both Azriel and this song are incredibly meaningful to me, and I am overjoyed to be able to put them together into the same post. Eagerly counting down the days until his book is announced.
