Y’all wanna know why I love the lord of the rings so much?
Because the female characters in a series of books written by a catholic white man raised in Britain who fought in WWI are handled with more respect than fucking Princess Leia in Star Wars, written in the 70s. Tolkien grew up with a burning dedication to the importance of the arts, lived through an awful war that took two of his best friends, was risen in an era where women couldn’t have jobs, couldn’t have educations and he wrote about the beauty of love between men and the power of a woman with a sword, and you fantasy lovers wanna cum over Star Wars because of the light sabers and the Chewbaccas and Leia’s goddamned metal bikini when Eowyn exists? Y’all still wanna stan movies written by disgusting little men from a more modern age who can’t conceptualize a woman past a pair of boobs and a forced romance? Who told the actress she was too fat for the character and contributed to the consequent drug problem she started to lose weight and please him and the eye of the male audience? When Tolkien existed? Disgusting
#yes i just watched tolkien and i cried#tolkien#lotr#the lord of the rings#the hobbit#star wars#princess leia

The original vsco girl
Yall really wanna drag innocent teenaged girls for wearing scrunchies and drinking pumpkin spice lattes and partaking in other harmless trends for being “basic” when the real basic bitches are these white bread ass middle aged straight caucasian men that video games and tv shows and movies are giving us as characters who either are single and have a troubled past and have fucked So Many hot women or have a wife and one (1) child, either or both of whom are endangered or killed off to further his story like uhhhhu give me an woman

Make Some Pocket Extenders for Your Pants
So I don’t know about you, but I’m often frustrated by the ridiculous smallness of girls’ pockets. At a bare minimum, I need to be able to shove my cellphone in there - come on, pants companies! So what I started doing was making myself pocket extenders. I’ve done this several times, for pants and shorts. It’s great.
I just got this pair of jeans, so I thought I’d show you how to do it. I kind of feel like it just hasn’t occurred to some of you that this is an option, so maybe now it will. All you need is your pants, some fabric (I just took a random piece from a scrap bin), a needle, and some thread (thread doesn’t even need to match the fabric since literally no one will see it).

See? Ridiculous. Like, half a cellphone, or only 2.5″. Useless.

So turn those inside out to expose the pockets.

Figure out how big you want your pockets to actually be. I kinda go by whatever looks like might be right. I didn’t really measure them. Fold the fabric in half, so you have a pocket, and then fold it in half again so you can have two equal ones.

Try to get the edges to line up enough, pin it in place, then sew up the sides! Are your stitches crazy uneven and wonky looking? Doesn’t matter; nobody’s going to see it. These are in the inside of your pants. The only thing that matters is that it holds up. So I double-did the corners, since those tend to get the most stress.

Cut open the bottom of the existing pockets.

Pin it in place, then sew around, joining the new pocket to the old pocket. I did this by keeping my hand on the inside, so I wouldn’t accidentally sew through the other side. Again, I reinforced the corners, and didn’t worry about what it actually looks like. Then I turned it in side out to make sure the inside was all joined properly.

Yay all done! And the pockets are so much bigger now!

Whaaaat I can fit my entire phone and entire hand and probably something else now, are girls’ pockets even allowed to do that?! Heck yeah they are.

This is such an interesting dissection of a very common trope in writing female characters that I never really thought about before, but it’s so prevalent and so obvious and so fucking disgusting.

also I learned about this project called “queering the map.” the idea is that in the past gay neighborhoods and gay spaces were very clearly defined bc it just wasn’t safe to be yourself anywhere else. as lgbt+ people become more visible and accepted many feel that we are losing our connection to those spaces
so every dot on this map is basically someone’s queer experience: coming out, meeting their future wife, seeing another gay man in public for the first time, anything you can think of that truly left a mark on them
it started in Montreal and is primarily English-language with most pins dropped in the US, Canada, and Europe, but there are people all over the world who’ve shared their experiences. it’s great to look at places near you but it’s also great to see that even people in places you thought were the middle of nowhere are happy with themselves and finding community and living their lives

This is it guys, I’ve read the series twice and I can say with absolute certainty, this is my favorite quote. Chapter 1, paragraph 1, book 1. It doesn’t get better than this.
