My Favorite Season
What is my favorite season of the year? Harvest time! Let me start by going over the seasons. Meteorologically the change of seasons occurs on the first of December, March, June and September. By an astronomical calendar the change of seasons are on the equinoxes and solstices. According to the Celtic calendar winter begins on October 31st, spring on February 2nd and summer on May 1st. Midsummer Ritual or Magick: Can It Be Done Without Fire?
The Midsummer sunrise. The summer solstice also known as Litha or Midsummer is the time when the sun is at the highest point that it will be for the year. It embraces the longest day and shortest night of the year. The summer solstice will be on Friday June 20, 2025 at 10:41 pm Eastern time. The moon will be a waning crescent at that time. One of the activities in which you can engage on…

My Soul
What is the oldest thing I am wearing today? A soul beyond the veil in the Otherworld. This would be a great topic for Samhain, a sabbat that many people know as Halloween. It is a time when the veil to the Otherworld has grown thin, and those beyond the veil are more easily accessible than other times of the year. Many Wiccans, Witches, Pagans and those who honor the Goddess and/or the God…

My Two Favorite Holidays
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite? Maypole. A skeleton taking a ritual bath. What an auspicious time for this writing prompt. What are my favorite holidays? The word “holiday” means holy day, and I treat certain days as holy sometimes with reverence and sometimes with joy. I have two favorite holidays: Beltane and Samhain. Beltane, otherwise known as May Day is tomorrow,…

Beltane and Ogham
A Maypole. Beltane is a joyous time of warmth, longer days and growth. Where I live there will be nearly 14 hours of daylight on May 1. I wonder how many hours of daylight you will have? It depends on your latitude. Most of us cebrate Beltane on May 1, but the Celts start the celebration on the evening of April 30th and continue through May 1st. This year the moon will be a waxing crescent on…

My Favorite Type of Weather
What is your favorite type of weather? I like thunderstorms! I’m not fond of the kind that produce high wind warnings and tornadoes. I enjoy a simple thunderstorm. A thunderstorm puts out a lot of energy, and you can harness the power of the storm for magick. One thing I like to do is to go out before the storm comes, put out a heavy ceramic dish away from buildings and trees and catch some…

Ostara, Eostre and Working With Deities
Image of Eostre. Ahh… Spring and Ostara! Depending on your point of view the spring equinox is the first day of spring. There are other days to consider as the first day of spring, and you can decide for yourself! The Celts acknowledge Imbolc, February 1-2 to be the first day of spring. Many meteorologists use March 1 as the first day of spring. The vernal equinox will occur on March 20, 2025 at…

Love Magick and Valentine’s Day
The heart as symbol for Valentin’s Day. I remember as a child pulling petals off a flower one at a time saying, “He loves me, he loves me not . . .” Maybe you have too. This is a simple divination technique about love. For many of us thoughts about love surface with the approach of Valentine’s Day.A Little Unsavory HistoryValentine’s Day evolved from the Roman festival called Lupercalia. At…

A Good Question for Valentine’s Day
What’s your favorite candy? What is my favorite candy? Dark chocolate and sweet tarts are my favorite candies. When a good dark chocolate high in cocoa is consumed in moderation it can have good effects on the body. For example it is a good source of antioxidants, may lower the risk of heart disease and much more. I choose to have a couple squares of dark chocolate with 70% cocoa or higher.

I Enjoy Arts and Crafts In My Leisure Time
What do you enjoy doing most in your leisure time? I enjoy creating arts and crafts like painting, ceramics, and other crafts. Crafts usually revolve around my spirituality. This is a besom (broom) which I made. I used raffia and bells decorative items. When I sweep energies with it, I hear the bells.

Imbolc: A Time for Beginnings
The lambing season. We recently honored the Samhain and Yule holidays. But what about upcoming Imbolc? It does not get as quite as much attention as some of the other holidays. But beginnings are honored and practiced at this time which make it a very important observance. Imbolc means “in the belly” and is the lambing season. It is usually celebrated on February 2, but in the Celtic world it is…

The Sacred Gift of Yule
Return of the Midwinter sun. Yes, Yule is traditionally a time for gift giving, celebrating and feasting, and why not! The greatest gift is the return of the midwinter sun and longer days. This year the solstice will be on December 21st at 4:21 am EST. This is the time when the sun will reach the Tropic of Capricorn. This would be a good morning to go out and watch the sunrise. Hopefully, the…
